CC, they let me wear my own clothes, never did give me a gown, so it was a good start.

Radioactive dye, wait. Pictures, hook me up. Wait. The doc came in with a couple of techs, checks my heart and lungs, says he can still hear some "squeaks" in my lungs but he figures I'm OK to go. Turn on the treadmill. Doc and I chat about family genetics while I walk. He figures it will take "about 5 minutes" to get my heart rate up to 140. A couple of minutes later, they turn it up, I walk faster, talk to doc about my brother who has already had two heart attacks, my 34 year old cousin who died of a heart attack, my father's genetic legacy. Doc decides that I "have way too much air" and turns the machine up. I step it up a little and we talk about horses and farming. Heart rate 128. LOL He turns it up. Finally, 9 minutes and 45 seconds into it my heart rate hits 140 and he smiles and says "you don't just sit around much, do you?". Nope. They injected more dye, I ran two more minutes and the doc said he wanted to part on good terms so I could stop. Fastest heart rate 152. He asked if I was OK and I told him I had a 4 year old grandson, they sure weren't going to be able to kill me.

Doc smiled, said everything looked pretty good from the test but the pictures would go to the cardiologist. I have a follow up appointment Tuesday at 4:30.

And my knees are killing me! Hey, at least it makes my chest feel better. Soooooo, Elery and I came home and cleaned the house, shampooed the carpet and mopped the kitchen, so Sherry and Peppi can visit on Saturday. It was either that or buy enough wine to make sure they didn't notice!

Thanks for all the good thoughts, we'll see what happens on Tuesday, I guess. Absolutely not even a hint about the "pictures", but they didn't rush me anywhere for anything and I figure if I was going to drop right over they probably wouldn't have let me run for 10 minutes!

magothyrivergirl, definitely change the way your DH eats. Dad didn't, he was a very bad example, didn't do a darned thing he was told. I was thinking of him, and Chase, and RiverRat this morning .....

Well, Annie, if the time on the treadmill and the doc's comments are any indication, I'd say you are gonna be just fine.

Oh, and if I were visiting I would have preferred the wine over clean carpet and floor! LOL

Have a good visit with Peppi and Sherry, and we'll all wait until Tuesday to get the good news!

Annie, At this point no news is good news IMO! Don't forget that you have your mom's genetics too, not just your dad's. (I don't know if that helps, but I'm just pointing out there are two sides to the equation.) I hear you about your knees, and thought about you when I got on my own treadmill this morning. My knees are giving me fits too these days. If it's not one thang, it's another....

What state are you in? All zone 8's are not created equal. I am going to say that overwatering is one of your problems. The tomato plant looks like "toast" to me and I would recommend starting over. The lettuce looks fine and the pepper should be on life support. Here in Western Oregon Zone Eight we are having unseasonably warm and dry weather. But it is still too early to put out unprotected tomato plants. Those nights when it was "37ish" it might have been colder in your garden and the tomatoes don't like a chill and will react as in your photo. (FYI: if you put your zone and location in your profile, it will appear on all your posts and give everyone a better chance to help)

Facebook is a wonderfully addicting place to hang out! It's a "social networking" site, which means that you create a network with all of your friends/relatives and as you (and they) post little updates and pictures, everyone in your network see them too. It's a fun way to keep in touch with people, especially if they live far away. I play Scrabble on Facebook with a lady from the Rose Forum. I love it! I also use transorb roundup. If I spray it and a few minutes later it starts to mist or rain, it still takes effect. Yes, it is a week or so before you notice any difference in the plants but it is very very effective. Someone said that the stuff that is in the local Cdn Tire and other hardware stores is a different kind...almost watered down...and you have to have no moisture for up to a week for it to take effect. Here the grass is definitely starting to grow. Today I want to mix up a batch of roundup and spray around the raspberries (they haven't leafed out yet and there are a few grass that I saw in there the other day). I only have to spray once with the transorb compared to the 3 times with the super concentrated stuff. It comes in a large jug and costs over $150 for the jug. When mixing it up in my backpack sprayer I put just over 1/2 a cup in a 4 litre milk jug of water. Two jugs of mixed roundup and I am ready to go. As soon as the roundup hits the soil it becomes inactive. What it does is make the plant grow so fast that it bursts its seams...therefore dying. Anyways, here on the 10 acres I have no quams about using it and absolutely would recommend Transorb. BTW, you can freeze roundup so, there is no need to store it in the house....important fact for us FNers. Been there and done the landscape fabric thing. Not any more. I use flax shives and find that they are wonderful. Easy to place down, a little layer will do you, cheap (a semi load just dropped off here for free since they wanted to get rid of it), makes a nice smooth surface and looks good. I am really interested to find out whether slugs like or dislike the little sharp flax shives. No problem on any plants that were mulched with flax last year. So, all the rest of the beds will hopefully be mulched with flax this year. Brenda

The roots go a lot further down than an inch, and it doesn't look like that pop bottle has any drainage holes. I still suspect they are too wet most of the time, and probably are not getting enough sun as another poster noted. Lavender is originally from the Mediterranean region, along the coast. Yes, they manage to grow a lot of lavender in England - it is still a Mediterranean plant, however, that grows best in dry, chalky, poor soils. I think the Brits just tend to be better gardeners on average than the average 'merican, LOL! Plus they have lots of chalky coastline ... think the White Cliffs of Dover ... Lavender does NOT do well in soil that is moist all the time. If they are doing "better" since you started daily watering, I shudder to think how they were doing before, because those plants are not doing anything like "well", especially given that you started those plants way back in the spring. Here's a picture of a potted lavender that is doing well: Potted lavender advice Lavender needs 8 hours of sun a day, at least. Full sun in the garden is what they are talking about there. I don't think your plants are getting near that on your balcony. It will only be worse sitting near the window there in your kitchen (or where ever you plan to put them over winter). I understand that you are in an apartment and have VERY limited access to light and space for growing plants. Lavender is a very challenging plant (so is rosemary) for growing indoors. I've never had any luck growing either plant indoors myself. I'm not saying it can't be done; but it is a challenge. Your setup is not adequate to the task at this time. You're not getting nearly enough light; the soil mix in your pop bottles looks too heavy (lavender does better in a soil-less mix, in fact I think potted lavender may be a prime candidate for some version of Al's gritty mix). There are no drainage holes that I can see in that pop bottle and you are overwatering if the soil is never allowed to dry out. Lavender also like an alkaline soil. Adding some lime could help. ESPECIALLY if there is any peat moss at all in your soil mix, or if you are using pine fines as mulch or a soil amendment. So - alkaline soil, allow the soil to dry between waterings - not totally since these are first year plants but it shouldn't be wet or even damp all the time; and it loves the heat but dislikes humidity (hence it does pretty durn well in our dry near-desert conditions in N. Nevada). However at this point in time I hold out little hope for the survival of your plants over the winter, given their stunted condition now. I'm not trying to be discouraging; go ahead and try, you've come this far with them. But you need to repot them in a soil-less mix more suited to the plant and be prepared to supply extra heat and light, else they will not survive. Here is a discussion and fairly clear description of how to make Al's gritty mix. Personally I have found ALL the ingredients difficult to impossible to find. Turface, in particular, I have never been able to lay hands on - and though it is the virtually same stuff as certain types of cat litter or adsorbent, it isn't ALWAYS the same stuff. For instance, Napa Floor Dry has been touted as a replacement - but there are TWO KINDS and only one of them is suitable for this purpose. And I'm too tired to go dig up the links that tell you which is which. Also, having to screen and discard large portions of your ingredient isn't exactly lending itself to being affordable - let alone easy. That said - for this particular instance, I think gritty mix is your best bet - if you can only find the ingredients and get them properly screened and mixed.

Geez! That would've done me in!! I agree...if it was something REALLY worrisome, you'd have been sent somewhere right away. But the waiting part is the worst. Ugh! I hope it's good news. Oh, and I'd vote for excessive wine over clean floors, too!

You sound just fine. Good news. Aches and pains sometimes come along with hormone changes as we age less gracefully than we wish. We are exactly the same age as I recall.

If you were making the doctor laugh because he couldn't get your heart rate going, that is good news. I will check in for the official news on Tuesday and keep up the good thoughts, but it sounds good so far.

I'm glad the treadmill went well and hope you get a good report from the cardiologist.

I was almost through with my treadmill test, when the doc leaned his arm on the control panel and accidentally interrupted the test. We all had to wait while my heart rate returned to normal so we could start over. He was very apologetic, lol.

He did tell you everything looked pretty good from the pics, if there were any concerns he would have referred you right away. I had to have a nuclear stress test because of palps a couple years ago and the doc told me everything looked good, but the pics had to go to the cardiologist for evaluation. And everything WAS fine, so I bet your heart is perfectly healthy too.

Annie, it's good to hear you're back and that, so far, things look and sound good. Waiting for results is lousy, but I'll (& I'm sure dozens of others will) continue sending good thoughts your way.

Yeah, the waiting between the test and getting the results is the worst. BUT, it sounds like you aced the test! Sounds like all the good thoughts sent your way are working!!

Annie, I'm so glad to hear the test went well. But I'm not surprised. Anyone who can build fence and wrestle uncooperative steers wouldn't be fazed by a little old treadmill!

Annie I had to go searching to see what was up. I'm sorry you are going through this but glad to hear that you made it through the tests well. I'm hoping you are feeling much better soon. I truly enjoy your posts and reading about all the activity in your life. As hard as it may be for you, let your husband, kids and others care for you for a while!:)

I guess you showed the doctor what country women are made of! "sit around" - what's that???

I'll continue to keep you in mind as you wait for the test results. I'm sure time with family will do your heart good this weekend.

I'm glad immediate attention wasn't required.

Sherry and Peppi are really good house cleaners! All they have to say is "I'm coming" and voila--the house is spotless, even the sheets are ironed! Amazing.

Good point, Michael. Grandpa used to tell me that as long as you could lie on the floor and not fall off, you hadn't been drinking too much!

Good job Annie! I usually go between 11 and 12 minutes...I refuse to stop when they see the heart rate they want I always want to prove I can do better.....who me a first born! LOL.

Of all the heart tests I've had to take, I hate that one the most. It's not the treadmill I can do that in a heartbeat ( hahaha, hearbeat!!) it's that damn IV and then laying on that stupid skinny steel bed while the camera does it's thing. When I have mine my cardiologist is in the room so he reads all the results and talks to me right there.

The good news is that last time he said I didn't have to come back for 2 years.....the bad news is two years is up this Nov 25th...I hate that damn test!

Enjoy your weekend with the "girls" and give them both big hugs from me....promise I will sip a little wine in their honour.

Sharon, I was thinking about you as I was lying there on that skinny little metal bed, coughing my fool head off because they made me lie flat. The test wasn't so bad, it was the waiting.

Oh, the IV isn't fun either and I checked last night to see if I was glowing in the dark.....

OK, and now you've done it, I'm going to have to see how long I can go on the treadmill the next time, if I ever have to have another one!

Sip an extra bit of wine for me, will ya? It's good for your heart....

If I have another stress test, I will have to leave strict instruction NOT to leave a message at home (they should have called my cell phone, they HAD the number). I had a stress test. The nurses told me it would be about a week before I heard, unless there was a problem.
That night, after work, after 5pm when the doc's offices close, there was a message on my phone that I was to see the Dr. the next morning at 8:30. Well, needless to say, I didn't sleep very well. Scared to death!
Got in there, my BP was outrageous, of course...
Turns out the DOC was going on VACATION and just wanted to close out his cases... My heart was fine. Talk about GIVING someone a heart attack!

I told the front desk NEVER to leave someone a message like that after they've had a stress test or at least TELL the patient the doc is going on vacation and wants to close out his cases! Jeepers!

An experience I will never EVER forget!

Geeeeeez....I need to keep up, I had no idea. It does sound like it's all good. At least the weekend will go by fast with good company. I think the waiting for test results is the absolute worst.

Annie, I'm so glad to read your news and so very impressed at how well you did on the stress test. Eleven months after my heart surgery, with cardiac rehab three times a week, I can't even imagine doing what you did. Yep, it's the fence mending, farming, canning, grandkid corralling and everything else you do that keeps you healthy.

I'll be waiting for the rest of your good news from Boy Wonder.

And, Junelynn, I would have been furious too at that message when there was no crisis for you.

Annie, sounds like you're healthy. I hope they don't put you on all kinds of meds - I hate that - anyone over a certain age in America is on prescription meds, arrrrggghhhhh.

I also hate that my doc and dentist are both younger than me - Boy Wonder indeed - when did this happen?! LOL!
