Thanks. This season my 5 and 2 year old have been helping me raise some monarchs and black swallowtails. This is my first time raising them as well, so we're all learning a lot in the process...like how to ID milkweed and that I need to plant lots more fennel and carrots next season. :) We are all much more excited about getting out and seeing what we can discover. I think they're learning a healthy respect and appreciation of nature. I can't think of a more fun way for us to spend our summer together. Thanks to everyone for answering so many of my questions here and for posting such great pictures and questions of your own. I learn something new every time I check in. This is a great resource! A Morning Walk In The Garden, Part II

Thank you all for your comments. Iris Gal, yes those are Veronicas, the viarieties are "Blue Hill" and "Snow Hill". I believe they were bred in Germany and the German varietal names are "Blau Hugel" and "Snee Hugel". They are lovely, fragrant and can get huge. They also self seed, so once you grow them for a couple of years, you will have many, many new plants to transplant. With respect to the comments on Bredon, it is an early Austin that does very well for me here. It is small, approximately 16 inches in zone 4b, blooms well and would likely be good in a pot. The plant habit and rebloom is quite similar to Tamora which I do grow in a pot. Cheers, Rick

Thank you for looking and commenting. Nancy, Paul Neyron's huge blooms and sweet fragrance are always so welcome here. Kate, I think the reason knock-out roses don't appeal to me like the old garden roses is their lack of scent though their blooms are nice and my spouse loves the red ones sp I planted one for him. I am not a great peony gardener, Julis although I do love them and I did manage to have a bloom this time. I think our heat is one factor but I suspect I am at fault since I have lost a couple of them. Spring has been quite pretty here but summer will shut off some of the perfume and the almost ethereal beauty of springtime. Again, I thank you for your comments. Julia, you should be able to get a piece of your clematis back soon since you shared it. kay.

"I live in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia"

OK then. Now I know where to spend summers when I win that 370 mil lottery tonight. Ha.

Very beautiful! I will have to visit there someday.

RC, you'll have to split the 370 mil with me, since I'm planning on winning also.

Great photos!!

OK Kt, I'll buy the cabin and you pay for the utilities and food at the Okanagan Valley.

I'm not greedy, I'll happily split it as many ways as Lady Luck wants!

I guess it would be teasing to tell rcnaylor that the Okanagan Valley is nothing but orchards and vineyards.
So I won't mention it
