Hi There are WAY too many thinks going on in astronomy to keep with lol Think a lunar eclipse will be more serious than a collision with a near earth object?? How about the Andomeda galaxie is definitely colliding with the Milky way galaxie much faster than previously thought lol The expansion of the universe seems to be picking up speed?? Is the sun flaring more than usual if so what are the odds of a full impact with earth?? So many things to worry about !!! lol gary

PJ, this is from AOL News Earth's shadow will begin moving across the moon at 3:18 p.m. EST Saturday, with the total eclipse occurring at 5:44 p.m. EST and lasting more than an hour. Observers in eastern North America and South America will find the moon already partially or totally eclipsed by the time it rises over the horizon Saturday evening.

Here's the eclipse from April 14, 2014, taken in my back yard. The one last night was not this red, probably because the moon was directly overhead during the eclipse last night, whereas this one was closer to the horizon. I have a better camera now, but this one was taken with the camera on a tripod with a one second exposure, I think. It was around 60°F last night during the eclipse, and so weather was not an issue, but there were some clouds that would occasionally pass over the moon. Skies were clearer in 2014.

Apparently, enough people where looking at the sun to cause eye damage. David, you are not supposed to stare at the sun even with a sliver of sun, but I agree, the think the messsaging was confusing. I would think that your eyes are still exposed to UV radiation even from a BLACK sun, uv light is invisible and your eyes would be dilated in the darkness. I always wear glasses that have UV protection as I am out a LOT in the Summer. But the news soures were mostly saying it was OK to be looking during 100% totality. Then, there was a local, alternative reality "news" station I was listening to while driving and the radio host expressed the view that it was all a myth about the potential damage to the eye while viewing an eclipse.
