Fabulous lunch--with pictures!

Even though my birthday was last month, my friend CoeBe and I didn't get a chance to celebrate until this month. We went to my favorite Japanese restaurant (I've posted photos from this place last year too) for lunch. Oh, yummy!

The salads--clockwise from top--mushroom salad, roasted eggplant with sesame seeds, jicama/corn/shrimp salad, almond cabbage salad with scallions, marinated calamari, and shrimp with sweet red bell peppers.

The sashimi and sushi assortment -- there were lots more choices but this is what I chose)...

and green tea ice cream...very creamy!

On the way home, we stopped at a new little dessert place and she treated me to a couple of little things "for later."

On June 4 at 1:10 pm, I officially retired from 36 years of teaching (the last 34 were in the high school spec ed classroom). CoeBe was out of town for my big retirement party (remember the Kiss My @ss cookies?), so we're going to celebrate that belatedly too!

Oh Sooz that all looks wonderful! And the green tea ice cream does look so creamy and rich. And I would love to dip a spoon into those little things for later.

Thanks folks, my main reason for posting is that Mike Derrow and gary Schaben aren't mentioned as much here. As I'm sure there are northern readers that don't post here. Wanted to let them know there are excellent plants out there for the northern garden. Nat, I have noticed that many do best in their 3rd year. After that lots of extra water if it dosen't fall from the sky. Mostly I have to be happy with what I get. There are some more over the top plants but will save for another day.

I agree that your choices will be driven by whether it's a guest space, whether you you have a specific tenant in mind (say a family member) or if you'll be renting to currently unknown and potentially changing tenants. If the occupant is unknown, you don't want to put too much personality into the space because your taste may not be their taste. If it's a guest space it's the opposite--nobody has to live with it for very long so quirky will be charming instead of "what were they thinking?" If you have a specific tenant in mind, keep their tastes in mind. The Design Around This threads have a huge array of designs, and there were specifically a couple of barn/rustic designs, on the white thread and the animal prints thread, I think. If you are on a budget, the formica thread has some great designs as well. I'm Dreaming of a White Kitchen, But... Animal Prints Formica Patterns are coooool!

GeoKid, are the "mauve" chairs velvet or chintz? If they are chintz you can paint them. As for reupholstering them...I recently called to find out just how much it would cost to do two other wing chairs I have. The labor alone was $375 each chair. You can buy a new regular or even reclining wing chair by Lane or Lazyboy for about that price on sale. Anyway, if they are chintz and you want to paint them you might remember my recently painting a pair of chintz wing chairs...

No kidding 34 years in Sped Ed High School! You are a treasure!!

I've never had "sushi"...not sure I'd like it.

But that ice cream looks delish..and ofcourse the other desserts look amazing!

Hooray for you! You lived through 36 years of teaching? And the 34 of those years in high school special ed??? You should be nominated for sainthood! Really! I'm very happy that you now have some time for yourself.

Your lunch looks beautiful! I'd love to try the green tea ice cream.

Oh, LOL, certainly not a saint! But yes, 36 years teaching spec ed, and 34 of those were at the high school level. I started out with 2 years of teaching the deaf in grade K-1 and grade 4-5. Then, taught the deaf in high school for 17 years--after that, the rest of my career (another 17 years) was spent with high school students who have developmental delays like autism, Down Syndrome, severe disorder of language, mental retardation, etc.

It's definitely time for me to relax and enjoy!
