Robin's Egg Blue Tub - what color walls?

Excuse the mess in this picture. This was the day after Hurricane Sandy. We are salvaging the robin's egg blue toilet and tub (from the 1960s). I'm going to have white beadboard 4 feet up. My question is, what color should I paint the top half of the wall?

I've never had sheets to fade. I love colored sheets (and towels, etc. for that matter!), but do lean more towards lighter shades. About a year ago I bought some aqua sheets from TJ Maxx. Not sure about the maker, but they were a high thread count, very silky feeling. They've worn great. I am an ivory/creme lover, so I've never had pure white sheets. I do like you mentioned, sometimes use creme/ivory sheets - or better yet a creme/ivory flat or fitted sheet and use a print for the remaining sheet and pillowcases. Penney's did have some sheets in the color you are wanting. I have also seen a magazine add with a pattern in an aqua print (kind of a paisley design) from Better Homes and Garden that I plan on checking out - even though I normally boycott Walmart! LOL tina

What do you have on the wall above your master bath tub?

I have 2 windows (with faux wood blinds covering them thank you) at right angles above the tub in the master bath, so no wall art there. However, I do have a prominent piece of wall separating 2 mirrors over our vanities.........This wall is crying for something but I haven't found it. The other day, I saw some really pretty decorative wall clocks and have been thinking about that. For some reason I wasn't sure if it would be odd to have a pretty wall clock hanging there, although honestly it kind of makes sense. What do you think? The ones I saw (at Ross or TJMaxx) were round and had nice detailed frames. I am linking a nice substantial one I just saw on the o site, just wondering what the decorating experts here think of a decorative clock as a piece of décor in a bathroom.square not round but a pretty clock

Buffy, thats a cast iron tub. they don't make 'em like that anymore! if you want some ideas on how to do a retro type of decor, go to Retro Renovation and browse their blog of before and afters. they reuse everything from that era. but yes, you can have a white toilet and keep the blue tub. you could always do a frame in cover for the front portion of the tub. that way you would only see the blue, top portion. (if you do the spray epoxy enamel coating, it only lasts a few years before it will chip) They tiled it in this one, but you could do a vinyl wood-look panel or beadboard, or a painted and sealed mdf. but these 4x4's are cool. along w/tiling the front portion, you could have a solid cut out fit around the top of the tub, like shown in this picture, further disguising the blue this could be a really cool bathroom. instead of the 1" hex, do a 1950's style, 3" hex like they did here w/the green Retiling around the surround too? The colors are reversed here, but you get the idea. you could do black or white and run the tiles like they've done here. bring in a cool sink, tile wainscot, and a custom painted linen cabinet. beesneedsWe have a tankless water heater that sits about 12 feet (on the outside of the house) from where the tub is installed. The tankless provides unlimited hot water at call. They are also VERY eco-friendly and conserve energy (not always heating and re-heating like the tank-style water heaters). Lowering both our gas bill and water bill! I obviously won't be taking baths every night ~ or even every week... And there would never be a desire to fill the tub all the way to capacity whenever it is in use. I just love how big it is for a fun bath playtime (or indoor "pool" time in the hot California summers) for my 3 small children. They can splash around and not make a total disaster on the bathroom floor. To answer your second question, I wouldn't think you'd want to leave water standing inside copper for days upon end... mostly because stagnant water breeds bacteria and I've been instructed to not put any cleaning chemicals or even products like Epsom Salt in the tub since it can scratch the finish. If you anticipate getting something like this tub for an outdoor pool, I'd contact a professional to discuss if its a good idea for long-term standing water. :)

I think a shade of blue slightly darker than the fixtures would be great if there's a lot of light in the room.
Another option would be a shade of yellow that complements the blue and ties in the woodwork at the door. If you are painting the door frame white, yellow will still look good.
Or you could look for pretty patterned towels and pick up a color from them.

That's such a wonderful, distinctive blue that I'd let it dominate by using the same clean, crisp white for both walls and trim.

I'd use white towels, a navy and white shower curtain, and warm nickel for the hardware. Then something really appealing on the wall - a big old travel poster, or an oversized color photo of a forest, or a waterfall - something strong and colorful if you like.

SImple, elegant, and clean - which I think you would find satisfying after the horribleness of Sandy.

A very, very pale blue. Or white. Both are crisp, clean and fresh with the blue!

How about wallpaper in black and white, either a damask pattern or geometric?

White on the walls with white beadboard. They will look different because of the texture of the BB. If you must do a color, go with a very LIGHT blue gray or very LIGHT creamy yellow.

I would suggest gray or maybe navy blue if the room has enough light.

ecru is my suggestion, or a really really light grey. Way to go in saving and reusing those beautiful blue porcelains :)

If you are also keeping the floor tile, I would go with one of the lighter colors in the tile and get crisp white towels and rugs and bright shiny chrome fixtures.

Great fixtures and color, love that you are keeping them. If the cool, vintage tile floor is going, I like the thought of white with red, maybe a red between cranberry red and Teaberry gum red, which, while a bold choice (only you know your tolerance for that), is also a traditional choice, and you could have a Williamsburg like shower curtain in a floral pattern with those colors or go contemporary and do somethink ikat inspired or striped featuring the red and blue and probably some yellow gold and a rich spring green.

If you are keeping the floor, I'd go straight clear white without any yellow or gray, I think the blue is too happy a color to go grey with.
