My city and county does have a composting center. You can not haul leaves and grass clippings to the dump. They also have a limb burn pile. Every year I haul truckload after truckload of the compost back home and spread it on the garden. It is free and if you go on the right day, they will load you with a skid loader. Our local grocery store gives our tiny zoo produce that is past its prime. Is it bad, no, just no one will buy it. It save them lots of money, the zoo that is. Why is it the policy of all companies to not give away bad produce and scraps, Liability Insurance! If they gave it away, then they could get sued if the person accepting it, ate it and got sick. Gotta love lawyers!

All done - long day, but fun. Thankfully good weather, but I think we had a lot of competition for other things going on.

Toxcrusadr, our neighborhood trash pick up was yesterday. I almost cried to see how many blue trash bins were full of yardscaping waste this week. It was the first sunny week here. I only WISH our state would ban it. It's just one more reason that I'm so excited to do one more thing to help the environment. In just a week, for Earth Day, my husband and I are going to start composting. My husband's suggestion was that everyone would be given a composter and then charged for waste instead of vice versa. I guess only in a perfect world. Until then, I'm doing everything I can!

I signed up in November, and the fact that holiday season is over notwithstanding, our catalogue deluge has dried up considerably. Our postwoman asked about it! I've used this site a couple of times to FIND catalogues- not to get them, mind you, but to peruse their websites and look for goodies.
