I think I must be getting cabin fever...At the moment we are sharing ONE vehicle between 3 of us...And yup, I'm stuck at home the most...Not that bad since I really don't want to go out much in this cold weather...Next time I do leave I'll be picking up a BIG bag of soil so that I can do some WS'ing....

Hmmmm...fall just officially started about 2 weeks ago. Fall is the 2nd busiest garden season after Spring. We had such a hot dry summer, with watering restrictions, that I did very little transplanting or planting. Most of the winter-sown seedlings and some perennials sat in containers or pots, because it was easier to water and keep them alive that way. It has cooled off and started to rain again, so I've been busy working on a couple new beds and started to move perennials. Also planting those winter-sown babies. Also have some shrubs and trees to move. Assorted yard work. Etc. So no I'm not missing spring, because there's lots of gardening to do. But I know how you feel, because winter is my least favorite season. Ask me again in another couple months... :-/

Ok, so-- 1) I'm somewhat inland- we get more sun that SF-- temps regularly reach the 80's and 90's in the summer, very rarely over 100, common morning fog burning off well before noon. 2) Common butterflies in the area-- Western Tiger Swallowtail, Pipevine Swallowtail, Anise Swallowtail, West Coast Lady, Painted Lady, Monarch, skippers, perhaps the Mourning Cloak as well. All that's from other butterfly gardeners though, as I'm pretty new to this. Perhaps if Joe posts on here, he can give a more detailed answer about what we have around here. I'd love to hear if people have had personal experience with the bushes-- how they grew, how fast, how high, lots of butterflies? etc etc I figure you guys have got to be the real experts on that.

First Frost is still the best looking hosta in my garden. Halcyon is next, and Color Glory. Rainforest Sunrise,Paradigm, Cathedral Windows, Stained Glass, T Rex, Guacamole, Abiqua Drinking Gourd, all still look great plus a few more. We have not had a killing frost yet tho, maybe later this week. Then we shall see who comes thru that.

I'm there with you mcmann! I am a LOST junkie. And I very rarely get hooked on a television show. I do not watch anything else faithfully. But I love LOST. Never lost interest. The harder it got to follow, the more I liked it. I am glad it's the final season, though. I'm ready for some closure. I even like watching the "review" shows the started showing, see things I forgot or didn't notice the first time. I think this is the only show I have ever made the effort to see every episode from the beginning. DH can't stand it, won't watch with me. Whatever. I will be watching next Tuesday!

SO AM I!!! Been froze up since friday. My car want start. Water pipes froze.Thawed them out Saturday, Monday the hot water pipe was froze. Thawed that out so now I leave the w
ater running at night just in case. Spring where are you??? With all of the ice and snow I forgot what it looks like. Thanks for the reminder.

Doris, we've been having the frozen pipe problem, too. What a pain in the....when we were thawing out we got a small crack in one...we found this goop to repair it, which we haven't done yet, but it freezes at the dripping point anyway...slow pressure though...hope that'll be done this weekend and to get wheels going, too...

SPRING...woohoo! 5 weeks away...

juanital. I paid $500.00 for new heat tape three years ago. Last summer I had to have a new hot water heater and they took the heat tape off part of the pipe and didn't replace it. That's what froze. Luckily it was just a small area. The car was just too cold to crank over. Wednesday I got a jump start and it is ok now.
