philes21, thanks! The only weed I'm worried about is what I think is quackgrass, and I've got a lot of it. As far as fertilization, I did a 1/2 shot of starter at the 28 day mark of my reno and plan another 1/2 shot in a few weeks. I have milorganite, but I think it's too late to be effective with the cold temps coming. I will then put the winterizer fert on in November for the year. Hopefully, in the spring things will thicken up a bit!

hi pee wee! thanks so much for writing - this board must take up a good chunk of your time! i may be somewhat "slow" today - forgive me - are you talking about connections inside the TV? or between the devices? i plugged in the TV in the store room.. can't get any channels without even rabbit ears, but the menu is expanding & contracting. it hasn't turned itself off, yet... thank you!

The quilt is for my son. He is a professional firefighter. I made a quilt for my DL but wanted to make something for his bunk at the station. But most the time you can only find kids prints. Then in Keepsake quilt mag I saw a adult theme and my head started spinning with all the idea's. I searched for months to get the right stuff. Most of the print is vintage looking. I am going to have my daughter in law take a better picture of it. I finished it in time for my oldest son to take it to Mike. They both live about 4 hrs away. So I took some quick pictures and sent it off. In fact I didn't take the pictures or look at them. I was kind of bummed when I did. Because it didn't show the colors every well at all. The stars were all surrounded in a batik red fabric. It had gold stars in it. The main solid looking color wasn't really solid, it was a marbled....then the back was a deep red with tiny gold dots. It was a very warm colored quilt. Sarah is very good at pictures, so I hope to get some nice ones of it.... As for the dog of course! ha-ha I can't seem to do anything without a dog involved. I have papillons. You should see when I have to lay one out totally. I have to run done the hall, and bet them to the bedroom. Then close the door. If not, you would think I put down a freshly mowed lawn on the bed. They all want up to see it...smell it and then roll on it..and then take a nap. I have no idea why. Maybe they are spoiled rotten! Great that you have wood ash access. It is also an excellent source of the needed micro-nutrients. But as rgreen said, don't go overboard. But that is true with anything. You can always add more but can't take out what you added. :-) No ashes from BBQ grills, cardboard, plywood, painted, or pressure treated wood. Soft woods ok but not as good as hardwood ash. A commonly forum recommended application rate is 1 lb. per 100 sq. feet. but I find that to be too high for my comfort level. I prefer the recommendation out of University of GA Extension Service - 1/4-1/2" layer over entire bed in early spring before planting and mixed in and watered well. Then an additional 1/2" layer over the entire bed in the fall and allowed to over-winter in place. If any plants show symptoms of deficiency during the season you can always side dress them with an additional 1/4". Dave
