That is a beautiful place...

An observation.

To my eyes there is huge difference in picture quality. What do you think? I definately think that the jpeg engine in the Olympus is superior, but looking at the exif I notice things are not equal.

I was having a hard time finding the focal point in #1, but at 1/40 the slightest movest will be detected. I think that is what happened.

There is great bit of differences in the exposure set-ups . Even though I suspect that the 510 will produce a better picture it is hard to say so because of the exposure settings were not near identical.

Okay Joe...what does this mean and how did/do you know what it is/was or how she did it???
I found a new bunch of modes on my camera yesterday [Always helps to read instruction manuel doesn't it LOL]
Now I am trying to learn what they do and when best to use them....

I think SM. AS to anyone who says that they treat SKids the same as children, I have real doubts about that. As I have said before a person can not even the notice the difference in his/her own facial expression, tone of voice, etc. The child might. OP doesnt have her own children. So many variables here. I can accept that OP is tryng to be good and helpful, maybe a parenting coach could help. And when a parent focuses on trying to get control, rather than trying to help a child develope self-control (yes, even for a 3 yr old), I think that is the harbinger of greater problems.

Here's a picture of it last year. Definitely darker than where it is now. I expect it will darken some when we get back to normal sun, which is supposed to be next week. I'll bet we haven't had 30 days of sun since my hostsas starting appearing in late Feb.

Thanks Joe, You are right about the differences...I think I'll take both cams and have them set up the same as an experimentation...I didn't consider when posting...the settings, but this will be very interestng...I really appreciate your comments as it is very helpful...

In reference to Sydney's question...How do you get the info? When I right click properties it only shows size and dimensions on computer...Always have been curious about that... Thanks for sharing your knowledge....

--"The camera's metering system will sometimes determine the wrong exposure value needed to correctly expose the image. This can be corrected by the "EV Compensation" feature found in prosumer and professional cameras. Typically the EV compensation ranges from -2.0 EV to +2.0 EV with adjustments in steps of 0.5 or 0.3 EV. Some digital SLRs have wider EV compensation ranges, e.g. from -5.0 EV to +5.0 EV.

It is important to understand that increasing the EV compensation by 1 is equivalent to reducing EV by 1 and will therefore double the amount of light. For instance if the camera's automatic mode determined you should be using an aperture of f/8 and a shutterspeed of 1/125s at ISO 100 (13 EV) and the resulting image appears underexposed (e.g. by looking at the histogram), applying a +1.0 EV exposure compensation will cause the camera to use a shutterspeed of 1/60s or an aperture of f/5.6 to allow for more light (12 EV).

Of course, as you become more familiar with your camera's metering system, you can already apply an EV compensation before the shooting. For instance if your camera tends to clip highlights and you are shooting a scene with bright clouds, you may want to set the EV compensation to -0.3 or -0.7 EV."
