You've got a good handle on things. As long as you will be replacing the fuel line, filter etc- go ahead and buy a carb kit. You are correct that the debris in the float valve chamber likely made it leak, but replace the valve whilst you are there to be sure or at least if it shows worn. The bowl seals should be in the kit- some had 2 bowl seals on top- though one is really a baffle and goes below the ring. You can go to the Kohler site, log in as guest and have access to parts look up and service manuals at no cost. The black stuff could be a deteriorated fuel line or other part or who knows. I'm not saying we're actually going to attempt this, but what do you think would cause them to die? The transplanting process itself, the amended soil, or the height of the raised bed?" It's just the fact you just planted them last October. They have had 8 months to reestablish with little or no side effects except inner browning which is normal. The fact you are now entertaining digging them back up for reestablishment in a raised bed will not be in their best interests especially with summer around the corner.
