Grreat idea! Very pretty, I love Impatiens, they are one of my favorites!

To make a long story longer I will continue to help you through your issues. "You said that if we created a raised bed with amended soil that we would probably lose most of the junipers. I'm not saying we're actually going to attempt this, but what do you think would cause them to die? The transplanting process itself, the amended soil, or the height of the raised bed?" It's just the fact you just planted them last October. They have had 8 months to reestablish with little or no side effects except inner browning which is normal. The fact you are now entertaining digging them back up for reestablishment in a raised bed will not be in their best interests especially with summer around the corner. Also they are not dying tells me your watering is not out of balance. Disregard the 5 inches of rain Mother Nature dumped upon them. I'll take that anytime. A natural occurrence. All nursery personal are programed weather qualified or not to sell shelf products to cure plant aliments. They will tell you all scenarios and create some as to what may be the problem with your plants. Hopefully they didn't relieve your pocket book of any change trying to diagnose all these potential problems. Save your receipts. If not convinced after talking to the forum about your concerns you have call your local extension agent and they will come out and tell you what, if any problems, you could have. Dave

Should I even bother with this, or should I dump the whole thing into the compost pile for next year? No to the first part and yes to the second part. ;) It is one of those "old gardener's tales" that many swear by but which research shows does nothing for the plants. Egg shells just don't break down that quickly but it makes the gardener feel better adding them. It is based on the old belief that BER is caused by a lack of soil calcium. We now know that isn't the case but by the plant's inability to use the available calcium due to many possible stress factors. There is a good FAQ here on BER and its contributing factors. So while it can benefit the soil next year when you add your compost, I wouldn't put lots of effort into it now. Dave

Have you even contacted Amazon at all or the site where you bought the books? I own several kindles and amazon has the most excellent tech support with help for their kindles. You can either post on the kindle forums or call Amazon so there is really no need to take your tower out of the house. You don't even need to hook the kindle to the computer to get files on it. You do have wifi in your house don't you? What happened when you installed send to kindle on your computer and tried that? Are you sure the files you bought are in a format for the kindle? I think you should contact the site where you bought the files and make sure other wise you are waisting your time taking your tower out of house to get them transferred if they are not in the right format for the kindle.
