First of all - for those here who wonder what "naked ladies" are, do NOT google that phrase! I did years ago when I was trying to get their botanical name, and up came the porn sites.

Marilyn - how beautiful that field of dafs must be! One of nature's glories, indeed. When your "ladies" bloom, that will also be wonderful. We have just a few on our property and I love to see them appear.

I cannot really garden because of my back, and also, our property is difficult. But we care for what was already here and what grows naturally. Our camellia tree is just finishing its pink blooms and the white angel trumpets (brugmansia) are almost finished for awhile. Bright pink wild geraniums line our long driveway and there are calla lilies everywhere. Callas grow wild here and spread quickly. The plum tree just finished blooming and there is wild yellow oxalis all over. We don't ever water or fertilize, just prune and weed. If we just get good Jan-Feb rain, and we did this year, everything is good to go through the fall.

Naked ladies are the true amaryllis. The amaryllis that everyone loves is actually hippeastrum. But N.L.s also have another botanical name; just can't recall it. There are so many beautiful flowers in the lily family!

We have all kinds of trees in bloom here. I have no idea what most of them are! I do know the Bradford Pears, the peach trees and what I think may be some kind of a weeping cherry are going full force. The daff's of course and the forsythia. The roses are just leafing out and it will be the species roses that bloom first- Father Hugo is one of my favorites.

Just remembered the name for naked ladies. Colchicum!

Here is a link that might be useful: colchicum, aka naked ladies

Sure are pretty ladies. My daughter has "Brugs" but she has to keep them in the green house over winter. She has a lot of different things I don't know the names of. Before she had her big green house every fall they used to haul all the tropicals to our little house out back, called by the family,"The Club House". We keep it heated and it has a kitchen, livingroom, bedroom and bath in it. Our son used to live there and after that our son in law.
Yes, I too like the wild flowers.

I have Naked Ladies too along the driveway along with daffodils. The NL have lots of lush leaves right now and the daffodils are all past. Roses are starting to bloom as well as the lilacs. Also blooming in pots ranunculus, anemones, and freesias. The crepe myrtle is just starting to bud.

I think those are also called Surprise Lillies. I tried to transplant some from a property my dad owns. I went back and couldn't find the darn things.

This is an old picture of them. Outside right now, the leaves are up right now. But probably frozen as it's only 23°. The flower will come later this summer. Yes they are also called Surprise Lillies.
