Cabinet Coat Paint north of Boston
Comments (11)If you can't find anyone who will order it for you in your area you might try online. I saw it on amazon.com. There are a couple different ones listed with different order numbers. I couldn't tell what the difference was. I think it can come in one of their pre-mixed colors, or you can buy the tintable base and have it tinted your own color, so maybe that's the difference. It can only be tinted light, pastel colors I read. I think some of those vendors on the Amazon site sold it in cans of 2. I just did cabinets, baseboard trim and a door in a bathroom and didn't even use a half of a gallon can. I think I paid about $40 for the gallon size. The store where I bought it locally also sold several other brands of paint. I picked an off-white paint chip from one of the other brands and they mixed it in the cabinet coat base. They had to tweak it though, (added about 2 1/2 times the normal amount of colorant) to get it the right color. It is a really nice finish, so I hope you can find it. Comments (2)Way up here in Fargo, ND... The ACE version is getting kinda popular! Couple of advantages to the ACE... 1) Low VOC. 0-50g/L. 2) It's an ACE Tint-base series. Meaning... * Other colors can be matched INTO this ACE line. * ACE formulas can go directly into this paint. With CC, we have to work at the colors for while, since their "White" is grayer than ACE's Ultra-White tint-base. * CC's Tint-base can only go to Pastel-shade colors. * ACE's version has all 4 bases, so you can do a Burgundy Cabinet-paint if needed. * I've done a nice Hunter-Green in ACE Cab/Trim paint. Not possible with CC. * I've only done these brands on sample-boards, but they look real nice!! Faron...See MoreAce cabinet paint?????
Comments (8)Faron, you're a hoot. Although, when I got off the plane with DH and Frank in tow, it might ruin the effect. And I've been to Fargo before... Anywho, back to paint. QUARTS!!! Wooohhooo! So, I wonder if my hillbilly Ace could order me some? If so, I'll buy the place up, because I do need colors other than white, and that Behr I used last time just isn't cutting it. I'm on a really tight budget right now, have a lot of painting to do (hopefully finished by Thanksgiving) and need a durable paint that's easy to apply and will last. I'd love to use really high end paint, but that's just not possible right now. In the meantime, I need to get that avacado green table more presentable and the black/red/brown chippy nightstand to go with my light teal bedspread! The dark, poorly finished dresser? Something must be done to that asap! The bookshelf with the faux spatter textured finish doesn't really "go" with my vintage/retro craft room vibe. The nightstand that used to be red that got painted white but the red remnants that have bled through because I used bad primer and now it's spotted pink? Not acceptable. The vintage desk that someone ages ago painted white, then had the brilliant idea to ?antique? it by slopping varnish all over it (and by slopping, I mean, really, slopping)? That just looks tacky, and not in a good way. So, bust out the sanding paper, the steel wool, the brushes and the paint, because here we go!...See MoreAce Cabinet Paint vs Cabinet Coat
Comments (22)"There is a reason it's $20 cheaper, think about it," Volume buys of raw materials, for one, and then volume sales of finished product. :) ADDING: You must paint deliberately and trust that the Alkyd will level itself - it will if you don't keep overbrushing it. (speaking of Behr's alkyd) This ^^^ is why many painters have a hard time with Behr. My painting style has very little rebrushing and touchups, so the dreaded lift-off doesn't happen. A common mistake is applying too thin a coat which cannot flow out. ^^^ That too. ************************* XIM's Latex X-tender additive will give longer open-times. Consider this if you know you are a slow painter. And practice on the backs of the doors. There IS NO definition of "Cure time". Nobody knows what it means! Most people think it means when it's "dried for a day". Nooooooopppe! FULL-CURE is when the entire film-profile has hardened-off...ALL THE WAY THRU. or most people it's "when can I start using it and not have stuff stick to my shelves"....See More- 14 years ago
