I'm sure Faron will be able to help, so I'm bumping this. You might want to consider Muralo Ultra Ceramic - go to the thread below and scroll down for Funcolor's take on this paint. Not sure that it is cheaper than Cabinet Coat, though.

I did some calling around, and found another Ace that does have it, so I'm guessing the first place either didn't know what they were talking about, or never carried it to begin with.

$28/gallon, compared to the Insl-X at $44/gallon. I've never used either, but found a few other reviews of the Ace product, and they were all positive, so I'll give it a try. Too bad they don't carry it in quarts, though, but I have enough furniture to paint that I should be able to use it all up. And here's another thought (cheap as I am) I wonder if they could divide up a gallon, and make it into different tints? You know, a quart of one color, a quart of another, as long as all the colors used the same tint base?

I'll check on Friday (today!) @ work.

* It was designed to be a good leveling "Hybrid" paint for critical-use projects.
* It's also Low-voc, so it can be sold all over. Cab-Coat can't.

Thanks Faron. My guess is that the person at store #1 just didn't know what they were talking about. They looked it up in their computer and just couldn't find anything. The guy at store #2 also wasn't familiar with it, but looked, and said they had a few gallons on the shelf.

One more question...when you did the test with the white paint, was it tinted to a white shade, or was it that color off the shelf? I need a plain, crisp, true white, something that doesn't hint at gray, yellow, pink, or blue. If it's not that color out of the can, what color did you tint it to? I looked at the chips for the Insl-X, and I agree that it looks grayish to me.

I didn't think anyone would be willing to split up a gallon. Maybe if I dressed real cute and firted? LOL! Really, if it's such a good paint for furniture, and can be tinted to almost any shade, you'd think they make it in quarts. Who needs a gallon to paint a chair?

I used Ace Cabinet Paint to paint my daughters toy box. It took at over 4 weeks for the odor to subside that I could put it back in her room. I have also used Muralo Ultra Satin on trim and interior doors..it is a superior paint. Very little odor, easy to apply and dries rock hard. It can be hard to fine but it is well worth the effort.

Well, I may have answered my own question. I need Ultra White tint base?

Also, does any of the Royal paint line come in quarts?

Booger, I looked for Muralo, but there's nowhere near me that sells it. I live in a small town, so I need to go to the next small town over to find an Ace. There's a SW store in town, HD, and Lowes. The Ace #1 sells Ben Moore.

On another post, I've talked about my experience with Behr on furniture. The application and finish was great, but months later, things stick to it. And the finish feels rubbery (I know, it's latex paint) but it feels soft, like I could dent/scrape it with my fingernail. One of the pieces that I painted was finished almost a year ago! These pieces were sanded, primed with BIN, painted the next day, then recoated the following day, then allowed to cure undisturbed indoors for a few weeks.

I have a LOT of furniture to paint, and 5 of the pieces will be white, so the Ace cabinet paint seems like a good bet. I'm wondering what would be a good option for other paints, though. Preferably something that comes in quarts.

Since ACE CD&T came out in late '07, we've had all the tint-bases and sizes.
Insl-X's "White"...yes...it's kind of a weird blue/gray-white. The ACE is a bright, snowbank white.

Odor: Hmmm, I thought it had a very low odor. Deep colors can have more odor though, since there's much more colorant.
Muralo...yes another very good paint. Kinda wish I had some of that line!
In ACE's price-point category, it's a very good value though.

So....Franksmom....when does your flight get here?!
(a Red or Black slinky dress with long flowing hair would do nicely...although I'm not sure what kind of paint you'd ACTUALLY end up with LOL!!!)

Faron, you're a hoot. Although, when I got off the plane with DH and Frank in tow, it might ruin the effect. And I've been to Fargo before...

Anywho, back to paint. QUARTS!!! Wooohhooo! So, I wonder if my hillbilly Ace could order me some? If so, I'll buy the place up, because I do need colors other than white, and that Behr I used last time just isn't cutting it.

I'm on a really tight budget right now, have a lot of painting to do (hopefully finished by Thanksgiving) and need a durable paint that's easy to apply and will last. I'd love to use really high end paint, but that's just not possible right now.

In the meantime, I need to get that avacado green table more presentable and the black/red/brown chippy nightstand to go with my light teal bedspread! The dark, poorly finished dresser? Something must be done to that asap! The bookshelf with the faux spatter textured finish doesn't really "go" with my vintage/retro craft room vibe. The nightstand that used to be red that got painted white but the red remnants that have bled through because I used bad primer and now it's spotted pink? Not acceptable. The vintage desk that someone ages ago painted white, then had the brilliant idea to ?antique? it by slopping varnish all over it (and by slopping, I mean, really, slopping)? That just looks tacky, and not in a good way.

So, bust out the sanding paper, the steel wool, the brushes and the paint, because here we go!
