Trader Joe's seasonal items - stock up

Was just at TJ's this morning and, OMG!! they had their Puff Pastry in the freezer. I got so excited I bought FOUR boxes.

What're your favorite seasonal items? Do you stock up?

Several years ago they had some wonderful shortbread for the holidays, but then I never saw it again. I hope to get there this month some time and look for it again.
The Triple Gingerbread Cookies seem to be available all the time now, but they feel seasonal. The only bought cookie I ever serve along with my own Christmas cookies.

My favorite is the fresh cranberry orange relish. It's in their refrigerated section. They also have a freshly prepared regular cranberry sauce, but I love the cranberry orange sauce. It's just cranberries ground up with oranges and some sugar. I buy at least 3-4 tubs each season and freeze a couple for turkey dinners throughout the year.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to make a trip to pick some up.

Have to say that the "1000 layer crackers" are so very good! They don't look very fancy but have just the best texture and a grainy/nutty flavor that complements, but doesn't overpower, a good cheese. They are my new favorite cracker. I'm not crazy for pretzels and generally choose other snacks over them, but those chocolate covered, peanut butter filled pretzels are something else. The filling has bits of nut and the chocolate is smooth and fine. The texture and little hint of salt from the pretzel makes it all sing. We didn't end up using the frozen appetizers. DH made a run to his favorite cheese place and got such a nice assortment that with bread, crackers, grapes, sliced pears & apples and nuts we were good to go for the number of people we had. I'll report on how I like them when we try them. Thanks to everyone who keeps posting their favorites. My list of "must try" items is growing!

I have never been in a TJ's that had several rows of frozen foods, and we have a few that aren't far from us. I don't think it's a big deal to access the crackers and cookies over the frozen foods. Unfortunately, I am able to easily grab the boxes of Jo-Jo's. ;) The parking lots are always small and awkward! I thought it was just around us because the stores are in urban locations, but I guess not? I think maybe we oversold the whole TJ's experience and you were disappointed, Oakley! I like it for certain things, but to me it's not the greatest store ever. I doubt that I'd go too far out of my way to shop there. Forgot to mention earlier that my kids used to love Nutrigrain bars, and TJ's has their own brand that are basically the same and so much cheaper. That's one of the items I've stocked up on there.

I sprinkled a little on my rice the other night to give it a try - was glad for the forewarning that it was salty - used a light hand. I thought it was good and added more depth of flavor than salt and pepper alone. My son liked it too. I used a little on roasted veggies last night - husband doesn't seem to be a big fan. I think it's because he saw the word mushroom and he's not much of a miushroom lover ha, ha. I do not use much salt at all overall, although I do use a sprinkle on things like rice, potatoes and vegetables, which I also season with olive oil, pepper, and various herbs. I would definitely add it to homemade soups, as I feel like sometimes when you serve them the first day they lack a bit of depth of flavor that develops overnight, and I think this seasoning would help. Other than that, I might just end up putting it on the table for my son & I to use sometimes for a little flavor boost, just as he and I sometimes add crushed red pepper for an added kick. Husband has plainer tastes and don't want him to use the blend as a reason not to eat his vegetables lol. It does get a bit frustrating as he also shuns onions and what he perceives as too much garlic. My son and I love it all!

I lock my car simply because it pulls in the wing mirrors which I think helps the people parking next to me. Are car parking slots getting smaller? Sure seems that way! If I can help it, I do not carry a purse to the grocery. I put my drivers license and a credit card in one pocket of my pants and the key fob in the other pocket. The closest TJ to me is more than an hour and a half away. I might throw a cooler in the car and go twice a year or so. I’m like a kid in a candy store buying stuff I don’t need! I have 2 packages of the puff pastry in my freezer now. Bought it only because I had heard how good it was. I guess I need to find a use for it since I will soon be without a freezer. I’m giving it to DD and DSIL for the 1/2 cow they are buying. @ratherbesewing, regarding TJ cheese…at all costs avoid the low fat Brie! I somehow picked it up by mistake and didn’t notice until I got home. If you have an old rubber ball, just gnaw on it; same texture and taste!

I just bought some of their pumpkin ice cream yesterday. It's really good! Nice and creamy with spices.

Nope, haven't been to TJ's in a couple of months, at least, so I don't know if they have holiday stuff out in Ann Arbor or not.

Heads up for fellow cheese heads: I just saw half a round of Epoisses (stinky cheese)! I'm stocking up on a few for my own guilty pleasure.
