Airborne Settling $23.3 million false advertising suit

Those of you who have purchased Airborne may be entitled to a refund. I saw a headline on CNN and Googled "Airborne". Apparently they are settling a class action false advertising suit. You may be entitled to a refund for up to six purchases of Airborne.

I didn't know there was a law suit. I have used it often, and feel like it helped me from getting "really sick".

Me too, in fact I have a tube of it in the bathroom cabinet now. It isn't cheap either.

The FTC used to sue people into the ground when they made unsubstantiated claims, it used to be that if you lied you could not make a profit off of the environment of misinformation that you created. Airborne has removed those claims from their packaging, but people still remember them. If they did work the manufacturers had enough money to prove it, but chose not to. Slap on the wrist.

gotta love threads like these, and gotta love the people that need to convince themselves that their $3,000 honda generator was made by GOD himself and since they bought one, - everyone else should buy one too. especially had to laugh when someone suggested buying a generac over a another brand with a real honda engine. let me remind everyone that pride of ownership is a huge factor here, and if you ever take a trip to a honda dealer, you will find a long line of equipment in the back room waiting for repairs. so just because you bought one of the most expensive generators around, doesnt mean they dont break. so seriousy - get over yourself. i know this is an old thread but the issue will go on forever. my personal feeling if i were to buy another generator, is to buy the same deal the OP described. many suppliers offer generators with real honda engines for about $200 more than a similar sized unit with a honda clone. AND - even the honda clones these days are extremely reliable if broken in and maintained properly. what many people dont know, is the clone engines are designed using expired honda patents, and have come a long way in recent years. the karting world even has a separate racing class for them, and a 6.5 hp engine can be modified to push almost 20hp and rev up to 9000 rpm. that being said, a clone motor will have NO PROBLEM running a generator at 3600 for the occasional black out and power loss so long as you use common sense to maintain it. i dont care if JESUS HIMSELF built your honda generator, if you leave the same gas in it for 4 years - your carb will need to be cleaned. now - i am not saying that honda and honda clones are of equal quality and reliability, but something has to be said for a $650 ETQ generator with a pure sign wave, that makes more power (7250 cont) and will keep my lights on just as well as a $3,000 Honda with 5000 cont watts.. furthermore, after your 2 year warranty expires on your $3,000 honda, you can enjoy the $100 an hour labor rate, and $1200 repair bill god forbid you ever need to bring it to a dealer for repair - THAT YOU WILL DO since you spent so much money for the "best" me on the other hand - if my $650 generator gets used 3 times in years, i will feel i got my moneys worth out if it, and it it dies - i will toss it the garbage or sell it for parts, and buy another brand new generator with another 2 yr warranty for less than you paid for the labor alone on your repair bill.. - unless your a contractor using the thing on remote jobsites for 30 weeks out of the year, you have no need for a $3,000 portable generator anyway, because this is who these things are made for. for $2400 you can buy a 12kw whole house standy unit at costco made by generac, thats completely automatic, runs off natural gas, and is big enough to run 2 central air units along with most of your home. lastly - I hate to break the news to all the honda guys, but honda is not the "top of the line" when it comes to reliable generators. i work for a major utility company, and you will not find ONE honda generator on ANY utility truck.

A side note: Those stair kits will never pass code unless you have a perfectly level, flat ground under the deck. Precut stair stringers are a joke! A person can't even lay out stairs correctly until they mark a minimum of 3 elevations: 2 at the first riser and another for the deck surface. Only then can you lay out the stringers so all the steps meet code. To: Mr Aidan M. I don't sell stair kits. The deck packages are a pile of lumber that still needs to be cut. Primary focus of thedeckbarn is aluminum balusters. Which if you quit railing off on the mouth you could save a lot of money buying by knowing me. I am in this to save you money on quality products period. I flat out am sick and tired of the retail prices larger manufacturers want to impose on deck builders, most of whom are hard working guys trying to make a buck. While various greedy muck racking profiteers sit in their boadrooms and are only concerned with market share. John Hyatt: You could have a very valid point in your statement about the different areas of the country affecting products differently. To which one might surmise that this whole deal is a regional issue and there is no perfect decking for any one area. With the SA and Chinese you still have the arguements about imports, buying american etc. What I do know for as fact is that Trex works up here and so does NewTech Composite. I have built enough decks up here to know. NewTech is coming out with capstock decking and it will be available Mid March. NewTech has 4 regional warehouses, California, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Texas. It is sold in Europe, Australia, China and THE United States. They have 43 dedicated lines making decking 24/7 365. I feel your pain...two weeks ago I did too all nighters too the west coast...the last one coming home on a Saturday morning...we had all kinds of sick, hacking, coughing people...I couldn't wash my hands ENOUGH...sure enough...by memorial day I was feeling it coming on...I stayed on the couch for about 3 days...cold chills...fever..i groaned I ached so bad... After almost 36 years of skyhagging...I can tell you It's a dirty enviroment...I'm surprised I'm not sick more...but I'm really religious about not touching my face and I probably wash my hands about 17-20 times during the course of a four hour flight...i know...sounds alot doesn't it...but you can't be too careful!! I also think I've built up a pretty strong immune system because of it!! I'd try the airborne..and wiping down the seats and armrests and maybe a mask if you want to take it that far!! Also be sure to drink lots of water!! There's something to be said for keeping yourself hydrated!!

Everytime I've used it, I haven't gotten sick, so I won't be filing for a refund/settlement.

I love Airborne and I have always felt that it helped me. The things in it seem much safer than all OTC drugs. I won't be filing either.

Wow! I just chugged some last night and woke up this morning feeling better than yesterday's ick. I've taken it a couple of times, but I'm not keen on the taste- so I mix it with citrus Fresca, LOL. DH claims his Zicam is much better. I can't stand Zicam...::Shiver:: I won't file either. It seems to help me.

I went to the link that Linda provided (thanks Linda!) and read through some of it. I don't have my Airborne with me, but I don't remember that it was ever advertised as a "cure" for the common cold, as stated in the litigation. I believe it says that it helps "fight" the common cold. And I have never expected it to ease symptoms or cure a cold. But, I truly believe that when I have taken it at the first sign of a cold it has helped me actually stave it off. I think it's a ridiculous lawsuit. I will continue to take Airborne as long as it is available. Similarly, I just discovered Emergen-C. It is advertised as an immuno-boost. Ingredients similar to Airborne, with 1000 mgs of vitamin C. DH and I are taking it twice a day.

I think it is the power of positive thinking really - I don't think Airborne works- but sometimes the Placebo effect is very powerful. Heck -when I used it, I had the worst cold I ever had in my life. I tossed the stuff and vowed to never touch it again, LOL!

I also think there are going to be some lawyers getting very rich off of this.

As I recall - Airborne never said it cured a cold, either. Sheesh!

I love it and do believe it helps, but I also think Emergen-C or any vitamin would probably help by boosting your immune system a little.

I use Emergen- C (alot like airborn) and I do feel like it lifts me some. Call it positive thinking, if it helps I'll continue.

Our TV station said you need your receipts to claim refunds.

I don't know if it helps or not, but I have taken it.

Have never taken it, just take Mega doses of Vit. C when I feel a cold or the first itchiness of a sore throat and it helps every time. Used to get strep throat quite often, haven't in over 30 years since daily Vit. C and increasing to mega doses for several days if I feel a cold or sore throat coming on.

It has helped me. I took Echinecia(sp) before and it has that included with the Vitamins. I take a generic brand from Dollar General that is just as good and half price.

I have taken it, and it has helped with my allergy like symptoms of the sinuse pressure, etc, I won't be filing either. It has never claimed to be a cure, I haven't read the article since I don't follow links, can you tell me where to go to read it.

LOL! How true.

Excessive amounts of vitamin C are simply excreted from the body. Pretty expensive pee!

I'm leary of taking excessive amounts of vitamins. Now they're saying excessive amounts of Vitamin E can increase your risk of lung cancer.

Even good things should only be taken in moderation.
