Should ceiling white necessarily match wall white?

I will soon be scraping the popcorn off my ceilings, retexturing and painting. Initially when I bought the condo, I painted it all white for a couple of reasons: (1) it only gets a limited amount of light during the day, so the lighter color brightens it up a bit and (2) right after I bought, I had so much going on, the last thing I wanted to have to decide is paint colors, so I went with a safe and neutral white.

I will soon painting the living room and dining room a darker color, but will probably leave the bedrooms white, atleast for now. So, should the newly painted ceilings necessarily exactly match the white walls, or will a more off white work?
