benjamin moore wilmington tan

I'm looking for feedback on the paint color BM Wilmington Tan. Â We just had our two-story living/dining/foyer area painted with Benjamin Moore 'Honeymoon' in Aura. Â I was promised this color would not go greenish or pinkish, and, while this is true, it turned completely apricot and baby shower yellow....way too feminine. We now have to repaint the entire area (10 gallons) and I am looking for a very rich traditional British gold color. I have tried many samples, including Chestertown Buff (too yellow) and have painted a large area with our top choice of Wilmington Tan but it's really hard to tell when it lies next to the apricot 'Honeymoon'. Â Can you please tell me the color variations that you have seen in Wilmington Tan? Â Does it ever look orange or peach or fleshy or sickly green? Â We have a long skinny living/dining room with an east window and west window so it gets a blast of morning light from the east and late afternoon light from the west but the rest of the time the area can be like a dim tunnel. Â I am not looking for a pastel color, but instead a deeper rich goldish one. Â

You might get more answers on the home decorating forum. The folks on that forum are pretty knowledgeable and experienced with colors.

It seems like this paint forum is the place when discussing everything from choosing the correct paint (type), stripping, prepping as well as tools and techniques.

Just a suggestion.

Folkman, Thanks for your response. You answered the wall paint color question I had. I did find where you mentioned the tumbled marble had 00412 on the boxes and you also mentioned Antique Gold. Someone else mentioned color names noche and chiaro. I will check at HD using those names. The only other name I will wait for is the floor tile name and color. I have looked at several of the HD porcelain tiles and like them all. Some even look like marble. I just love the entire look of your bath. Did you ever take some final pictures that show your shower door and your sink faucet? Would love to see the final look. Thanks for posting your work. It is a great thread to show from beginning to end. Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my questions. This is the best forum for this kind of idea help!

I was just going to suggest something similar to antiquesilver: a fabric covered cornice that wraps around the corner. We had something similar to that in a former house and instead of blinds we had sheers on a draw rod. I guess it sounds dated but it really was a soft airy look. If we needed to cut the glare or needed to obscure the view from the outside in, we drew the sheers and light still filtered in. It was lovely. I always thought sheers were easier to care for than blinds. You just pop them into the wash! Then you can hang them back up to dry. If you didn't want to do the padded/fabric cornice then any type of fabric valance could be used for the same effect.

Amsunshine - I checked out the Waterbury Cream on the website and will look at it in the store. For paint color, I did purchase some actual paint to make up larger samples. You should have seen what I had to take down off of my wall before I could take the picture! Valinsv - The small chair in your living room picture, is it blue or green. The Wilmington Tan looks nice with it and as a reference point I wonder how your chair color compares to my sofa color. Loribee - Thanks, I hadn't thought of using the background color from the pillow. I was focusing more on the colors in the rug. I was so happy to finally get rid of the blue furniture color scheme I had before and thought it would be no problem picking a color for the wall (I have had this off white for so long). The color and sheen from the fabric on my sofa really brightened up the room. Then when I started down the road on my color quest, I was surprised at how much my northern exposure changed the paint color samples. A paint color that looks nice in a brighter light can turn dreary in my northern light.

I would never pick a color specific stone for a permanent surface that you most likely will never change. For that reason, a neutral is always the best bet. I made that mistake when I built my house many years ago and have been stuck designing around it in both my foyer, fireplace surround and master bedroom/bath. It took me 3 different paintings before I could get a color on the fireplace wall that matched my fireplace tile. Neutral, simple, classic. White, cream, gray, or beiges. You'll never struggle with decorating this way.

I've had good luck with BM decatur buff, very similar to Wilmington but slightly toned down. I used it in a large space for a client, looked very toasty, gold undertones. Good luck!
