I have a special pan for a giant cookie, but I've used a favorite oatmeal chocolate chip recipe and pressed it into a 12-inch pizza pan. You can also press Rice Krispie treats into a pizza pan and decorate it.

The Wilton Round Cookie Pan can be used for any dough, dough mix or brownie mix that calls for a standard 13x9-inch pan - so it has a variety of bases, not just cookies. The Wilton pan is 10-3/4-inches across and 1-inch deep (smaller than a 12-inch pizza pan). I'd suggest one of these pans just because it's deeper than a pizza pan.

This is the recipe from the Wilton Round Cookie Pan that makes one giant cookie.

CHOCOLATE CHIP ROUND COOKIE
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 t. vanilla
1-1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray pan with vegetable pan spray. In a large bowl, cream butter with sugars. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in chocolate dhips. Spread dough into prepared pan with spatula. Bake 15-20 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool on rack 5 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool before cutting. Decorate. Makes 8-10 servings.

I used to make giant CC Cookies for a lesson on sharing when I taught Catechism a million years ago.

You can really use any recipe, but the trick is to spread the cookie almost as big as you want it to be then thin out the middle a bit so it gets done. Here's the recipe I used:

GrandmaÂs Oatmeal Cookies
(Margaret CarstenÂs GrandmotherÂs)

5 dozen - recipe may be doubled
375º F oven

1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup shortning
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 Tablesp. water
1 teasp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teasp. baking soda
1 teasp. salt
3 cups quick Oatmeal
1 12oz bag HersheyÂs Chocolate Chips (I like to use the minis)

* Cream butter, shortning, sugars, eggs, water and vanilla.
* Mix together the flour, salt and baking soda;
add to creamed micxture and mix well.
* Add oatmeal and chips;
hand-stir these into mixture.
* Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet;
Bake at 375º F for 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown.
* Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.

Note 1 The raw dough may be made into balls and frozen. It is not necessary to defrost before baking - a little more baking time may be needed.

Note 2 A double recipe will also make 8 12 oz giant cookies.
* Divide dough into 8 equal parts.
* Spread one part into an 8" circle onto a greased cookie sheet
making the center of the circle thinner than the edges.
* Bake for about 15 minutes
* Let hardened-up a little before moving to cooling rack - but not
so long that you canÂt move it at all.

I'll third the opinion that you can use any cookie recipe you want. My mom and I used to make them on pizza pans. We'd make a huge chocolate chip cookie, frost it with a mixture of cream cheese, vanilla, sugar and whipped cream (no real measurements, you just want to make the cream cheese more spreadable and a bit sweet). Then we'd slice fruit- kiwi, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, whatever and arrange on top. Fruit pizza was a staple at our family parties when there were a bunch of kids running around! :) Good luck with your giant cookie baking!
