Just moved in, what color should I paint LR/ceilings PICTURES

When I tore down the border I found a deep green color, so I decided to paint white Blox to cover four different paint colors on the walls in the living room. We plan to put a fireplace in, and mount the tv above that. We might tear down the palm tree wall, KD is coming next week. Until those decisions are made I am painting everything one color for the holidays. In my last home I loved Old Salem Gray , now I'm thinking NEUTRAL...carpet is gray, we are installing cherry wood floors and changing trim color to white, I doubt anything will be started till after the new year. What color would you suggest ?? Berber carpet is gray tones. I have considered Manchester Tan would this be too tan for grey carpet?? I would also like to paint the vaulted ceilings. So I'm looking for a color that works with GRAY...and more importantly also with Brazilian Cherry so I don't have to repaint. Currently everything is stained oak, we will be changing trim to white. So far I tried Nantucket Gray, Camouflage, (Wethersford Moss for the sun room) and I haven't liked anything yet. Most neutrals seem to be tan, I don't think I'd like tan with the gray carpet, I'm tempted to paint Old Salem Gray again, I love gray greens, but thought I'd entertain NEUTRAL colors.

Suggestions??? For walls, and ceilings?? Thank you

I do not have any furniture or drapes for this room. PURPLE SEAT covers will be changed ASAP!! Clock has moved to another room. It is the first room you see when you walk in. Not sure if I'll choose white wood blinds or silhouettes for windows. Will need furniture suggestions when we decide if the palm tree wall is staying or coming down.

I love dry sage or desert tan from Benjamin Moore. Neutral, but they have some life to them.

I painted all the walls the same color,I matched paint similar to BM Powell Buff, a golden tan color. I will post pics. I figured golden would compliment our cherry floors we plan to install, would compliment most furniture choices and be light enough to paint over if need be in the future.

No window boxes. Your question about where to put them suggests you are not a gardener. Window boxes will require that you spend a couple of hundred dollars every spring for annuals to plant them up, unless you have the space and light to start your own plants from seed. You will be watering them once a day EVERY DAY. Boxes on the second floor will require you to lug cans of water so you can water them from inside the house through the windows. I don’t even know how you would water the big center window as it appears to be stationary. Nice looking window boxes are expensive, the little plastic ones you buy at walmart are hideous. I love windows boxes, I think they are beautiful if done well and kept healthy. I’m taking the four boxes off the front of my house this year because I don’t want to lug water and they are going to start rotting out the siding.

BM Chantilly Lace is a very neutral white. It tends to be too bright white in most homes, but it is the perfect color to compare other whites to when trying to determine the undertone. (Got this tip from Maria Killam) Color meters like the color Muse are not accurate enough to really measure very light colors and, in my experience, are not the best way to determine undertones in White. If you look at Alabaster next to Chantilly Lace you will see the pink I am talking about. Like so many other neutrals, white looks white until we paint a large area. On Trim you may never see the pink undertones. On a 100 SF ceiling it will be more obvious. If you want white and want to be safe, Cloud White is the most popular white sold by Benjamin Moore for a reason. It works with just about anything. You can sometimes do better with a bluer white if you have a light blue gray pallet or a creamier white if you have rich warm golds and oranges. But for a neutral color pallet, Cloud White is usually the answer.

Thanks! Unfortunately, this is our "forever home" for now, and I can't imagine living in it as is. If the wood were nicer, sure, but it will be tough otherwise. At the very least the window trim (which is new) will have to be painted, and the basement apartment panelling too. We overpaid for the house because it's in a great school district, so for future I don't think many individuals looking for authenticity will be interested in our area (lots of cheaper options elsewhere). The next buyers our home will attract will be young people with kids who are looking for the least expensive house in the most expensive neighbourhood, much like we were. That age group will likely want something more modern. At least that is my thinking! I would hate to devalue our home, but at the same time if it's not going to make a difference I wouldn't want to cater to a "niche" community. What do you think? Is my reasoning sound? (Really I am new to home-owning and the market so I may make some faulty assumptions).

I think your best bet is to put in larger windows or French doors. It’ll be a game changer and won’t need a lot more to pull the space together. Rug sounds nice would love to see a picture. The table is small but workable we can maybe just go with new chairs and new chandelier and curtains

With the gray carpet, cool colors would probably work best - green, blue, purple, mauve to blend in. For accents, red and burgundy look great with gray.

Silver sage or a silvery blue are pretty. Check out SW Svelte Sage, Samovar Silver or Krypton (or the other colors on those strips).

Or just paint the walls gray (which I'm reading is the current color trend) and spice things up with accent pieces in brighter colors.
