Urinary Tract Infections

Does anyone have a dog that has frequent urinary tract infections? Mine has been getting quite a few lately, and I hate putting her through the whole bladder thing (where the vet turns her on her back...which she HATES...and sticks a needle in her bladder to get a urine sample). I guess the next time I suspect an infection I'll try to get the sample myself - or will that make it non-sterile? Is there a way to get a sterile sample at home? I guess I can ask my vet.

So now here we go again with another round of antibiotics. I really don't like giving her antibiotics so frequently. Does anyone know of anything I can do to avoid these UTI's? Should I do the same thing a human would do (cranberry juice)? I asked the vet and as much as I respect him and trust him, he said there's nothing I can really do to prevent these. I hope that's not true.

Thanks in advance,

Gabi
