They will be holding a Cooking School tomorrow at the local high school. I am so excited to go. Last year i went with my GF and we had a blast. We didnt really learn anything that we didnt already know. However it was still alot of fun. At the end they raffled off many bags filled with grocerys. They also raffled floweres and candles. The kicker was they raffled so much stuff that almost everyone would win. We'll except me and my GF. We began laughing so loud because i said they would be raffling off the ceiling fan and we still would NOT win. And we didnt!

Has anyone else gone?

I was supposed to go two years ago when it was in our city, but I couldn't get off from work to attend. My friend that I was supposed to go with ended up going with her mother. She said they had a great time.

I went about 5 years ago. Was so excited that they finally came to my state. Not just to my state, but only about 2 miles from my front door.

Biggest waste of time and $13 I ever spent.

The auditorium was huge but still crowded--over 1000 people, so it was next to impossible to really see what was happening waaayyyyyy up there on the stage. There were maybe 50 or so door prizes, so most didn't get anything. It was advertised that there would be samples and booths--yeah--booths of people selling things at exhorbitant prices.

I've heard others had better experiences, but based on the time I went, I'd never waste my money to go back. Only good thing was, the recipe featured on the front of the booklet they were giving out that year, was one of my friends' recipes. Now THAT was nice to see.

Thank you, thank you, thank you -------- everyone! I was just trying to add a little more fun to a few everyday dishes. Let's start with the strawberries. As I said, inspired by Ann, but with a little modification on my part. I used half cream cheese and half whipped cream because I like cream with strawberries better. I did not use vanilla, I am not sure vanilla is compatible with strawberries. The sprinkle is dark chocolate. I think chocolate should not compete with the strawberries and should act as a "seasoning" instead. The wild rice was steamed in Zongzi Grass leaves. Zongzi Grass leaves, not bamboo leaves as they are called by some, have been used to steam rice in the Far East for centuries. They impart a very nice flavor to rice. The ravioli: Well made ravioli should have very thin skin; however, I like pasta, so how do you make ravioli with more pasta? If I make ravioli with wide fringes, that would make them look kind of clumsy. So I came up with this idea as well home-made myself a cutter that would give me thin skinned ravioli and more pasta to go with the sauce. It also kind of makes the ravioli intriguing looking. dcarch

beeohio, I was thinking the same thing...this actually happened to my husband and me a few years ago. We were bombarded with magazine subscriptions and mail order catalogs some of a very questionable content. The hoax was perpetrated by my husband's EX. I bet that you may have registered at the Taste of Home website and that's how you got it? Could this be the case? Either way, just contact them and tell you did not order it and you have no idea how they got the idea to send it to you. We had to call every single time we got something and tell them that someone was going around the internet signing us up without our knowledge. They really have zero safeguards against this sort of thing happening! Really anyone can sign you up for something without your consent.

Yes, I always taste......no matter what you are using the taste is never the same, especially canned items. Even my home canned items......I always follow the recipe the first time and then if I want to experiment I will but the first time is exactly by the book........ I am always amazed at the people who look for or even ask for a recipe and you give it to them and they say , I made it exactly like the recipe except I used old bay instead of paprika, or flour instead of cornmeal or milk instead of water......I mean if you are going to make up your own recipe why ask me to go to the trouble of giving you my tried and true........

Redcurls, that's why I stipped getting Taste of Home when Reiman's Publishing had it. We got renewal notices all the time. Besides being a waste of paper, Harry was paying the bills back then and when he saw the notice that said, "This may be your last issue" or something similar, he'd send a check. I looked at the expiration date and we had over 3 years left. They just kept adding on the extra $$. We also got Quick Cooking, Remininsce, Country, and Country Extra. Quit them all because of their renewal policy. Too bad. We enjoyed them.

I went one time and I have to say other than the free food tasting before the show, it was very boring and way too long.

They were held three times in a town where I used to live. I went all three times and really enjoyed them. Got a large "goodie' bag with small kitchen tools, samples, coupons and recipes. Our auditorium held 400 people and there was a drawing for over 200 door prizes each time, and each time the guests I took, won one of the prizes and I left empty handed. It was still fun and would like to have gone to more, but the T.O.H Cooking schools became so popular, they didn't consider our facility large enough. They would only hold them in larger venues. The one my daughter and I went to was the same as the one Azzalea went to, without the booths! It was in Vancouver WA, it was mega overcrowded. We sat in gym bleachers wondering about ever getting out if there was a fire. Never again... What a waste of time and the recipes sure were not anything special.

How fun...I had never heard of them before. I do however collect the Taste of Home cookbooks and magazines. I just looked it up and they don't have anything in Calif. :O(

Yes I went and I enjoyed it...It is really pretty good entertainment but not a lot of culinary skill is involved. I won a plate of hot sandwiches that they had cooked in one of the segments...The sandwiches were good, the plate they were on I really loved.
