What's in YOUR refrigerator?

Interesting website below that asks people to post pictures of what's in their refrigerators.

I think we actually did this here once many moons ago and it was fun.

So, I'm curious, anybody want to post a picture of the inside of their fridge here?

(glad the digital camera isn't working, so nobody can see my messy fridge and the seemingly 10-gallon jug of crappy store-bought salad dressing that my son uses on anything he doesn't like the taste of!)

Here is a link that might be useful: Fridgewatcher

Mine is virtually empty except for a few juice cartons for the g-kids & a few condiments. I've got 4 cartons of yogurt, about 1/2 lb. of cheddar, 8 eggs, & 2 of those jello/fruit cup things. Oh, I've also got a few bottles of Diet Snapple (Peach) & about 2/3 of a half-gallon of 2% milk.

The freezer has about six ice bags for my jaw, 4-5 pints of Ben & Jerry's for DH, & 1/4 bag of Nibblets corn that should have been tossed six months ago. Oops, just checked & there's a Rosemary Chicken Lean Cuisine that's pre-broken jaw era & should be pitched.

It's costing a lot to run since the efficiency is reduced when it's empty. Another reason I'll be glad to eat again.

It's just a basic whirlpool gold, French door. No water, just an ice maker. It's not counter depth...so just your typical fridge size. We had the contractor build out the cabinets next to it a bit so it wouldn't stick out into the room so far. So, nothing fancy, but works for us! And the finish is great...cleans so easily and doesn't look dirty quickly.

Hi, fivefootzero! My RF is a Samsung RF4287HARS. It stands in testimony to the fact that the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. :-) First, the pic: I really, really wanted to put the RF here because the move would net me significant usable countertop space and cabinet storage. I measured widths, depths, heights, arcs, angles -- you name it. I haven't thought so mathematically since getting that F in calculus so many years ago, but I digress. My calculations suggested that it would *just* fit. But you guessed it -- I forgot to account for the countertop overhang. The door opens wide enough that I can pull the crisper drawer out for cleaning, but yes, it can hit that countertop (on the standard cab, not the bumpout). That Lazy Susan base corner cabinet is 36" wide. A filler of 1-2" would have prevented my problem, had I foreseen it. I will say, however, that I wouldn't change the placement of my RF, in spite of this snafu. Let me know if you want more info on the RF, btw.

    What is Your Refrigerator/Freezer Temp?

I have a thermometer in the freezer; it's zero or a tad below. (You have to let a pint of Ben & Jerry's sit out for a couple minutes before you can dish it out.) I haven't tested the fridge side for awhile, but it's probably about 35F. (I'm going to move the thermometer there now and find out. Should do that from time to time.) I think it's OK because our milk and half & half keep well.

I was once a devotee of GE appliances, mainly because my parents owned a small-town appliance and furniture store when I was growing up. That is what we had always and of course when I married I could get a good deal on anything I needed. They sold the business when they were ready to retire, and of course we now know GE isn’t what it used to be, although some GE products are very good mid-range lines. Their stoves, from what I read, are still very good. Other appliances are about the same, and I think you have to do your research and not be stuck in the ‘suite of appliances’ mode to get the best fit or performance for your needs. Unfortunately many ‘repair or replace’ studies have shown that the replacement time is much shorter than it used to be with large appliances, TVs, etc.

LOL! Proof that America truly is a nation of voyeurs and exhibitionists. :)

Ok, am I the only person who doesn't like "stuff" all over the front of appliances? I have one magnetic pad for the grocery list, and even that bugs me.

Hmm...fridge is pretty empty right now of "real" food.
V8 juice, apple cider, tea, a small bottle of really awful TreeTop grapefruit juice (I keep trying every brand I find looking for one that tastes like the Noble I can't get anymore), mayo, peanut butter, two kinds mustards, pepperoncini, a honkin' huge jar of dill pickles, roasted red peppers, tortillas, aged cheddar and mixed shredded cheeses, sour cream (that probably needs to go), butter, tofu, leftover spaghetti, a can of root beer (when did I ever buy root beear???), soy milk, red curry paste, Patak Korma sauce, Che cha chicken and ranch dressings, tahini paste, orange ginger marmalade, celery, carrots, a cucumber and half an onion. There was applesauce, but I'm eating that now.

Well, good I did that because now I have my grocery list prepared for next week.

Kathy, Yes! although she drives me crazy sometimes and I don't usually even open the mail. I don't want to know any more about outer space or what Ian's been up to...or whoever he is. LOL

Everytime I see that freezer with the labels on it, it cracks me up. I don't think I've ever seen the door picture. You are way too organized...will you do my pantry for me? lol

Tricia, you can't even eat the Ben & jerry's? I don't know how you do it. Amazing what you've been through.

Beanthere, I used to not have stuff on the outside, but it's getting cluttered these days. Artwork display. :)

(I never put peanut butter in the fridge...do others do that?)

Lori, it's Adam's peanut butter, and I'm too lazy to keep stirring the oil back into it. Keeping it in the fridge keeps it from separating.

Kathy - when you are finished with Lori's pantry, could you help me with my office?

"Contains upside down ketchup" Those Heinz labels crack me up.

    Lori,

My relationship with food has changed dramatically in the past year (as has my waist size!). I buy the same things week after week because I don't even care about variety...eat only because I have to or I get sick with my meds. It'll be interesting to see what happens when I get the go-ahead to chomp away? Other than my salad, I'm not craving anything.

Can ya believe I haven't had a CC cookie in a year?! Oh, DH eats Chunky Monkey or Cherry Garcia both of which have chunks I can't swallow whole. And, to make it worse...I don't even like ice cream. Oh well.

A bunch of containers I'm askeered to open. I *must* clean out my frig.

But that would mean taking out the garbage and having to wash all the containers.

Guess it'll wait for another millenium.

    *laughs*

I keep peanut butter in the frig so the oil doesn't separate, too, Bean!

I can't believe how organized your frig and freezer are, Cathy! No way am I putting up pics now. The frig is even worse than my closets (although the rest of the house is orderly, it's those darn closets!)

Right now it's jam packed, I don't even know half of what's in there, soda, seltzer, OJ, Ice tea, milk, loads of vegetables, sauces, jams, cold cuts, cheeses, I do more adding than taking away! I know one thing, I just added a load of meyer lemons, they're back at Trader Joe's!

If anyone needs help it's me.... lol

And I haven't started my Thanksgiving shopping....

    Rita

Rita, you're in good company! We both need Cathy to come and ORGANIZE us! Ironically I did clean out a few things this morning and tonight. I'm sick of all those darn containers. I've been having more tummy issues than usual lately, so we're not doing much cooking or entertaining. And so the containers just pile up. Like the canola margarine that contains WHEY (milk product). What the heck do I do with that now? I finally discovered a product at TJ's that doesn't so now I have two in the fridge plus DH's butter! Etc...

One more tip- take it fwiw- a friend in the medical field is taking the rec of a very prominent gastroenterologist who's advising folks to keep ALL peanut butter in the fridge after opening. Some of the researchers are investigating the link between the growth of the normal mold than inhabits the peanut butter and how it affects the body. As I said, take it FWIW.

Mine is pretty empty right now, waiting for the Thanksgiving holiday leftovers. I do have milk, eggs, butter, some apple cider I just pressed today, vegetables for salad, and condiments. Oh, and some cheese, three pears and a bottle of fish sauce for Sol's caramel chicken.

I never put peanut butter in the refrigerator, and I guess I'm not going to start, I'm picky about texture and I eat peanut butter by the spoonful, not on bread.

R, I have so much stuff on the front of my refrigerator! I started with magnets of everywhere I'd been, and then people started buying me magnets everywhere they'd been, thinking I "collected" magnets. Who the heck would collect magnets just to collect them, LOL? I have artwork from Makayla and Bruvver, Ashley's class reminders, some magnet/words that Ashley uses to write poetry or leave messages like "My Mom is beautiful". Gotta keep those.

Organize my refrigerator? Nah, that would take all the fun out of reaching into the darkness and never knowing what I'd find. (grin) Oh yeah, did I mention that the light doesn't work and I'm not going to fix it. I just don't even want to see.....

Rita, there still a little room on the bottom shelf on the door of the freezer, LOL!

Good point Annie, I had better make way for Thanksgiving prep and leftovers.

That web site is hilarious. It looks like mayonnaise, wine nd beer cross all cultures. I can't believe I just sat and looked at the insides of fridges for 15 minutes. Very entertaining.

One of the "to do" items on my list was clean out the fridge. It didn't happen. Mine is a jumbled mess of takeout containers at the moment. After I tidy up, I'll post a picture.

Cathy, you are sick! No designated spot for chicken?

Dedtired, What are you thinking, of course there is a designated bin for chicken, it's just not captured in the picture. Just as you can't see the labeled drawers in the fridge for Deli, Salad, and Vegetables.

If I could post a picture of mine it looks just like Rita's! Some of my neighbors and friends have lots of space in their fridges, sometimes entirely empty shelves. I can't figure out how they eat! Mine is probably over the top. We currently have 8 different preserves, 12 different BBQ sauces, several different olives, pickles and relishes, and untold numbers of other condiments, at least 20 ethnic condiments alone. If someone nearby needs something they call me, it is probably in my fridge! Oh yes, there are also 15 different cheeses! Sometimes I have a hard time getting the milk in. For holidays I have to borrow space in my neighbors fridges so I can fit the holiday food in my fridge. They don't mind though, I tell them to use whatever they like while it is there!

I do hate having stuff hanging on the door, it looks so cluttered. But since my son is a Senior this year, there are dozens of paper stuck to the fridge door. It will be such a relief when I can remove all the college stuff after he picks his school. And once he goes to college, maybe I can empty my fridge out a bit! I only like 2 of those BBQ sauces!

    "let alone her fridge"

    You're now on my list...

    I'm a guy.

Michael, I was wondering how that was going to sit with you!

    Let's see....
A BIG turkey defrosting..home made, pickles (bread & butter and dill), Ann's salsa, various condiments, organic milk, OJ, V8, tomato juice, veggies, leftover minestrone soup (homemade of course), vanilla fig jam (yum), eggs, butter, sour cream, cream cheese, etc. and on and on....

    Linda

"Michael, I was wondering how that was going to sit with you!"

Eh, no biggie at all. It's not as if it's easy to tell by my user name, and there aren't exactly a lot of guys here... :-)

Not much in my fridge after yesterday!

I spent some time doing a thorough cleaning, meaning taking all the shelves, drawers, etc. apart and getting all the nooks and crannies. I threw out a lot of stuff, particularly stuff that lasts indefinitely but that I haven't used in forever. (Exactly how long is indefinitely? Kimchi, for example. No idea when I used that last.) I gotta say it's nice having a clean slate to start restocking! It made me wonder how often the average person does a real thorough cleaning.

Freezer will have to wait; I know it will force me to make stock and I just couldn't get around to it this weekend.

Hmmmm... bailey's, grape pucker, red bull, piesporter goldtropfchen, and a lone can of pbr.

Cool stuffs... pickled deer heart with chicken gizzards, saurkraut stuffed bannana peppers, and pickled asparagus spears. Next spring the asparagus spears are getting some oil and italian spices in the pickle juice.

About ten bottles of hot sauce for hot stuffs. The usual capers, olives, and pickled onions. The mayo expired in 2002 and I should probably throw it away. On garbage day I make a pass in the fridge. Sometime I need to check expiration dates and pitch the old stuff. Cooking up last years eggs and feeding them to Dolly dog as a treat.

A few Ida Reds rolling around in the bottom drawer. I like them cold. Do the same with granny smiths when Idas are out of season.

I thought all the gals here knew a k-frame was Smith & Wesson's medium weight revolver frame. Not many female gun nuts in the world. I don't know if Lyra counts as a gun nut as she is one of my imaginary personalities. Aren't all personalities imaginary? If not how would we grow and become a better person? If it changes at will it must be imaginary. That reminds me... I keep some of my meds in the fridge.

My cabbage head went bad before I could use it all so it will hit the compost pile this week. A package of bacon going on the stove right now before it gets away. A couple chunks of green meat... hmm? Work is giving me a turkey on Tuesday so I need to make some room. I don't remember buying that half & half... must have been drinking scotch. Need to add half & half to my grocery list as scotch and milk sounds pretty good this morning. I din't get up till afternoon so it is still morning in my book.

I'd do pictures but my software is not installed on this computer yet. Reminds me I need to fix my old computer so I can get at my tax records... that time of year being on the horizon. Maybe tonight when I get home from work.

    : )

Michael - Thanks for clearing up the Lyra mystery. I've been trying to figure that one out for a while.

As for Scotch and milk, although I like them both I don't see that combination hitting my "to try" list!

Sorry Michael! I get you and another K-name mixed up. Usually I check other posts where you've signed your name before I hit submit... but my boss walked up!! But now that Bunnyman has given me the reference, I'll remember... not that the Smith & Wesson precluded gender, either... (Thanks both Michael and Lyra for that).

I guess I'm really staying away from your fridge...

    Forgive me?
