In the scheme of the whole house the extra money isn't that much. I say go for it. We have them in two doors (one full and one half glass). Had I known at the time that I could have gotten them in the four sets of french doors and our full glass entry door I would have gone ahead and got them. Any other blind option will be harder to keep clean.

I guess the question might be more or less about cost, but rather about function/looks. Do people like curtains or blinds better then blinds better?

Drapes for sliders have been a genuine pain for me.

For one, it would be best to have a single wide panel. These are not readily available in good variety.

So I have a pair of panels that both draw to the left. They are pinch pleats hung on a traverse rod with rings, and the stack back is 42"!!!. Do you have that much wall space on the stationary side of your slider? If not, you will be blocking the light even when the drapes are open.

If you don't get the blinds will you be forced into a decorating decision due to the need for privacy or a dislike of black glass at night? I'd rather not be forced into choosing fabric before I'm ready. I'd get the blinds.

Also, I like to layer windows, but it's hard to layer a sliding glass door. With the built-in blinds you have a built-in first layer.

You didn't ask, but if I had a choice between french doors and a sliding doors I'd take the french door in a heartbeat. A center opening is so much easier to work with, and you can attach sheers or blinds directly to the doors, which really opens up the options.

Izerarc, Blinds all about light control for me. I still have other window treatments to add softness around all my doors and windows, but love the light control one has with blinds over any other form of window treatment.

thanks for the feedback. It was exactly what I was looking for. I am thinking we will go with the blinds in the glass. I talked with my rep today, and what we will do is order the door with just the triple pane, and we can add the blinds later whenever we want. This way we can decide on what blinds we want for the rest of the house or room, and then match them up to what they offer and install them then.

The view out the back is basically of the back yard and woods, so privacry is not that big of a concern at all. Wife wants them for "sense of security" reasons, which is fine. (no one likes to think someone is looking in at you!)

We chose a slider because we like the function of them and the ability to have it part of the way open to vent as opposed to a french door. We have a french in our current house and do not like it.

I disagree that curtains on sliders should be on one side. I have had that but currently have panels that are on both sides (pull to the middle to close) and like that much better. You just extend the rod beyond the doors far enough that the panels are out of the way of the door when they are open. You don't get a lopsided look (with a huge stack of fabric) that way.
