Sliding Panel Blinds for Patio Door
Comments (5)I dont blame you for not wanting to block the view but then yes, since sliders are centered on wall it will no longer be if bar extends only on one side so blinds can be pulled off window. What a bout a curtain rod thats centered while also extending beyond the left/ right of window so curtains opened will be in front of wall, not blocking view. We replaced our vertical blinds with curtains after seeing it on a neighbors sliders - got panels with built in top rings so easy to slide them open / closed. Dining rooms dont have a lot of options for fabric to warm up the room like bedrooms/ living rooms have. Liked how curtains soften the feel of dining room too. Plus my own quirk but when I see vertical blinds, cant help but think they give look of being in an apartment. Lived in plenty of them so not being snobby, just not a fan of it. On them, we...See MoreMaking curtain rod for sliding patio door - conduit, closet rod
Comments (19)Think about hotel rooms. They so often have a room-width black-out curtain ... and behind it a thin sheer ... and usually some type of non-moveable header (either cloth or wood) ... and they pull open so nicely. While staying in a hotel a year or so ago, I decided that's exactly what I want, so I took a good look at the hardware involved. Hotels have ceiling mounted tracks. Something like this: This ceiling-mounted curtain track can be supported every 2-3 feet, eliminating any possibility of sagging rods as years go by. You can cut them to fit your dimensions, and they're even available in around-the-corner styles. The negatives, of course, are that you'll need floor-to-ceiling curtains, and you'll probably have to do some sewing adjustments to the curtains yourself. Still, I'm going to do this in my bedroom, where I expect to open/close the drapes frequently. I wouldn't do it in, say, the dining room, where I'm going to use plantation shutters and curtains that'll essentially never move....See MoreVertical Blinds with Curtain, over sliding glass doors
Comments (3)Do you use the doors at all? I would use whatever decorative draperies or other window coverings that would look nice in your room and hang an outdoor shade, remote controlled, to block the sun and/or the view. I got one of these through Costco and it is very effective at blocking the sun/heat, but filtering the light so the room doesn't look too dark. I can see out in the daytime, but if there was anyone who had a view to that window, they could see in at night (it doesn't block that). But that's what I'd use my indoor draperies for. Sun setter blinds Can you do a drapery that pulls all the way to one side on a traverse rod, or that you can pull manually if they are mounted on rings? Comments (4)We've had three 45 " wide x 80" tall PELLA doors/windows with internal blinds - one sliding door flanked by two matching windows. I use them frequently. Up for full glass, down and flat, at a slant or fully closed depending on the sunlight. They've been in for almost 9 yrs. with no problems. I don't think changing the blind would be a problem, the interior glass is a panel that swings open if necessary. Very well insulated and they block exterior sound. And I don't have to dust them....See MoreJamie
