We must have been posting at the same time...... Sable - he does wheeze during his coughing attack. Luckily my FIL is a doc & he has come by daily to check his lungs. That is great about your son taking care of his own meds.....shoot, I'm just trying to get this boy to remember to brush his teeth daily when he wakes up!! Golddust - he has a major sinus infection now. They did a CT scan & showed the cavities or rather not showing the maxillary cavity b/c it is so congested. Segbrown - I am glad Flonase is working for you. My DH uses that also. We are using inhalers that have the fine powder that comes out - he was having a difficult time knowing when to inhale & push the inhaler. I find myself wanting to twist & cock the inhaler for him but he has to be able to do it himself & he does. Total fluke about getting tested for allergies.....I had an appointment b/c of a rash on my arm. Asthma doc & FIL worked together many years ago so FIL tells me to take my DS with me to my appointment just to make sure he was not missing anything. So, I call to ask if I can bring my son & Dr. says yes. Well, after they did that testing on his back - my rash was never mentioned!! I am so grateful that we took him and had him tested b/c this explains so much. I am totally rambling but I really appreciate the support. Smiles:)

Given the age, it's probably kennel cough. Sometimes it takes 3 different antibiotics to get rid of it. KC can be stubborn. My puppy had it when I brought her home from the breeder. It turned into pneumonia ( I insisted on a chest x-ray, because I felt rales when I carried her outside. The vets didn't hear anything! I got 2 opinions. Go figure.). Her pneumonia looked weird. Sort of like she could have aspirated something. Anyway, I think she was on 3-4 different antibiotics, before she got 100% better. It took almost a month to eradicate it. Granted, she was only 9 weeks old, and probably around puppies with KC, at the breeder's. Let's hope that's all it is. A dog should not be coughing...Things with heart, lungs, tumors....all come to mind in a mid-older age dog coughing. I think you can bring KC home to your dogs on your clothes, or they can pick it up in the park. That's why if your dog is not immunized for KC, you shouldn't play with puppies at the pet stores...

Kate I am so sorry for your loss. I do not have pets, but I have in the past and I know how they are part of the family. My daughter has a 'zoo' and they have a small party business. When they moved the pink corn snake that belonged to my granddaughter got sick and died. My granddaughter was so sad amd some of her friends made fun of her but you do get attached to your pets regardless of the type. Rosa

Hello everyone. I thought I'd give you an update on Wuji. I took him in for some more tests about a week and a half ago and we found out he was severely anemic. The vet upped his steroid and gave me some Petinic. The next day after the adjusted meds, I got my Wuji back! He is now eating, playing and even sassing (playfully) his sister. He hasn't done those things in 2 months. He is a lot harder to give his meds to though. When I stick the syringe in his mouth and give him his meds, he just stares at me and refuses to swallow. I've tried to rub his throat but it's still a no go. He waits till the meds slide out his mouth and down his face. I don't know how long he will stay like this but we are so glad his days are now happy.It looks like we get a little more time with him than I thought.
