Identity Theft

Both my daughters have recently been victims of identity theft. Older daughter (23) recently filed her 2011 federal income tax return. Unable to process it online, IRS said someone else had ALREADY filed a return with her Social Security number. So she filled out paper form and mailed in. Recently got a letter from IRS that her return is being processed "under review" so she will not get her refund (a whopping $71) for at least 6 weeks. Other daughter (22) got her credit card bill and saw about $200 in charges she did not recognize-two gas fillups and a $70 purchase at Sams Club, all in Tampa Florida. She has visited Florida but NEVER in Tampa. She called her credit card company and they closed the account and opened a new one for her. Neither one knows how their identities were stolen. Both incidents are being investigated. Very interesting, huh?
