Funcolors! Wherefor art thou? Here be my new house paint job

Hey everyone:

Funcolors (and squirrel and others) helped me when I was trying to decide what colors to use for my exterior paint job this summer. Funcolors mocked up a few images for me that really helped. Well, it's now done, and a couple of people asked me to post the results. So...here's the old paint:

The roof still looks lousy, but we're getting a re-roof in two weeks. We're also going to add white cap flashing across the top of the trim to match all the other thin white accents all over the place and help create depth.

Took a month for two coats delivered by one brush and one roller. Now all we need to do is choose the color of our new roof. We've chosen Malarkey "Legacy" shingles because I really like how they're made. But if any of you have color ideas, please fire away!

Thanks again to all. We've had a ton of compliments and several people ask which colors we used. Nice feeling.

I painted my house all by myself too. Twice. Nothing like the job you just pulled off tho! Holy cow. It really is stunning. I'm not familiar with Malarkey (the shingles :~D), so I can't say much about the colors. I see the lamp post stayed, it looks super in the darker, accent color -- love the addition of the darker accent color, nice touch.

The curb appeal is phenomenal. Thanks so much for posting back with "afters".

Funcolors, so cool that you're still here. Thanks for the help, man. I think it was you who originally suggested the dark trim. And you even remembered the lamp post. I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of the relic, so a little Rust-o-leum and voila.

Malarkey is based in Oregon, just a couple hundred miles south of here, and its shingles are highly thought of here in the wet west. Did oodles of research and couldn't find much at all in the way of complaints.

Hairspray and WD40? That's why I love this forum, you can always learn something. I like the piece in front of the grass too but we're currently under a high wind warning, are coming into Spring (more high winds) and that side of the house gets hammered when it blows. So after things calm down in about 6 weeks (at least) the piece will probably live by the grass. BTW: in case you're interested the grass is Muhlenbergia rigens, it's just a baby, only a year old. My DH even likes the piece. He's usually very...tolerant but not enthusiastic but he carted it around the yard for me so I could take the pictures. He thinks it looks good by the grass too. Wow.

I hope it's not lost! I did send it Media Mail though ... the US postal service equivalent of Slow Boat to China. However, it was only going about 30 miles and within the same state! Perhaps it will surface soon.

Update - Well this has been quite the ordeal. I decided I would prefer the frames to be wood tone rather than painted. Since I knew I definitely didn't want the white, I figured, I would sand, stain, and if I didn't like the result, I could always sand again and paint the dark gray as discussed above. I started sanding and figured out this wasn't ordinary white paint, it was plastic-y and very thick. The effort required, and the end result wasn't going to be worth it. So now I just had a ruined white frame I didn't want to take back to my framer due to both expense and embarrassment at ruining his work. I went online and found a DIY framing site and bought the framing moldings cut to size. This only cost about $100, so I figured it was worth the price to not have to face my framer w my mangled frame. My handyman installed the frames while I was away, and it turned out really well! I'm still not absolutely in love with how these look. I think the green is too intense, just too much. But they do look 100% better, and will live with them. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

This OP has posted several dilemmas lately. I started reading this one from the onset and yes, there are several of the more critical posts missing. She clearly was happy about the selections and appeared to want validation from the people that had helped her with her other dilemmas. One of the first comments on my first dilemma on here was devastating to me and left me very upset. Fortunately, I have a thick skin and just flagged it and then along came some wonderful people to help me. Sometimes certain contributors just go too far. Yeah, me and your lamp post have a lot in common. I've been around here a long time, not goin' anywhere any time soon either even tho I'm spending a lot more time on Twitter these days.
