I am so sorry for what you are going through, just having gone through it last Feb. It is terrible to see your baby suffer and when you try to help and can't, it is even worse. thesunnyone_2007 I'm so sorry for your loss!! I went through this about 3 years ago and its still hard. The only thing that got me through it was loving on my other babies and knowing our sweet Pearl was with the rest of our family up in heaven. My Grandma is up there and Pearl LOVED her!! So after she passed we were happy for Pearl because she had Grandma back!! Just always keep thinking about the fun & I'm sure wacky times with your sweet Bonnie!! She is an Angel now, watching down on you from above!! :-) Everytime I refer to our Pearl now, I say "Our Angel". This is something that I really know alot about, unfortunately, I have alot of loved ones in heaven including my 32 year old brother who just passed on August 25th 2006. Try to hang in there sunnyone and if I can do anything including just talking just email me. I would be happy to help you.

Just like mboston said, whenever you can...would you let us know what happened to her?? She was so young!! And as for that vet...huh...they should be ashamed to call themselves an animal vet (supposed to love animals and care about them). Vets like that should not be in the business. I'm so sorry you had such a horrible thing happen to you today!!!

I lost my best friend of 10 years and 12 days early Tuesday morning. I know how deep and raw the pain and grief are for you right now.

It seems as if we will never be able to get past it, but we owe it to our friends to do so as a memorial to the joy that they brought us.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Our beloved black lab Onyx(hence my username)died just over a year ago and I still feel the loss. I know this will not make your grief any less, but it helped me to tell myself that our little Onyx was healthy and happy up in doggy heaven, and that all of her pain was now gone (our little one died of brain cancer). I also know that our dogs are all up in heaven watching over us and helping to keep us safe. Please know that everyone here feels your loss and I am thinking of you in your time of sorry.

Sunny, My heart goes out to you, having lost several little ones thru the years.
The loss and pain will get better as time goes by tho we always take a little of it with us the rest of our lives. We can look forward to seeing them again someday.

Many thanks to all of you. I knew I could bring my heartbreak here and you would understand. After Bonnie died I had to go to the emergency room because of a roaring migraine caused by crying so hard. The nurse asked what brought on the migraine and I told her my little dog died. She got this amused puzzled look on her face and I felt she had never experienced the death of a beloved pet or a migraine.

Bonnie was pregnant with 6 puppies. A large litter for a Yorkie. I had a bad feeling about this pregnancy from the beginning, as she was half sick the whole time. Since the first ultrasound showed 6 puppies, I took her in weekly for additional ultrasounds so we could stay ahead of problems. We took her in the first sign of labor to get another ultrasound. During the 18 hour labor we took her in again, and the vet was getting impatient with us. The first puppy presented, and after 30 minutes of waiting for him to be completely born we called the vet. She said give her calcium so we did. 20 minutes later we called her again because the puppy was still only partly out and she met us at her office to give her a shot of calcium. She said dogs have puppies as nature intended, to leave her in a warm room and let her do it. I checked on her often, and when the first pup was out bonnie seemed to be paralyzed. We called the vet again, and met her at the office. They did an immediate caesarean and spay, and shortly afterward afterward Bonnie died of blood loss. I am going to have my male Yorkie neutered, but not by this vet. I never want to look into those little tear filled eyes again and not be able to help. Bonnie trusted me til the end. It will take a long tinme to get over this, it was horrible and unnecessary. Thanks for understanding.

Oh, how horrible. I am assuming the puppies didn't make it either? We have been very fortunate to have wonderful vets for our animals. My daughter in law works for a vet and has worked for a couple others. One was well known and liked throughout the community but she felt he catered to the wealthy clients and that he wasn't as good as many thought. The other two she has worked for she thinks are very caring and do what is best for the animals. One of those two happens to have been our vet now for 20+ years.

Just take it a day at a time, feel free to come back and share your feelings as often as you need too. The place you have in your heart for Bonnie will always be there and no one can take your memories of her away from you. give your self time to grieve and make sure the rest of your family does too.

There are many posts about losing pets. I found great comfort going back to those from time to time. I am sending you a big hug right now!

mboston, the puppies all died. And to add insult to injury we got a vet bill today for almost $400.oo. I am sure she gave us a discount, but it still rankles. Raising Yorkies supplemented our social security income, but I would rather do without than put another dog through this. We waited for Bonnie's 3rd season to breed her, but it went bad from the beginning. Thank you for your kind words.

The least the vet could have done was wait a few weeks before sending the bill. when we lost our Chelsea, nothing was even mentioned about paying for having her put down. I ended up calling about a month later to find out the cost. I don't know if I would have been billed or not.

You obviously have gone through pregencies with others. Maybe right now isn't the time to make the decision to not do it again. For whatever reason things went wrong, it most likely won't happen again. You know you won't go back to this vet even for your male dog.

You tried to get help for her. Don't shoulder the guilt yourself.

Oh Sunny - I'm very sorry. How awful that you could recognize your dogs pain and the vet could not.

Sunny, one thing I would suggest...

Contact the state licensing board and file a formal complaint against the vet's office.

My Mother got a vet's license yanked in Pennsylvania some years ago because of malpractice that resulted in the needless death of a family companion.

It wasn't the only thing, but it was the final straw as far as Pennsylvania was concerned.

Sunny, I had to put down my 15 year old Lab on the 16th, not even 2 weeks ago. I truly understand what you're feeling. After a couple of days I began to feel better, but I "lost it" a week later when we gave away her food and bedding. The other day we got a card from the vet and I cried again. On Tuesday we are supposed to get her remains and I know that will be another tough day. It is getting easier with each passing hour. You just hang in there. Your baby is in a better place.

Sonny, I am so sorry for your heartbreaking grief. All of us here bear scars (or will) of this sort. But even though they hurt forever, I wouldn't have traded "the time" for anything. .. and I bet none would. You will get stronger as time goes on. As for others: the hospital lady is to be pitied. You are right, she probably has never known this kind of love. When my beloved Born left me, his vet warned me about people that would have the reaction you got. (And I did see plenty of them.) As for the heartless and incompetent vet - yes, DO report them...you might be saving someone elses "beloved". My thoughts and prayers are with you.
