Bad Day

Got laid off today, after 14 years with the company. So now will have to refocus energies. Hubby told me this morning before I left for work, that his job may be eliminated as well. So not a good day for me or us. Not much out there for jobs locally, or even further afield, so will have to do some traveling, I am sure.

So if you can send positive thoughts this way, they would be welcomed.

But for today, just think I will do some housework and cooking to keep myself occupied.

Keep yourself occupied and don't dwell on the negative. It sounds like an old song doesn't it? Focus on the old "one day at a time"....... remember to be thankful for your health and your family. Fingers crossed things will work out for you and yours.

We had 2 big lay-offs 7 months apart. Last one being 3
weeks ago. I hear another one will be coming in June. So
manny people have been effective by these economic times.
    Hang in there!!

Our Daughter lost her job after 14 years too.
She looks at it as (There is a reason)and better things
will come along. She is very positive.
Keep your chin up, be positive and good things will come your way.

Just try and remember that when God closes one door, He opens a window. Someone gave me a plaque with those words on it after my husband died and I have always found that to be true. We just have to have faith and believe better things are on their way. I know it's hard to be optomistic right now but remember we are all in your corner. In December 2007, I lost my job of 10 years. I looked for work for 6 months and was very depressed and was feeling as if I would never find another job. But, last June, the best job I have ever had came along and I thank God every day for helping me!!!

Sorry to hear you have lost your job. My DH got laid off 2 months ago and it is dry as the dessert here. A big company locally, National Semiconductor, just laid off 25% of the work force. That doesn't bode well for him to find something else. We are still waiting for that window to open. Good luck to you.

    Hi silver2,

It's an awful feeling to be laid off, & worse in such a poor economy. Start looking & check out new/different positions. We are rooting for you.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I haven't been affected by a job loss yet but I have many times in the past. It is very discouraging to lose your job. Keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to try something different. That's what I did and I love my job so it can happen for you. When I lost my job I decided to take a few classes at the local community college. Even if you just take a class for some type of hobby, it can be rewarding while you are waiting for that next job.

On another note, my DH was out of town for work and stayed at a motel (near Milwaukee) and he talked to a man who was in sales (also staying at this motel). He said that before Christmas and until a couple of weeks ago, his sales were almost nothing but he noticed in the past couple of weeks, his sales were really picking up. He sells something to manufacturing firms. While I know that this is only one person, I think this is really encouraging. After all, he is in sales. Companies don't just buy something without having a plan. Hopefully, we'll notice others saying that.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear that. It just stinks. I hope that you find work, and find strength while you're looking.

I too am sorry for all those who are facing lay offs. Here we have the opposite problem. Cannot get enough people--but most jobs are in fast food--grocery stores--and even dept stores. In fact we are losing one of the big telemarketer because they cannot get enough employees. This is not cold turkey calling, but dealing with reservations for airlines. Over 200 people are being laid off, and they need about 400 to keep going so they are condensing two places, closing the one in Minot and enlarging the place in Bismarck ND.
Our oil fields are picking up also and houses are at a premium with very few rentals.
    good news---temps finally above 0

Hi Silver - Sending warm thoughts. I just came out of this. It was only three months but I ran myself ragged trying to find a job. Most people I know weren't doing that. I've recently realized that I probably would have had a job sooner had I not been so keyed up about it. I was scared to death because it was just me, and for the first time in my life, I didn't have a Plan B, and knew I should have. But life had been finally settling for me and I began to concentrate on settling in. I say all of this to say, take it easy, don't let the fear get to you. It can affect your health and your mood - even to others. I pray that something good will come out of this for you - and most definitely a new job soon. Much of the layoff stuff has been caused by the economy, but also because of the economy, there is a lot of help out there. Find out now about your options so that you will be able to take advantage of them when you need them. I was so tense by the time I could get help, I didn't feel like doing anything - paralyzed, I guess.

It will be OK, trust me on that one. There really are rainbows out there. Now that there is more positive talk about the economy, it looks like things will loosen up a bit. Hopefully you will be able to find something new soon.

    Take care of yourself.

    I'm so sorry, Silver.

Our company has been laying off for a couple of weeks now, different departments each day. My group did theirs today and I was fortunate in keeping my job but we did lose five others. It's so hard to go through, whichever end of the deal you're on. It's particularly difficult when your company has had enough reductions that all the 'slackers' are long gone, and now the people going are good, strong workers that any company would be thrilled to have.

I hope you can take a little time for yourself before you have to go job hunting.
