Comments (7)It worked! He has a hard time, getting bogged down in one thing that was bad rather than all the other fantastic stuff, and so, I worried he wouldn't have an enjoyable day. He said he had a great day! And loved dinner with his girlfriend. Thank you so much. He's had a hard week this last week and deserved a good birthday. He found the flute too. :) Thank you for all your kind wishes and good thoughts....See MoreHi guys!!1
Comments (2)Hey Gabby, Things are going o.k. I have been busy helping get things done outside...still have so much to do....haven't been on much...I hit the bed early with all of this work and fresh air...LOL...Thur. it was beautiful...no wind,warm...Mom got to sit and swing for a long time...Dad was down in the garden and I repoted plants and potted hanging baskets...Dad's green house is finally looking empty. Dad has planted his garden...can't believe how he pushes...has a hard time walking and is in pain but he just keeps on...said if he stopped it would get him down...makes my heart break to see be in such pain...working outside and with his plants and garden is his only joy and it keeps his mind busy. Everything is blooming and I love being outside and the time I have with Mom and Dad....Mom is just doing o.k....we haven't had another all nighter...her eating is good...have times when she will cough and have to stop...she is so wonderful...so good...never a minutes trouble....my DS came last Monday for awhile....been 2 weeks...think she feels like with me not working that she doesn't need to come....oh well...her loss...she does call..and when I tell her Mom is having a bad day..she will say...that's the way it is with alz. and then change the subject...doesn't have a clue...never will...I have just given up on her getting it...LOL...just enjoy each day with Mom and Dad and if she wants to be apart of their life it is up to her...not getting any comment from me!!! Sorry...just had to vent...same old story....glad to hear that things are going o.k. with you all. Are you getting outside and working in your yard?? So much to do...right...mowed the yard today and it looks so green and pretty. Take care and I will try to stay up and post more often...God Bless, Nora...See MoreDiet Pals - 29 Mar - 5 Apr - Pull Up Yer Socks Week!
Comments (17)Good Morning and APRIL FOOLS DAY TODAY!!! Soups I like to make: Yellow Split Pea & Lentil or Carrot, Onion & Zucchini Basically I take the largest cooking pot I have and the heaviest...for the pea/lentil soup, throw in about a cup of split peas, 1/2 cup lentils, chopped up onion, bay leaf and gently simmer for half an hour, add more water if needed and as many chicken broths cubes as I fancy. Let sit for an hour, boil again for another half hour, let sit and do this on and off a few times and then let it sit to cool - the sitting inbetween lets the peas swell and soften more. I figure for WW about 3.5 for a large bowl. My other soup is fast, easy and 0 WW points. I mince an onion, shred the zucchini and carrot, throw in a pot, throw in water and a couple of chicken broth cubes and simmer gently for 20 minutes. You can add milk to this just before serving but then you have to adjust the point value. I prefer not to and just enjoy the flavours. I also enjoy adding 1 point by adding a teaspoon of low fat margarine to my bowl (great flavour boost). Those are my favourite home made soups. I do the pea soup on the weekends and alternate what soup I make so I don't get board. I loved stewed tomato but usually use them to make lowfat pasta sauces by mashing and gently simmering with onion, spices and throw in a beef cube and pour on my pasta followed by a LIGHT sprinkle of parmesean cheese (low fat if I can find it). I hope everyone is going to have a fabulous day today! Alice, really, really happy to see you posting and getting on so well with all of this. Its really not bad at all...if you enjoy cooking then it's like exploring your cooking/foods all over again and an opportunity to get creative. I too love steamed veggies and I agree that they really punch the flavour up! Cheers! Let's make today count! McPeg...See MorePlease help - Mother of 13yr old boy
Comments (7)Kay.... Going through the teen years can be like the terrible two's but with a much larger child! It can last for years. Don't get discouraged. I have a DS16 and just trying to have, what I consider, a normal conversation with him can sometimes make me want to stick hot pokers in my eyes....or his. It might be a good idea to talk with him at a time that is calm and remind him what the rules are. I have tried to lay down some sentences that I can say to DS16 during a discussion or disagreement that can remind him of the rules....Such as...."Remember who you are speaking to."...."You need to lower your voice."....."Your tone of voice sounds disrespectful to me." and so on. Sometimes he doesn't even know that he is loud or that I think that the way he is saying something in bothering me. All of that being said....do what you can to rule out the things that we all fear as parents of teens....alcohol or drug use, inappropriate internet use, depression, becoming sexually active. I'm sure I have left things out but you get the message. This day and age is tough. I feel for these kids. All the more reason to not let go of your house rules when it comes to respect and safety for the teens. Discussing with him some changes that he might like as he matures is an option. Stress the "As he matures" part. He needs to learn to handle his anger, talk about his feelings and still follow the rules. Each one comes to a calmer place at a different time. Some take a long time. The hard knocks of life can be the only teachers for some kids. Parents lose IQ points big time when their kids hit their teens. I wouldn't rule out getting him into see a counselor if you feel his anger is beyond control. Some kids can't talk to their parents and a third party can really help. It doesn't mean that their is something wrong with him. His brain and his body are on mega drive right now. Watch how he grows in the next few years!....I have heard that every growth spurt, whether it be mental or physical is preceded by an emotional time of turmoil. I think that is true when a child is entering into the just beginning to walk months and the teen years. Just fasten your seat belt. The ride will be bumpy at times. It is a good thing that God gives us these kids as sweet little babies. If we got them as teenagers they would likely mysteriously disappear...or we would. I remember thinking, when my DD20 was a teen and she would be mouthing off to me...."You know child, you are standing way to close with your back to those stairs to be talking to me like that."...Of course I would never push her but a bit of a sense of humor helps!!!...See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
