corner sink - right angle with 2 bowls

Hi. I am planning the layout for my recently demo-ed kitchen. I have a beautiful corner window which is calling for a sink. I don't really care for the corner sink in the traditional sense, where you get a triangle jutting out into the space. I have seen an undermount corner sink by Elkay with two bowls. It sits in a corner cabinet with a right angle, where one sink faces one wall and the other sink faces the other wall. THe faucet is in the middle, serving both bowls. I wonder if anyone has any experience with a sink design like this? Pros? Cons? I have enough room for another base cabinet between the sink and the dishwasher to avoid the person at the sink being pinned in by the open dishwasher.

I was considering using a corner sink like this, and I opted against it because I have young kids. I like it when they "help" me do the dishes, and they stand on a stool next to me and play with the water in the sink. A corner sink like this would make it impossible as there really is no room for more than one person at a time at the sink.

So this might not apply to you, but those are my two cents... Good luck with your decision.

The other problem with those batwing sinks is that you get drips on the counter when swinging the faucet between the bowls. I don't know anyone who has one that style who really likes it.

I have the same set up you do, and previously had 2 equal size ... I was also unclear if there was a preferred way, but actually noticed that we used to use the left sink to wash, and right sink to drain... so I got the larger one on the left side- smaller and shallower one on the right side and we are happy. I don't think you can really go wrong. If you are used to doing the opposite from us, then by all means get the larger on the right. but mostly, it will all work.

Actually, there are many design principles which prefer odd numbers. Three is fine! I'm not big on soap dispensers. I hardly ever used mine in the old kitchen and didn't put one in the new (I like the bottle), but I think in the middle would both look funny and be really inconvenient. It should look fine paired with one of the faucets. Ideally, for looks, I'd like to see it with the smaller faucet. Put the larger faucet on the center line (the diagonal from the opposite corner like Buehl's). Pair the other two, and have them equidistance from the center line on their corner. And I'd put the soap in front of (which is also on the outside of) the faucet it's with to make a low, medium, high progression. It would look fine paired similarly with the bigger faucet if that's a lot more convenient. You just wouldn't get the nice rising levels. The tension from low across to medium and back over for high might actually be more interesting to look at, in the end. Not to worry. Just make sure the controller of the faucet isn't too close to the soap so that it isn't a pain to use. You could also, if the plumbing allowed, put the big faucet in the forward position and pair it with the subsidiary faucet and just put the soap on the other side. That might look really cool, though it might not be very convenient.

I have the 1 ½ and I love it. The large side fits all of my biggest sheet pans, roasting pans, etc. I've never not had anything fit in the large side. I like to be able to have dirty dishes in one side and have a separate, clean side to use for other things (draining pasta, washing fruits and vegetables, discarding food scraps down the disposal, etc). I have also been using a nifty roll up drying rack (as suggested by romy!) which lays across the large bowl so as to not take up any counter space, gives me access to the large bowl underneath since it only goes halfway across, leaves me the small sink for other tasks, AND rolls up and stores neatly under the sink when not in use! (photo from Bed, Bath, & Beyond...not my sink)

Do you have a disposal? If so which side would you utilize it in? I had a SS sink that was set up like this and I hated it. The large side was fine but the small was useless. It splashed water everywhere and the disposal was on that side. So dumping large pans of water - spaghetti, corn on the cob or what have you it could not handle it. It does appear that the smaller side is the same depth as the larger which will help with splash (mine was more shallow - even more absurd). It really just wasn't a versatile or useful basin at that size. I have the blanco precis low divide (due to 33" sink base). I like it well enough but had my sink base been 36" I'd have gone with the 36" super single without batting an eye. You might want to check that one. It's made for draining and I think it's laid out more usefully than the 1 1/2. It's a low divide so you can still fit most things in it flat but if they are really large the angle is not as harsh. I do stand things up to dry in it on occasion and it works perfectly for that. I would look at what you hope to do with that side and then what you normally do most of the time and then go from there. I love my blanco sink - it is so easy to care for - no scratching, it's quiet. Love it. edit: Oh I want to add - if you can go look at one in person. That will probably tell you all you need to know. It's so hard looking on line. edit #2: (lol) My only sink is also in the island.

I was at a store that had one setup and I practiced as if I were using it at my home. I hated it. The space to stand in was waaaay too confining and I felt like I wasted soo much motion using both bowl. I also could see the mess my family would make using it as I really did not visualize them making sure to keep the faucet over a bowl. I am getting a diagonal corner sink base and a double bowl 1 3/4 sink. When you are the primary dish washer and are used to doing things a certain way, I don't think I should have to change!

A corner sink has certain advantages. But I think that with the corner sink arrangement as you've described it, with a batwing sink, you will be missing out on those very advantages. I am linking a thread that describes what's wonderful about a corner sink (and a couple of cons as well), with a bunch of photos too. I particularly like Jayjay_teacher's farm sink in the corner location, since a farm sink is more ergonomic for your back, but any other sink style is wonderful too, except for the batwing!

We currently have one corner sink and are going to have two in our remodeled kitchen, so I've been doing lots of corner sink research. I came across this picture - it seems to me to be a more practical version of the batwing sink. I think I Googled corner sink and then clicked on the images option and found it there. I haven't used it, and I don't know anyone who has one, so I can't offer any thoughts based on experience.
