I have not, but I already have plans to see a famous psychic/medium this summer. I am really looking forward to it.

I have gone a few times with other friends, for entertainment. I don't really believe in it, but I think it's harmless if you treat it as entertainment. I believe those people generally are intuitive people who practice learning how to read people even better. My DH even took a psychology course that explained the "nuts and bolts" of how they do this.

I think your friend should back off. I have a friend who goes all the time, and I would never dampen her enthusiasm about it, because she enjoys it and doesn't make any life decisions around the information she gets. If she asked me, I would diplomatically tell her my thoughts on it, but I respect her enough to let her make her decisions. When I used to go with my friends, we always had a giggle, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I went to a psychic healer in Prescott, AZ.....was a very interesting experience and the woman was amazing.
I also visited a "fortune teller" in Mountain View, Arkansas and she was spot on about many things. I was just passing through.

I believe - I went to a psychic a few years ago who was talking about chest pain "I see a woman holding their chest - someone close to you"

I fell into the side of my tub about 3 months earlier & really brusied my left breast - I assumed it was me! The psychic said no, not you someone close to you. About 2 yrs later my Mom had a heart attack and she said that her knees buckled and she fell to the floor holding her chest. No indication of heart problems for her before that at all. Until they ran tests and confirmed it no one knew she had a heart attack at all.

I thought about what the psychic told me, and although I couldn't definitely connect it at the time, once I thought about it it fit. Granted, that may be kind of general or ethereal - other things that were shared - about my father and grandparents - was defintely accurate. They don't work with a calendar ot a day planner - they channel what comes to them in the best way they can. I have found it very comforting and affirming.

28 years ago my husband and I were at a taping of a local talk show in SF where psychic Sylvia Brown was guest. During a commercial break, she walked over to my husband and I and started telling him that he will soon be getting a new job and even described what his office would look like and where it was located. We did not ask her anything. She then began to tell me that I need to let go of some family issues which she went into detail about. They were accurate. 6 months later my husband lost his job, but within 2 days found another. The office building was exactly as she described it, as was his office and the location.

During that same taping, she told our friend who was the director of the show that he should not ignore the intestinal problem that he was having and get to the doctor ASAP. He said he wasn't having any problems. He died of colon cancer shortly after that.

When I was 16 my present from my mother was a visit with a medium that she had heard about that only did people by referral. She worked out of her home on Mulholland Dr. in CA. She told me lots of interesting things, some of which I still remember, some I'm sure I've forgotten. But it was this "story" that got me. She told me that there was a spirt/aura/guide that was around me. She said he looked just like me and asked if I had a brother or twin that had died. I did not. She was unfazed and insisted that he looked so much like me he could be my twin and that my mother had either miscarried or had an abortion. My mother had a very hard time becoming pregnant with me so I thought that highly unlikely. Plus abortions were illegal and knowing my mother I knew that was not something she would ever do. She said he would stay with me most of my life watching out for me like a guardian angel, and when I no longer needed him he would go home to my mother. She said he had never been given a name and wanted one.

When the session was done I went outside got in the car with my mom, who had been waiting for me, and we started home. I left that session sure this woman was nuts. Anyway, my mom and I were driving home and I'm telling her what the medium said and when I got to the part about this spirt twin my mom swerved over to the side of the road and hit the brakes. My mom sat there with her mouth hanging open. Turned out it was true. Shortly after I was born my mom became pregnant. My dad worked for an ambulance company and with his contacts found a doctor that would do the abortion on the sly. According to my mom, NO ONE knew except her, my father and the doctor. I named my brother David Thomas. It means Beloved Twin.

I've had several phone sessions with a woman who lives out of state. She was recommended by my grief counselor. She doesn't call herself a psychic. but rather an astrologer and numerologist. But sometimes she can be a gifted psychic and medium, and her gifts certainly worked for me!

I also had one in-person session with a local psyhic who is not a medium. That was a completely different experience--sitting there while she chain-smoked--but she said a few of the same things as the other woman. She also said some things that weren't true/didn't come true.

Lydia, I hope you'll tell us about your experience. I myself would be more inclined to distrust a famous psychic. They have so many ways of gleaning information about their subjects, and then feeding it back to them, or changing information depending on the subject's reaction. I saw this technique in action when a psychic gave a talk at a university. I'm guessing even on-the-level psychics are guilty of this sometimes.

Heck no! I don't believe but I have no doubt some of them will get some things right at one time or another...

Lydia, I hope you'll tell us about your experience I certainly will... positive or negative. I'm trying not to share much on the internet due to claims that the 'famous psychics' have people do research beforehand. I don't want to think ... "wow, I just posted about that on the Kitchen Table" .. lol I'll be with a large group... so it'll be amazing if I get a reading at all. I'm optimistic though. :-)

Lydia, here's what I've heard about group situations: Some psychics will put the group in a room beforehand and leave them there for a while. The room is tapped, so that the psychic can pick up the conversation in the room--which usually contains a lot of useful information about why the people are there, and what they hope to learn. The smart group keeps its mouth shut. :-)

Some years ago, shortly after moving to a new location, I got my phone installed. I put in an answering machine with a more or less generic recording: " You've reached Dorie at xxx-xxxx. Please leave your number and a brief message and I'll eventually get back to you. Maybe".

ANYhow, I began getting messages on my answering machine from a wide assortment of people who thought they were leaving their very important concerns with a Mrs. Somebody or another, who obviously had a busy psychic advice business...but had ditched town some weeks or months previously. Her phone number was recycled over to me.

You would NOT believe the stuff that people were willing to tell to an answering machine. To someone they knew was not Mrs. Whatever. Urgent messages pleading for advice. Of course, I picked up on several of those calls, too. More often than not, the caller was distressed that their real psychic had moved away...and some of them were downright angry! At me!

It was all pretty entertaining for quite some time, I'll tell you that.
