how to add easy closure to completed kitchen?

We have easy closure draws and doors on everything but my garbage pull out. My GC said he couldn't put them there. He did forget to put them on the doors but added them when I noticed. We have a top mounted, double pull out, garbage pail. Is this true. If it can be done how? I thought I read on here it can and how, but couldn't find it. I thought it said you need to change the glides. Is it difficult and if it can get done where can you buy the need parts? I don't want to damage the cabinet either if it leaves holes by changing it.

adding soft close to drawer runners is possible, but only to certain extents. You could add soft close to Blum's tandem series, but not their metabox. The blum mechanism won't work on Accuride slides and on and on. If you have a cabinet that has a drawer that just holds a generic waste can things are promising. Sounds like you have an all in one made by a hardware manuf.

Some trash can hardware has soft close but many do not, adding from one brand to another is impossible. Your best bet will be to find a trash can mech. you like, fits your cabinet, and already has soft close.

You really need to provide Specific details for people to help you. Cabinets, size , drawer hardware manuf., trash can mechanism manufacturer, ect....

If this helps I have merrilat cabinets and the glides look like metal. I now all my other cabinets have easy closure. The door is attached to the glides.

I am not sure what your set up is, but I would call an electrician and see if he can't run the wires to the new lights that you want. We had the same problem in the basement and they were able to do it by fishing the wire. It all depends on two things: How good is the electrician? How are the beams running.

This is my FAVORITE FAVORITE GW kitchen. It has soul and personality. I look at your pictures and just want to wander in there and linger, feeling the coziness and healing properties of that welcoming and nurturing space. It feels like a li'l ol' soft grandma with arms outstretched waiting to hug me. It does NOT remind me of so many cold, hard casket like fancy kitchens in the pictures. On the island, how about a pottery berry bowl, in whatever accent color you prefer. Lots of colors look pretty next to marble. My berry bowl is dusty blue. I found it on Etsy. You could have a nice green to compliment your backsplash, or choose a color nearby on the color wheel such as blue or yellow as an accent, or go bold with orange or red. Or a large Italian platter that looks beautiful empty and that you sometimes use for serving at the table. A combo of blue, white, yellow and orange painted platters look really pretty on marble. I found a pretty one on sale at Sur La Table. By the cooktop or stove, how about some old blue/green Ball jars, or other pretty glass jars that you like, with popcorn kernels, steel cut oats, whole almonds, wild rice, or other grains and nuts you use frequently. Again these items are pretty but also very functional. I picked my old jars up at antique shops one at a time. If you want cooking tools at hand, a pretty wooden or stoneware crock. Sur La Table has some nice Le Crueset ones and also some pretty wooden ones. Or you can pick one up if you are antiquing or use an old fashined teapot or pottery water jug. But if having those tools out would seem cluttery, skip that and keep them in the drawer nearby. On the stove, a beautiful tea kettle or stove-top espresso maker if you use one frequently. Also nice looking salt and pepper grinders, and perhaps 2 pretty containers with olive oil and veggie oil if you cook daily and want these items at hand. If the items are pretty and functional I think you will enjoy seeing them. I have a coffee maker and toaster out in addition to the pretty things I like. Can't find a way around that yet, but it's ok.

How long is the dimension from the leftmost side of dining area, to the back wall of the kitchen? Are you willing to sacrifice eat in dining area since you will having the dining room right there and the peninsula seating? Would you consider taking down the wall but doing a peninsula instead of an island? We did a peninsula and it's great! What I would do: * Budget $50-60K * Resign myself to new kitchen cabinets from IKEA because your kitchen layout is honestly horrible. That cramped corner sink has GOT to go. * Fight with myself and realize that laminate is ok and will save me big bucks compared to stone countertops. * Realize I'll probably have to re-floor the kitchen assuming the tile doesn't go under my angled peninsula * Get someone to figure out if the wall the china cabinet on is load bearing. It likely isn't? But make sure!! Otherwise you'll have to add a beam (+$2k or so) * Take down the wall where the china cabinet is. * Replace the china cabinet storage with a wall of 12-18" deep cabinets on the left side of the eat in dining area (leading to the patio doors) * Get rid of the pub table area * Do a ONE LEVEL peninsula (not two level) facing the dining room. One level means your dirty dishes are more visible, but you get a nice huge island-like flat space for working. OR (less plumbing and electrical involved but bigger work triangle and less open feel - but probably better layout overall)

really need to know the maker of the drawer slides and or the manuf of the trash can mechanism. They are probably not the same.

My previous advice is still applicable: -

Your best bet will be to find a trash can mech. you like, fits your cabinet, and already has soft close.

Astridh, I find what you wrote insluting. I've turned to this stite for advice and suggestions. I also love to see the many remodels and always look to better my space. I now I ran across this topic once before but I don't know how it was worded. I wonder if anyone else out there remembers this or knows an answer. I do love how my kitchen came out but don't mind making it even better if possible.

rtmom - I have Merillat too (2 yrs old) so we probably have the same thing. Look on the underside of your (white?) trash can. I think you'll find it says Rev A Shelf. I have Blum Tandem Plus (not Blumotion) glides on my drawers but not on my recycle center. I don't think Rev A shelf sells soft-close glides for the hanging double basket pullout. A good carpenter might be able to find a glide that will work w/o giving up your drop-in top attached to the door but they will have to be sidemount glides. Here's the Blum website if you want to look - best prices on drawer glides I found was A&H Turf. Good luck.

rtmom: I think astridh was making a pun on the issue of "closure" - Your title to this thread (how to get "easy closure to completed kitchen") could be interpreted as if you were seeking "emotional closure" (as opposed to soft-close glides) on your finished kitchen remodel, i.e. you're all done but still can't help feeding your TKO gardenweb addiction. I'm sure that's all she meant.

I thought so too, Astridh. The only way to get closure is to move, but that's really not easy.

sorry for the misunderstanding. I had some problems w/ my contractor and i had to justify my reasons to him and I just became defensinve.
