You know of course, that the yellow wall paint is reflecting more yellow onto the cabinets, so if you end up thinking they're too yellow down the road, painting the walls should 'fix' it.
As if it needed fixing! I think it's beautiful --

casey3: You might also post this on the Home Decorating board. The folks on that board love discussing and advising on colors and such.

The backsplash tiles are absolutely gorgeous. I just love them! Very classy. And your kitchen is so cute - the archway is really neat.

Have you considered painting the walls a bolder or deeper color? Something that will provide a greater contrast against the cabinets?

hmmm...interested what you say about the paint sweeby, that's what I was wondering. It's only the first coat on now, so I could have them change it (although a pain). But maybe I'm just second guessing myself? Any input on another color? I was afraid to go green, or anything dark b/c I want the room to look light.

Keep in mind that the black granite will change *everything*. having that separator as well as the dark back splash will add an entirely different balance to the room.

Remember, also, that light grout will be much harder to keep clean.

I agree with pbrisjar. The large surfaces of the backsplash and counters will change everything. Not to mention when you get other things in there. If you like yello--and I understand because I love it and not just because I design rubber duckies--it will be fine. Don't agonize over the paint. Paint's the one thing you can change later if you truly decide it bugs you. It'd be a problem if the cabinets melted into the walls, but they don't. It's lovely. Please show us the pics when it's finished!

I love it and the little guy is a great "accessory" to the look. I think the yellow walls are beautiful. That's the color I was trying to get in my kitchen originally but could never get the right shade so went with a darker color called Cafe. Your wood floors are lovely also

I am really loving it! It's gonna look great when you get it all together. And yes it is usual if not normal to second guess yourself. I became a pro at that during our remodel. I am still doing it. I just read on another thread your mantra should be "It won't be perfect, but it will be great. It won't be perfect but it will be great". I think that is a wonderful affirmation.

What kind of knobs/pulls are you considering?

They look great! I think it's just the fact that they are not a stark white like your old cabs that has you thrown.

I think it looks great! It will be so airy, light and crisp when all the pieces are in. Soft yellow, white and black are a great combination. Think of paperwhite narcissus and buttercups in an onyx vase. (Or fettucine alfredo with a basil garnish on a black plate. Yummy!)

Where did you get that cute little kid statue sculpture? It's so life like. He looks like my 6'2" 16yr old did at that age. Beautiful happy looking kitchen, I wish I were you right now.

My cabinets are creamy white -- off white with a golden glaze, actually. My walls are yellow, countertops are deep denim blue . . . I absolutely adore this kitchen and everyone who has visited in the last 6 years has said what a cheerful, clean, bright, happy, etc. . . look it has. We're building again and if the cabinets were still available, I'd reproduce it inch for inch! Go for it! Whoever said paint is easy to change later was absolutely right, but I'm betting you'll love it.

I really like it. The cabinets are a really warm, lovely color. I would not second guess it at all--very inviting.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments...you've eased my mind. Our 3 year old, Max, wanted to pose for the picture (he was very excited to step foot in the "forbidden zone").

The kitchen does look really warm and happy (our goal after the stark white) and like many said, it will all come together once the granite and backsplash are in. This site has been such a resource for me -- I can't begin to thank everyone enough for your input.

One more question -- for the backsplash grout, would you do a lighter color (to tie the cabinets and tile together and lighten up the dark backsplash/granite combo was my thought) or darker?

casey3 -- I love the color of your cabinets! So beautiful. Just last week I posted about second guessing myself on everything, including the color of our cabinets (they are a bright white). I was feeling better about it until today, first when the cabinets arrived and all I could see were a sea of white boxes, and then when I saw your beautiful cabinets. Gorgeous! I'm feeling that pit in my stomach about my color choice, but I'll just have to trust that we'll get the bright we want (and need in our dark kitchen) and live vicariously through your truly lovely space. I mean truly.

And no offense to your kitchen, but Max is the best part! What a cutie-pie.

I have to second all the other compliments on the best part of your kitchen- your son! What a cutie. I have a 3 yr old son too..... what a great age!

OK- your kitchen colors are almost EXACTLY the same as mine! My cabinets are Kraftmaid with a frost glaze and my walls are SW Inviting Ivory- it's very creamy yellow. My counter tops were installed TODAY! We used mystic black Zodiaq and it looks really really great. Haven't gotten to the black splash choices yet......

Here's a pic of my kitchen before the counters and then I will try to post one after.... I have dial up though and it takes awhile to get new pics so if it's not up later tonight I will post it as soon as I can......

I think you are going to love your choices! I know I picked everything out so long ago - I laid awake in bed one night after we painted hoping the cabinets and the countertops would look OK with the wall color. I really couldn't even remember what they were like!

What is the floor???

Mine is similar too and at first I thought my cabinets were going to be too creamy - and I did also have stark white before - so this was a stretch. My walls are a bit darker golden but once that granite went in place it really made the cabinets seem a lot less yellow. I'm glad now that we didn't do bright white.

The floor is character grade hickory. Sweeby is correct- the yellow one walls really makes the cabinetry look more cream toned. In our kitchen the floor makes just adds to it. The countertops have really added a nice contrast without diminishing the warmth of the room - which is really nice right now as it's 5 degrees!!

Thanks ponydoc. That's what I thought. Glad to see it, too. It's what I want for our floor but Hubby is hesitant. We've only seen small samples up to now.

Ours came from a local sawmill.... but the ship all over the country. They do great work.

We have dogs, kids - live on a farm. We are planning on using this floor - well as a floor not as furniture. All the variations and imperfections make it easy to 'add your own' if you know what I mean.

I think it's coming together nicely! And the granite will change everything.

As for the grout: I would blend it with the tiles, so that it picks up the brown/gold of the tiles, but I think there are probably many options that would work. To get some ideas, browse through the Finished Kitchens (and the backsplash slideshow that you can find linked from the FKB) and look at how much or how little contrast the grout has and what you like.

I think once you get the tile and granite in the color will tone down. Be patient and trust your choices. It will be beautiful!

and buffetgirl - i've been loving looking at your kitchen too. so beautiful! as you see from my last post, I'm in search of ORB cup pulls and knobs.

I gave up on cup pulls and decided to do all knobs. It felt more right to us though it might not look as nice as some or as trendy. shrug. Just waiting on the install of them.

It looks beautiful, and I agree with the others that you should leave the paint and see what it looks like with counters and backsplash. My guess is that you'll be quite happy.

I believe our uppers are 42". Yes we have 9 ft ceilings. There will be a "soffit" ( can't remember what it's called) from the top of the cabinets to the ceiling then trimmed out with molding - Thus the lack of paint! MY DH was not painting anything he didn't need too! LOL I will also post post pics when it's completely done.

Casey I was going to do ORB pulls - but they wouldn't have worked on the dark peninsula... as you can see I did go with a ORB on the faucet. I also am going with ORB on the light fixture over the sink and the pendants over the peninsula. Yep- I am mixing my metals. I like to live on the edge.
