A jumbo sized cedar chest we had custom made in Ohio's Amish country. Not very exciting or clever. But it sure is handy in that spot.

We have a 100+ year old wash stand. It's a family heirloom.
At one time I painted it green. I stripped it a few years ago and stained it to match our bedroom furniture, then
I took a lot of inspiration from it, and designed two end tables to match, mimicing the cyma molding as well.
It also had several cigarette burns that I sanded out.

It's a handy piece, my pillow cases are in the drawers
and sheets and blankets on the bottom. All the hardware
is original. I gold leafed the lions head drawer pulls and door knobs.

We have a wicker & iron coffee table that I turned into a bench by putting a cushion on top. It's deeper front to back than most benches would be and our dog will occasionally use it for his 'sleeping platform'. More often though, it's just his first step into our bed! The lower shelf used to hold many of my decorating books - easy to grab one to flip through at bedtime. I've moved the books to my office and the lower shelf is currently empty.

DH& I made this bench, they are quite easy to make..

I have an old trunk w/old suitcase on top.

I have no foot board. DH is too tall, doesn't want his feet up against anything. I don't have room for anything not the bed at the foot. It is the walk way around my bed between my bed and my vanity. Your room is breathtaking!

I'm curious to see photos too. I have been on the hunt for something for my MBR. I might do two small/yet comfy sitting chairs or a small settee/couch. Functionally, we need something like this.

Thanks for the photos, keep them coming! I too have a pet (English Pointer) who sits at the end of our bed. Maybe if I do an upholstered bench she'll move there!

I've always loved the look of a loveseat but we don't have the depth.

DH and I made a bench for the foot of our bed, using two ends tables that we no longer needed. We cut them down about 3" shorter and DH stood them side-by-side and attached the two tops together and added a shelf between them for added support. I sanded them down and painted them black to match our bedroom furniture. Then I added a cushion to the top and spray painted some wicker baskets a metallic bronze color to put under the bench in the cubbies. We're loving it!

Here's how the end tables looked after DH attached them and added the middle shelf section:

And, here's how it looked after I painted it. I found I didn't like the curvey country style look of it, so DH added a straight board to the top to give it a "cleaner" look:

I have 2 bedside tables pushed together with a cushion on top, made out of the same fabric as 2 of my throw pillows.

Many of these ideas could be used else where in our homes - such as a mud room or foyer.

So many great ideas! I'm still trying a few options and will post back when I make my decision!

Sorry, I don't have a photo. Our bedroom is pretty small, and we have small closets. When my grandmother passed away, I inherited an old cedar chest. It's a little crowded, but it's been at the end of our bed for many years. It's nice to have a place to sit and put your socks on, and also to put the extra pillows off the bed at night. My mother had an old school bench at the end of her bed and it looked great with her period decor.

Just wanted to add that, especially for those of us who aren't seamstresses, this is a great time of year to find bench cushions in the lawn and garden section of home improvement stores. They come in various sizes you can recover (no sew) with your own fabric, or you may get lucky and find one in a fabric pattern that works for your decor. I actually found some at wally world that were 4" thick and at a great price.

I like the look of a bench at the end of the bed, but since I consider making the bed to be an annoyance in general, I just think having a bench there would make it even more of a pain. We don't have a footboard because DH is too tall, so making the bed is easy when you just have to throw the quilt on -- if I had to be tucking it in front of a bench, I'd probably start off my day cranky! Just me and my own issues, LOL.

We also put in a bench for the dog to jump up onto the bed. :)

For the guest room, I found this small sofa on CL for $100.

BTW - You can have a foot boards, like we do, without having a foot obstruction.

Our MBR has a cushioned bench. DS guest room has an antique leather traveling trunk. DD2 room (briefly) has a wooden bench with a vintage birdcage. DD1 guest room doesn't have anything. Room is smaller and I didn't want to cover up the pretty foot board.

aktillery, it's perfect! The open bottom keeps it from being too heavy looking.
