American Chop Suey?

sigh

So my husband was reminiscing about a childhood favorite. His mom was from Boston and used to make something called American Chop Suey. Only vaguely American & nothing like chop suey he remembers it as elbows & ground beef, with some spices thrown in. I had never heard of it. I've searched a bit & found that it's very much a Boston/New England thing. But while similar concoctions may be had by other names in other areas the American Chop Suey label is unique to that part of New England.

Anybody ever heard of it? Anybody got a recipe that's palatable? Because I suspect that he's going to want to make this for dinner one night.
