I agree. We put everything on ours, so it's several thousand dollars a month and we pay off every penny of it. We're not willing to pay any interest on a credit card. I get those calls, too. I also get the e-mail about paying off my mortgage and we haven't had a mortgage for years.

Sounds like a marketing tool to me. I would hang up too.

This is the first scam I have gotten by phone. I'm so thrilled they have added me to their circle of friends! NOT!!

No, a bunch of card companies are raising rates, especially if they've also got divisions that are exposed in the mortgage fiasco.

Huge losses in the mortgage divisions have to be made up in other divisions.

You really have to be careful these days....We often get those "checks" in the mail, in fact, just got 1 yesterday...Just cash it and enjoy but on the back in very fine print,... By cashing, you are signing up for some sort of protection and it will cost a nice amount of money....I often wonder, how many don't read that fine print, cash the darn thing and then months down the line, wonder what that charge is for....

Latest I came across is this one.

I have a card I use for all my internet purchases that I pay off in full each month. I make this payment online.

The other day when I logged in to pay a new "option" came up.

Expedited payment - $15.00
Regular payment (may take 2 to 3 days to process) may involve late fees

You have to check one choice or the other to proceed with your payment so they've covered their butts against people saying they didn't see it.

Online payments should be instant. That is the whole general idea. I can see how your account may not be credited until the next business day but sheesh.

This is why I refuse to go paperless even if I do pay online. I want hard copies of my records.

... they'd have wanted to know your credit card No.??

By the way ... as you said, have a different card for online purchases ... and keep the credit limit **low**! And insist that it stay that way, when they want to increase it.

Check your statement every month, to make sure.

My DIL said she got two of those calls yesterday. She started asking the lady which CC card she was referring to and the lady said, well any of them. DIL kept asking her questions to find out what was going on and the lady finally hung up the phone. LOL

I don't care what my credit card rate is because I pay it off every month, like everyone should.

We get those calls and calls to consolidate our debt. So we can consolidate our mortgage with ??? We have no other debt. Oh, I do have a small car payment now after I drove my last car for over 10 years but that's it. None of these people could offer me better rates that what I'm paying on either of those debts.

Got a call at work the other day. It was a recording telling me that the warranty on my car was about to expire, but I now had the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty. If I was interested, I should press 1.

So, because I was bored and wanted to have some fun, I pressed 1.

Soon a gentleman came on the line and started right out with, "May I have the make, model, year, and license number of your vehicle?"

I replied, "Which one?"

He said, "What?"

I replied, "You said you want the make, model, year, and license number of my vehicle, and I asked you which vehicle you needed the information on."

He said, "The one that you want the extended warranty for."

I said, "Well, there's a couple thousand of them."

He said, "Whaaaat?"

I replied, "I said there's a couple of thousand vehicles."

He sputtered.

I said, "You've called the State of California. The State owns many, many vehicles. Did you want the information on all of them?"

He hung up.

It made my day go by a little faster...

I seldom get calls...maybe they just don't like having to talk on the answering machine. When I used to get calls with them 'offering' to consolidate my bills, I asked them just how they could consolidate my electric, water, telephone, etc, as those few monthly bills were all I had. They soon found out calling me was a waste of their time....lol

and what happen to snail mail? if it's a phone call, i hang up! i want it in writing! but then those can be a scam, too...

Lindsey, that was great!! I drive a 1994 pickup, & have gotten several mailings about extending the warranty....I bought it "pre-owned" so have never had a warranty. Mmm
wonder how willing they'd be to extend a non-existing coverage on a vehicle this old :-)

The cc things on my answering machine get deleted before the spiel is finished.

Great one about ne warranty and consulated bills. Gee,. if I combine my electic, propane, phone, maybe someone else with pay them.
