Comments (18)"...corner susans...don't quite look like the rest of the kitchen..." Huh???? They looked just fine in our old kitchen w/partial overlay doors. Our lazy susan was the only thing in our kitchen that looked and performed as well at demo as it did at installation 13 years earlier. I wholeheartedly recommend corner susans. As to stuff falling off, if your cabinets are made so the back and side walls closely follow the contour of the round shelves, there are no problems. However, I don't know if all cabinetmakers, especially small custom shops, are able to (or willing to) make them that way. We had that kind (curved walls) in our old kitchen w/builder-grade cabinets...and that susan was great! It held all our pots & pans, colanders, cake & pie tins, and various serving pieces. Everything was in front...you simply rotated the susan, the doors rotated inside, and you stopped where the item you wanted was...and it was right in front of you...no digging around for things. Nothing ever fell off. The hardware worked smoothly the entire 13 years. No taking up aisle space in front of the cabinet when open. No door-banging b/c the door was attached to the susan (like Marcolo's picture). Be aware that if you store smaller items on a blind corner pullout and something falls off, you will have to crawl inside to retrieve the item b/f you will be able to close it. My KD strongly discourages blind corner cabinets b/c of all the complaints she's gotten from customers who insisted on them and then later regreted them. (I thought they looked "cool" the first time I saw them and asked about them. After she showed me how they work, told me about the pitfalls, and told me about all the complaints she's gotten, we decided not to get one.) Other good uses of corners: Drawers (Plllog's kitchen) Corner sink bases (b/c under sink storage is usually poor so you combine them to give you better storage everywhere else.) Installing a 27" or 30" cabinet and turning it 90 degrees to face the back side of the corner...but this only works if the back side is open, like in a peninsula. Yes, some people love their blind corner units, but, to me, they're a "last resort" option...only if absolutely nothing else works. Comments (19)Mom, Yup, growing up with, and always having 'Susans', except the 11 years we lived here with a woefully inadequate kitchen (already I've forgotten what I used to have! :>), I just assumed I'd get two corner susans. Since I've had a few months to use this one while waiting for innards, I realize I actually have more space without the susan. Good for the 'Big' items I have in there now. Think I'll still keep the lazy susan I have in the other corner, though it really doesn't store much, but for small items, more convenient- haven't hit upon the perfect way to store things in there either- but it's a wire one, I might be happier with building super Susans with bigger diameter circles...like I have nothing better to do with my time and money... :>)...See MoreLazy Susan -inotherwords- A stupid Susan
Comments (16)We are getting a carpenter to build us Super Susans. I am sure you can find one too. We are making sure that he makes the circle as big as possible to avoid wasting space, and to avoid that black hole where things can fall off. By having your turntable on a fixed shelf, nothing can fall down below (could fall off the turntable if you spin too fast, but it's less likely). With the pole type LS, because the shelves often aren't perfectly level, ie because of weight issues they can tip, and things are more likely to fly off. Think about it, if you have a spice turntable (I have a rubbermaid plastic one that I think I paid 50 cents for at a garage sale), it lays flat on the shelf, and nothing flies off, and those are just small bottles. So, have a turntable on a solid shelf, make the circle as big as possible, and build up the sides a few inches, I think you can learn to like Susan....See MoreUnusual Lazy Susan design
Comments (30)Oh, thanks for the explanation. That makes so much sense. What a cool idea. I'm going to visit there to see what other unique ideas they have. Looking at those prices, then figuring out how many times you'll reach for storage in that corner over the years, you're talking pennies, maybe even fractions of a penny, per each time you access stuff there. YES, money will spent if they allow you to find what you need quickly and easily. Also think of the seconds you'll save each time you use them and, if time is money.....right? I guess I'm the odd one out on this one. I chose to forgo the turntables in the bottom cabinets. We have a large pantry and most of our small appliances and heavier objects will be stored there. We have two lazy susans in the upper cabinets (I had no idea our cabinet guy was installing them). I'm thinking we'll use them for spices and smaller stuff. We installed three extra long drawers in the three lower cabinet corners. Since we had pull outs and pan rack dividers installed I didn't think we needed turntables for pots and pans. I think this depends a lot on how much storage room you have and what you think you'll be trying to find a home for. For me, I'm glad we went with drawer storage...

The super susans in my lower cabinets do not fit as well as those in the uppers. There is about 1 1/2" waste space between the susans and the walls of the adjoining cabinets. I use this space to store cutting boards, cookie sheets and 2-burner stovetop grill.
Here you can see the cookie sheets and cutting boards pulled forward. Usually they sit back behind the hinges. There is no problem at all with them falling over. Notice that some are also stored UNDER the rotating susans.
These shelves are so heavy and large I cannot readjust them vertically as I can those in the uppers. But they hold a ton:
a sous vide supreme, a large mixer, a waffle maker, a food processor, a vacuum sealer, a half-gallon bottle of cooking oil, and a Nesco roaster-oven, as well as all of the cookie sheets and cutting boards you see spread out on below come to mind:
(I apologize for the "patina" on some of these. They have been heavily used for a long time.)To sum up: I do not have any other storage spaces that have been made so manageable by an innovation as the upper and lower cabinets in this corner. I strongly recommend supersusans. Everything in them is easily accessible with no squatting down or reaching far inwards.
Edited to add: As itsallaboutthefood said, I have NEVER ONCE had anything fall off a supersusan, which rests on a full-sized shelf. My old lazy susan with a center pole was a pain: things fell off and eventually the shelves collapsed downward into a pile. Hated it!!

10 years agoI have a lower SuperSusan and store lots of large vessels in it. I also have my colanders and some large pottery items that just don't fit anywhere else.
I also use the back of the SS to store thermal mugs in the corners that we don't use very often. I used to store them in the pantry or an upper shelf but needed the space - so they are hidden. I keep the items we use all of the time in their respective home but I have extras that I should just get rid of - and then I need them...On my uppers - I do have a corner cabinet. The two lower shelves are open and I can reach all items.
The 2 upper shelves are trickier - I put in an after market cheapo turntable (lazy susan but no pole) - not perfect but it works.Some day, I might build in a true SuperSusan into the 2 upper shelves.
