Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but can you please clarify the difference between a lazy susan and a super susan?

OK, I am not a carpenter, so I probably won't use the right words, but I would think you could put some type of bendable wall that curves around the susan, so nothing could fall off.

A regular Lazy Susan has a center pole that the shelves are attached to.

A Super Susan has no pole. The rotating shelves are mounted on a fixed shelf directly beneath the rotating shelf.

We had a Lazy Susan in our old kitchen for over 12 years. We kept pots & pans on it and had no problems. The wall of the cabinet for our LS actually followed the curve of the shelves....with maybe a 1/4" space b/w the shelf & wall...if even that much! Nothing was able to fall off.

Could you perhaps move something else (like pots & pans or small appliances) to the LS and put your cereal and other items elsewhere?

You're right buehl that is the difference between the two. But behind my lazy susan is about 6 inches there is even enough room to put a free standing shelf. Very annoying. I have a drawer for my pots and pans I'm thinking of putting small appliances there like a blender and hand mixer. Maybe I should look into Revashelf. Anyway, thanks for your help.

There are some other choices for you. There is Revashelf and also Knap and Vogt, Hafele, etc. You can look at the options on line. Hope that helps.

I have a corner base cab w/the wire LS (the Ikea version). I'm really happy with it b/c the old version of our kitchen had blind corner bases :-( Anyway, I read your comment that maybe you'll keep small appliances on the LS and I wanted to tell you that's what I store on mine. I don't have a problem with things falling off, maybe b/c they're heavier than something like cereal.

Maybe you could use some thin, bendy material to fasten to the edge of the Susan shelves to make a 'lip' on the shelves to keep stuff from falling off. 3-4'' high. You could cut long strips from vinyl siding... Or maybe 1/8'' Masonite though I'm not sure it will bend in tight enough radius. Might have to experiment a bit to find something that will work & look OK.

The original owners of our house put lazy susans in the blind corner cabinet up and down, indpendant of each other. They are both very sturdy, on ball bearings with a lip around the edge. I've never had a problem with them in the fifteen years I've lived here.

Is there any chance at all of taking the Stupid Susan out and retrofitting the Super Susan you wanted? Sounds like you're thinking of taking the thing out, anyway; so if it didn't work, you could just move on to Plan B.

I have a Super Susan, which you call a Stupid Susan, and it also has very little lip on it. That was part of my decision to use it for appliances, large mixing bowls, etc. rather than light weight things. My mother keeps canned goods on hers, which also seems to work pretty well because they are heavier. In that case, of coarse, don't put a stack of small tuna or light weight small cat food type can on the outside edge. Is there another cabinet you could empty out to move bulkier items to the Susan and put the boxes of food in the cabinet instead? Sounds like reorganizing just a little would be easier than tearing out the Susan.

Depending on the material the shelf is made of, I think you could add a taller lip to keep stuff on there.

I've been thinking about this, and believe you could probably have a super retro-fitted. But that isn't necessarily going to solve the problem. Stuff doesn't leave a shelf of it's own accord, either you or some other user of your kitchen is either turning the shelf so fast that things fly off, or pushing things off the back when more is added to the front.

The lack of a pole gives you more storage space, but doesn't address either of those issues.

Whatever you do, don't use any Knap & Vogt (K&V) products. My husband just spent 2 days installing 2 pantry pullouts and was livid at the lack of quality (not to mention lack of screws). The directions (even the pdf ones on their website) are just plain wrong, and the product is not as shown. (They even admitted as much to me.)

Thanks for all of your suggestions. My lazy susan is a kidney shaped and has a pole and when we turn it everything falls off even if it is turned easily. The problem I see is there is so much room around the susan I should put some metal shelfs in the back. I have 2 pullouts for my cans which I love because you can take reach it easier and take inventory easily. I guess I will have to deal with some mistakes that were made.

I am sure you can find one too. We are making sure that he makes the circle as big as possible to avoid wasting space, and to avoid that black hole where things can fall off.

By having your turntable on a fixed shelf, nothing can fall down below (could fall off the turntable if you spin too fast, but it's less likely). With the pole type LS, because the shelves often aren't perfectly level, ie because of weight issues they can tip, and things are more likely to fly off. Think about it, if you have a spice turntable (I have a rubbermaid plastic one that I think I paid 50 cents for at a garage sale), it lays flat on the shelf, and nothing flies off, and those are just small bottles.

So, have a turntable on a solid shelf, make the circle as big as possible, and build up the sides a few inches, I think you can learn to like Susan.
