I think it's great mixed with equal parts brandy!

I love "raw" eggnog but don't like the thicker pasteurized stuff. At least I think that's the difference. (?) The kind that can potentially get you sick - that's the one I like. What you buy in the carton I'm not a fan of.

I love it - the pasteurized stuff - don't make it with raw eggs anymore.... I mix the commercial stuff 50/50 with milk or else it's too sweet for me - no hooch, thank you very much. I also use it to make French Toast (egg/s and commercial eggnog and a dusting of nutmeg and cinnamon powdered sugar, instead of syrup) and I have a quick bread recipe (somewhere) using it.

It's well loved here too..I make my boys "cut" it with milk..they'd drink a whole gallon in a few days if I let them..

Love it in any way, shape or form (except for tea- my MIL got me a box last year and...well...gag). I try to keep away from it because I adore it so much & have no willpower when it comes to eggnog. With or without booze, soy, lite, pasteurized, homemade, in baked goods, in cream, in lattes...any way. I balk at the raw egg versions but only because I'm now older, wiser & more sissified.

No RAW Eggs please, nothing new, I've been that way since I childhood.

My sister's MIL makes Eggnog that's so very good & lethal, using the carton stuff. She adds a variety of BOOZES & floats whipped cream on top. OMG! I have to be steadied after a couple, and No,I don't want the recipe (yes I do!) :-)

I make a drink using equal parts eggnog (pasteurized carton is fine with me) and Vernor's Ginger Ale, then float in a shot of brandy and top with fresh grated nutmeg.
As a kid we drank it with more ginger ale, no brandy.

If you don't have Vernor's in your area, I'd substitute a specialty ginger beer and not a generic ginger ale... It's the spicy gingery taste that really balances the thick sweet eggnog.

When I serve it to people who say they're not fans of eggnog, most seem to love this approach.

I love it!...as a skinny little kid I drank an egg nog every morning....made with raw milk, raw egg, teaspoon of vanilla and a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and a dusting of nutmeg.
Now I drink the dairy stuff....our local dairy makes the best! People take it with them when they go visiting at the holidays...I took 1/2 a gallon to the Chicago kids!
I like is straight, with booze, without...with whipping cream....diluted with skim milk....and sepecially made into a bread pudding.

I love the homemade type with raw eggs and whipped cream folded in. The commercial type is a totally different thing, and no where near as good.

I can't stand eggnog, especially if it has alcohol in it.

Me no likie too!

I loved it as a kid, and as an adult liked it as a flavor for cheesecakes, cookies, etc. The last few years I've lost all interest in it. I think years of making egg nog lattes finally got to me.

I like eggnog but it's kind of like green bean casserole and chex mix, a couple of times around the holidays is enough for me.

Hate it - way too sweet. I can actually sorta stand a sip or two, but it starts cloying after that, kinda the bananas do.

How can you do this to me? I love, love, loveit. I try not to look at it this time of year, now I have to get groceries today and how do I psyche myself not to go near it? Mom used to make it at home for us, not as thick as store bought; eggs were raw going in but the milk was boiling hot,what's to worry?

I like the carton stuff. will thinks it should be consumed at this time of year and keeps pouring himself a glass. Then an hour later, I dump it down the drain. He wants to like it...:-)

I love a glass or two at Thanksgiving and the same at Christmas. I like mine with rum. If I have any leftover, I make eggnog pancakes. Very good!

I love it, and the raw eggs don't bother me at all. But last Christmas I decided to make some for my son from a different recipe, and he declared it was the best ever and demanded the recipe. Here it is:

Egg Nog, Cooked
6 eggs
1/4 cup sugar or substitute
1 litre (quart)milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Beat eggs and sugar together in a saucepan. Stir in half the milk. On low heat, cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and thinly coats a spoon. Remove from heat and mix in remaining milk and the vanilla. Cover and chill overnight. Serve eggnog with a dusting of nutmeg and cinnamon. [I added some rum essence.]

Eggnog Cookies
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 eggs
3 cups self raising flour
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift together the flour and nutmeg. Gradually stir into creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate until firm. Preheat oven to 190°C. Drop by heaped spoonfuls onto an unprepared baking tray. Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until lightly browned. Makes 2-3 dozen.

I love the real homemade stuff and I don't worry much about the raw eggs for myself and my husband.

The store-bought stuff I've tried has too much of those thickening gums so it can stay thick in the carton. They make it taste gummy gloppy to me instead of light like the real stuff. On top of that, they are usually too sweet.

I don't like Egg Nog but we had some about 15 years ago that was so delicious and the best Egg Nog I've ever tasted but it is loaded with booze.

Egg Nog (Marianne)

12 eggs, separate and beat yolks until light in color

Beat while adding to the yolks:

1 lb. confectioner's sugar

Then add while beating constantly:

1 c. blended whiskey
1/2 c. light rum
1/2 c. dark rum

Let mixture stand for 1 hour to dispel egg taste

While beating constantly ADD:

2 c. blended whiskey
1/3 c. light rum
1/3 c. dark rum
1 c. Peach Brandy
1 qt. Whipping Cream
1 qt. Half and Half

Refrigerate for 3 hours. Beat egg whites until stiff, fold in and garnish with nutmeg.

*****This is a large recipe so make sure you have enough glass containers to store it.

I hate it. Would have a difficult time choking it down. But not because of the raw eggs. That doesn't bother me. It is the milk. I don't drink milk with or without eggs and booze.

With nearly six cups of booze in that, I don't think the raw eggs would be a problem any more! That's some potent recipe there.

I'm not sure where I got this recipe. But it could be my brother's, he loves Egg Nog.

Eggnog Snickerdoodles

2 3/4c flour
1 1/2c sugar
1 c butter, softened
2 eggs
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp brandy extract
1/2 tsp rum extract
1/8 tsp nutmeg

Sugar mix:

1/4c sugar
1tsp nutmeg

Mix butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat. Add flour, cream of tartar brandy and rum extract, salt, soda and nutmeg. Mix well. Chill. Shape into 1 tsp sized balls. Roll in sugar mix.

Bake 8-10 minutes at 350° or until cookies are lightly browned.

Yields 2 dozen. Recipe easily doubles with no problem.

Truth be known, I can only handle a little of the commercial stuff and it has to be well diluted with whatever booze is on hand. Rum, brandy, whiskey. I find it too sweet and like others said, too thick. I can't deal with the idea of raw eggs to drink the homemade version. I'd rather have a hot buttered rum.

Those eggnog snickerdoodles, on the other hand, have my name all over them.

We do go through a gallon every few days. Between the kids (DS#1 used it on his Rice Krispies yesterday for breakfast instead of milk) and DH and me and my 80 yo neighbor who loves to stop in for a quick hello around 3:30 every afternoon... well yea a gallon lasts about 3 days LOLOL!

For anyone who likes spiked, try it with a splash of bourbon or Capt Morgans spiced rum.... both are a nice change from brandy.

Oh yea - and hold the nutmeg!

It seems that more people like it than not. I'm very surprised; I personally hate it, it tastes like melted fondant filling to me.

I like it with Southern Comfort. One of the few ways I like to drink booze.

As far as my eggnog booze of choice I prefer bourbon (what a shock).

This all reminds me of a woman that I used to work with, Muriel. Every year she'd make a huge batch of eggnog. It was the 4 roses bourbon recipe which I still have, somewhere, and it was ridiculously good (raw eggs). She and her sister would make gallons of it on the 22nd and store it outside, overnight, in a plastic trash can kept solely for this purpose.

One year the trash can was knocked over and the eggnog was gone. Unconscious raccoons were found not far from the scene.

Nope, don't like it. I don't mind the raw eggs, I regularly eat raw dough and batter and my eggs are always sunny side up and runny. I just don't like them sweet and I especially don't like it with booze in it, but I haven't really found any booze I especially like in any form. I'm just learning to drink wine and I'm not a very good pupil, I'm afraid. LOL

So here are the eggnog cookies. I used Terri's recipe and with apologies to her made a few changes-increased the eggnog and flour by 1/4 c and used rum extract instead of vanilla. They are wonderful! Exactly what I was looking for.

I thought Terri's recipe sounded much better then the one I posted and it had real egg nog as an ingredient.

BTW, just took the Cream Cheese Pound Cake out of the oven that is also listed on Terri's recipe site. It sounded too good not to try out.

I love it, but it doesn't love me, because of the lactose. Still I will occasionally drink it at this time of year anyway, but I add rum and Frangelico, and sometimes a bit more nutmeg.

I love eggnog and make a good boozy cooked one. Fortunately (or unfortunately, perhaps) my family doesn't care for it so I stopped making it since otherwise DH and I drink it all.

My recipe starts with 12 eggs so daisy_duckworth's recipe sounds much more manageable!

I add dark rum syrup - a sugar syrup mixed 50-50 with dark rum - and a good brandy. Then I let it sit overnight in the frig. This softens the harsh liquor taste and smooths it out.

Lightly whip 1 cp heavy cream - with daisy's recipe, it would probably be 1/2 cp - and mix into the eggnog just before serving. No extra sugar, please.

I always find the commercial stuff barely palatable. Too sweet, too artificially thickened, too weirdly yellow.

Freshly grated nutmeg, BTW, should always be used. Once I tried the Real Stuff I was never able to go back to the supermarket nutmeg. It's amazing what a difference it makes.

I have a funny story about eggnog.

My DH (then BF) and I woke up one morning, and he decided to make an omelet. No milk to be found, so he decided to make the omelet with commercial eggnog (it's got eggs in it, right?)

Worst thing ever. We always joke about meals (there have been only 3) that go straight in the trash, and this was one of them.

I've figured out through the years that I'm allergic to eggs, so no eggnog for me. Though I love eggs. I can eat small amounts of them in baked goods, and hardboiled egg whites.

I always imagine eating a western omelet with a bit of salsa on the side. It's been 10 years or more since I had eggnog or an omelet or anything of the sort.
