Just what makes cabinets 'high-end' anyway???

I remember reading, just recently, a list of cabinet manufactures that someone posted. The poster placed all the cabinet manufactures in groups. (Can't locate the posting just now.) There were high-end cabinets, medium priced cabinets, and less expensive cabinets.

Having just settled on a floor plan, I began shopping for cabinets and/or a cabinet maker. I can certainly understand the difference between a cheaply made cabinet and higher quality brands, but I'm not clear on what features distinguish the medium priced cabinets from the high-end one.

Is it materials, like all wood doors?

Is it construction, like dovetail drawers, full extension and soft close hardware?

Is it paint or stain finishes? (And how does one test for that???)

It seems that so many of the medium priced cabinets (KitchenMaid, for example) have all of the above. Yet I have read on this forum that many don't consider them in the league with the highly sought after Crown Point.

Just what are the differences???? I'm not clear on this at all.
