I have free access to Ancestry's "Library Edition" through my city's public Library. However, I believe there is a more "deluxe"(and more expensive) program offered. What more & better information does this include beyond the basic & what does this cost?

Our library also subscribes to "NewspapersArchives.com", but I've found that service quite hit & miss---& too often miss unfortunately.

I have the deluxe version and it is over 200.00 but since relatives came from many countries I feel it is worth it. Plus I get a weekly/monthly online newsletter which is very interesting and keeps me up to date, when I get time to work on the history of the family. My cousin did the entire family going back to the 1600's in England with pictures etc.

I don't think that information about the "Library Edition" is available to the general public on Ancestry.com, so I'm not sure what you're "not allowed" to access via the Library. There are now only two "membership versions" available to the general public -- the U.S. Deluxe and the World Deluxe. (There used to be "Standard" versions of both the U.S. and World memberships, that didn't provide access to everything.) As the names imply, with the U.S. Deluxe membership you can only access records from the United States. The World Deluxe membership allows access to everything - e.g., Canadian records, England and Wales records, etc., etc. As Marie said, when you have ancestors who immigrated from other countries, it can be very important to have access to those other records.

The box below shows the current pricing (yes, it says 2010, but I just took this screen shot today, and the pricing is the same). The cost of the World Deluxe membership works out to $0.82 per day. Well worth it if you are truly interested in finding out your family history.

I love genealogy. I've been doing it for about 20 years and have belonged to Ancestry for a long time...I don't even remember how many years. They have a tremendous amount of records. I find looking at family trees very helpful. I have found distant cousins have posted their research which can serve as a clue to my own so I love checking out the trees as well as other records. I also have found the member forums very helpful. Have fun! Joann

I don't mind that my volunteering ended up benefiting the original owners. FindAGrave was a terrific idea, and they implemented it well. Plus I love doing it. I started volunteering as a gravestone photographer after seeing (on another site) photos of my great-great-grandparents' graves in London. I was touched that someone had taken those photos, and decided to do what I could in my area. Rob, do you mean not many photographs have been taken in the Nashville area? YES, you should volunteer! You'll probably love doing it, just as I do.

I've been away from the Table for a while, and just now saw this message. Click on my name on this post, and send me a message through Houzz, telling me what you are looking for. I will see what I can find. Be sure to activate messaging in your profile so that I can send you replies. Or, in your message to me, give me your e-mail address and I will reply that way. As an aside, you could also check the Ellis Island Passenger Search for folks. Not everyone came through Ellis Island, but so many did... Also, be aware that often names are transcribed incorrectly; and many immigrants changed the spelling of their surnames when arriving in the States (usually by changing a vowel or dropping the final vowel if the name ended in a vowel).

Kris_zone6 -- I agree with you that Ancestry can't exist if everything were free to everyone (after all, think of the network servers and storage capacity they have to maintain [and continually increase the storage capacity as more and more databases come online]. And undoubtedly they paid to have many, many databases microfilmed and transcribed. But, more and more databases are online at Ancestry on a free-to-all basis because of the volunteer Ancestry Archives Project. It may very well be that the records you recently found on your great-grandfather were in one of the new free databases.

What I get from our library seems to be something akin to/or the Deluxe Membership as it focuses only on the US &, I think, Canada. Things like the U.S. Census through 1930, CA births from 1905, deaths from 1940---that sort of thing.

What I'm primarily interested in is a much better site for very old newspaper archives, & was wondering if Ancestry, in any of their programs, offers this?

I'm pretty sure that even with a limited membership, such as the access you have through the Library, you can still see the titles of all of the databases that Ancestry has online. I just checked, and they have 1,392 databases in the "Newspapers and Periodicals" category. This screen shot (with the titles sorted alphabetically so you'll see titles starting with "A"), shows how the numbers break down:
