Ok I bought turnip roots, now what?

So here's, where I am on this package of 2 turnip roots, one's about baseball size, the other just smaller than a softball:

"Honey, what do you think about turnips?"

"I don't."

"Um, if you were to think about them, what would your thoughts be?"

"That I hope they don't show up here."

"We may have a problem, there may be turnips here."

"That's fine as long as you don't put any on my plate."

A few minutes later...

"They're roots, not greens, did I say that?"

"Doesn't matter, I don't want any."

So, something really tasty needs to happen with these things, which I've never cooked before. No idea what the flavor of them goes with...

I was served some at Thanksgiving a few years ago, kind of looked like mashed potatoes. Is that made with a little milk and butter and mixer, just like mashed potatoes? Do you boil these things with the outer coating on or peel them first?

What about chunks of them in a mixed veg? How would you recommend doing that?

What else could I consider?

Please, I need turnip help! TIA!!
