Property foreclosures are going up and authorities are beginning to find abandoned animals in/around the property. I saw a report of a place in Oklahoma where about 20 horses were abandoned when the owners left--the authorities did not get out to inspect for 2 weeks. Some of the horses were so weak/malnourished, they had to be euthanized.

People can keep an eye out and stop some of that. One of my dogs would have been left that way had a neighbor not told my DIL, who took the dog in.

I don't know why no one wants to talk with you about this.
I think though the problem is not all that new, it may be brought more out into the public attention by the media as they discuss the problems in the housing industry.
Folks get evicted and leave pets behind, folks get arrested and it is not law enforcement's job to look after the animals, unless it's a vicious dog threatening them.
Some people spend the summer in the country, getting a cat for "the kids" and when it's time to go home, the cat gets left behind.
As long as animals are perceived as property, the property owner often feels s/he can dispose of them at will, same as the owner can discard garments, furniture or anything else once it's not "useful" any more. It is a mind-set many havein the "disposable society"
Sad, but true.

I basically posted it for informational purposes. I think we all agree it is terrible, so if the informatiuon gets someone to look to see if a person left pets and calls the animal authorities---that saves an animal, maybe.

Hi I kind of suspect rats also though some of these are over 20 years old and never had a problem . I live in the inner city so avoid most of the larger wild life . Rats love the inner city lol Do have possums ,cats ,stay dogs,squirrels and occasional stray kids but they usually go after the watergarden Also recently noticed some iguanas which are herbivoros lizards not sure of their feeding habits whatever it's getting past my neighbors big dogs . Going to put out some motion sensor lights may not help but at least they won't be dining in the dark?? lol Thanks gary

In the IE8 Browser, Look over to the left top of browser where it says Page, Safety, Tools. Yeah, tip one, get the trees off of those stakes....they're too close to the trunk. Re-site the stakes at the edge of the container and loosely tie off to a branch. Secondly, the orange looks fine. And it's blooming nicely, too. Thirdly, am I seeing correctly that the top of the root-ball is exposed? Fourth, the Meyer is most likely hungry for some nutrients. I would supplement the fertilizer for both trees. Lastly, if the potting mix holds too much moisture (hard to imagine in zone 10), that could lead to yellowing leaves. Just to keep in mind. Josh

It seems I've fixed it! At least, I've completed four loads in a row, so far, without incident...BUT in case the problem reoccurs, for others coming across this post experiencing a similar problem or just because I'd like to understand why, if someone can offer an explanation, I'd appreciate hearing it. All I did was further loosen the three belts. I suspect only one of them would have been causing the problem but I have no idea which. None are so loose they are moving on or slipping off the pulleys or anything but they seem to me to be more slack than I would think is ideal: there is now a deflection of about .5 to .75, perhaps even 1". I've read of some (mostly newer) machines that shut off the motor if it begins to encounter resistance. I believe some washing machine motors incorprate some sort of thermal protection. What in this (40+ year old) machine would cause this behavior? Why would a tight belt (sometimes) prevent a washing machine from initiating the agitate or spin cycle?

This is a good idea to be on the lookout for abandoned animals!!
This is not just something on TV. They abandon their pets like they're some kind of material property.

Pets ARE material property. I don't have a problem with that. But there are laws against animal negligence and in these cases, the owners should be found and punished.
