Property foreclosures are going up and authorities are beginning to find abandoned animals in/around the property. I saw a report of a place in Oklahoma where about 20 horses were abandoned when the owners left--the authorities did not get out to inspect for 2 weeks. Some of the horses were so weak/malnourished, they had to be euthanized.

People can keep an eye out and stop some of that. One of my dogs would have been left that way had a neighbor not told my DIL, who took the dog in.

I don't know why no one wants to talk with you about this.
I think though the problem is not all that new, it may be brought more out into the public attention by the media as they discuss the problems in the housing industry.
Folks get evicted and leave pets behind, folks get arrested and it is not law enforcement's job to look after the animals, unless it's a vicious dog threatening them.
Some people spend the summer in the country, getting a cat for "the kids" and when it's time to go home, the cat gets left behind.
As long as animals are perceived as property, the property owner often feels s/he can dispose of them at will, same as the owner can discard garments, furniture or anything else once it's not "useful" any more. It is a mind-set many havein the "disposable society"
Sad, but true.

I basically posted it for informational purposes. I think we all agree it is terrible, so if the informatiuon gets someone to look to see if a person left pets and calls the animal authorities---that saves an animal, maybe.

I was never able to catch the snails/slugs eating my hostas. Then, one night, I pulled up a concrete paver near my hostas and found 3 nasty slugs hiding underneath. So, my point is, even if you don't happen to see them when you go out hunting for them at night, be aware that they could have hiding places nearby. I removed the pavers from the area around my hostas, as well as other debris under which they could take refuge, and haven't had any more problems with them.

Yeah, tip one, get the trees off of those stakes....they're too close to the trunk. Re-site the stakes at the edge of the container and loosely tie off to a branch. Secondly, the orange looks fine. And it's blooming nicely, too. Thirdly, am I seeing correctly that the top of the root-ball is exposed? Fourth, the Meyer is most likely hungry for some nutrients. I would supplement the fertilizer for both trees. Lastly, if the potting mix holds too much moisture (hard to imagine in zone 10), that could lead to yellowing leaves. Just to keep in mind. Josh

Good to know. Also, keep at the stain. I know with ours stain often lifts after a while. It's the same with our white cork floor in the kitchen. We had a very bright orange juice spill once that didn't get noticed and sat over night. Over a month or two it faded away to nothing.

Been a while- It doesn’t happen all the time and seems to occur early afternoon. We have 2 BR’s and I can steer her to the other - she forgets it’s there - if I observe the problem. Big BR: I covered the half of the mirror nearest the door with brown wrapping paper (we have a big wide roll). Looks like hell but seems to lessen the problem. My intent was it would give her a good start going in and maybe her momentum would get her past the uncovered half. Partial success. I didn’t want to mount hardware to the wallpapered wall. Small BR: I hung a towel from the cabinet with a couple magnets, I can roll the towel up so it sits on top of the cabinet. The cabinet is mounted on the wall instead of in the wall so I don’t have to lean over so damn far to shave.

This is a good idea to be on the lookout for abandoned animals!!
This is not just something on TV. They abandon their pets like they're some kind of material property.

Pets ARE material property. I don't have a problem with that. But there are laws against animal negligence and in these cases, the owners should be found and punished.
