New nest, Heat issues, and new problem.

First off, thanks to all for the great feedback. IÂve added a second roof air spaced 2" above the box roof, added lotÂs of overhang and painted it white.

Last evening I looked out and there was a CooperÂs Hawk perched on top of the box. I watched for about ten minutes and it never moved. Finally went out and chased it away. (A few days ago I noticed three CooperÂs perched atop the roof of my house. Clearly they have their eyes on the BlueBirds).

Anything I can do?

For those who have expressed concerns about my ventilation, the Peterson design has good airflow, from the bottom of the box up through vents just below the roof.

It's forecast to hit 101 degrees tomorrow. Fortunately the female hasn't laid any eggs yet. Been watching to see if the birds accept the changes to the box. The male has entered, but the female is still cautious and as far as I can tell, hasn't entered.

Oh dear! I wish I had a solution. The only thing I can think of is to keep chasing them off whenever you see them. Maybe a good shot with a water gun will make them feel un welcome enough to move on? I hope someone else has some ideas.

Unfortunately, we don't have a choice to just stay inside many days. We both have things that need done, so we do them, regardless of weather. In my dreams, though, we lead a life of luxury and lounge in the a/c all summer. LOL Temp is now 102 and heat index is only 111. That's an improvement. I think? We just got a/c in the house last year, partway through the summer, when our then 4 year old got heat exhaustion. It's nothing but a little window unit but it helps keep it under 90 in here most days (and quadruples our electric bill!!). Before that, we just really enjoyed a breeze in the shade when we needed to cool off. LOL Now, if we could just get a/c in our van. We all dread going anywhere in the summer. Blech. Anyway, that's life. It seems most of the US just assumes that everyone has a/c in home and vehicles and have the option to just stay in and stay cool when it gets too hot. Reality is somewhat different for some people. (If any of the above sounds snarky, I sure don't mean it to be. I've been sick and the heat is making less than perky so I'm a bit... brainless at the moment and having trouble wording things. Is it winter yet??) Diane

Help-problem accessing & setting up new Chromebook due to Gmail issue.

Let's take a deep breath and start over. I think for whatever personal reasons you have you've blown this up into much more than it is. It's a "lost password for Gmail" access issue, not a Chromebook one. The Chromebook wants a Gmail address to reference your connection. Among the reasons why that's necessary is because Chromebook has limited onboard memory and MS Office-type docs - word processing, spreadsheets, notes, etc - use software from and are saved online in Google Docs, to an account tied to a Gmail account. You can work on such projects on any device, save it to your Google Docs account, and then access it from any other device, including the Chromebook. What sets your saved docs apart and limits access is that they key is your gmail account name and password. That tie-in gets set up as the Chromebook is set up. There are probably other reasons too. End your suffering by using a Gmail account you can access. Remember for this and all other accounts, use a system (whether on paper, using a password app, a text file, or whatever) that's always available to you and easily accessed so that you can find your passwords and update the list when you change one. There's no need to send Google a photo, nor to worry about consequences of a privacy invasion. I hope your other aborted efforts with Gmail accounts you've lost the password for haven't poisoned the well to prevent an easy setup of this Chromebook with a working account. If so, call Acer Tech Support to get it straightened out. Good luck.

At the wall receptacle, do you read 240 Vac across the two power pin slots, and 120 Vac between these slots and the neutral pin slot? If not, you have a wiring issue somewhere between your breaker box and the receptacle. If so, then you have a wiring problem in the plug or cable or its connection, or in the dryer guts. (While the breaker box itself is unlikely to have this type of failure, perhaps there is some mode for the breaker itself to fail in this manner.) You need to trace the 240 circuit either upstream or downstream from the receptacle to solve the mystery.

I just went over to the raptor forum. They suggest taking any feeders down. One suggested an Owl decoy. I don't know if that would scare off the Blues.

Thanks, Lisa. I just purchased an Owl decoy with a rotating bobble head. Really fierce looking with realistic glass eyes. I'll monitor to see if it scares off the BlueBirds.

Wow it seems like me and you have a lot of the same!

It has been in the 90's and hot here and now it just got more humid. I have a single dad taking care of 4 fledged babies!

I also have a cooper's hawk and my neighbor kept putting out seed. This coopers shows up every day terrorizing the birds. When I hear blue jays,black birds, killdeer, and swallows giving alarm calls I know it is around.

Just today I scared it from the other yard...guess where it headed...straight towards the babies! It landed in a tree next to them and they were totally silent...looser left with empty talons! Let us know what happens!
