Get a reputable roofing consultant to look up the shingle manufacturer's installation instructions and compare them to the job. This may be invasive.

I've done this for countertops; it's very powerful. The contractor is no longer arguing with you, they are arguing with the manufacturer.

A good consultant will cost you, but will be well worth it for the leverage he'll provide.

This is what happens when guys are paid by the square instead of the hour.

I have contacted the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation and will be having the village come out to look at the work since a permit was required to do the work.

Nobody ever inspected the work after it was done (Town inspectors or Insurance company) Which is very surprising to me.

I doubt the inspector will say there is anything wrong, they generally look for code violations not material not installed to the mfr specifications.

This is what happens when people don't care about their work. You might have a battle ahead financially, but get someone else to fix or replace the roof. The damage to your home from avoiding the inevitable will exceed any losses now. A reputable company would not allow this to happen to begin with. Where was the owner or forman then?

Shop around. Explain your problem and what you have in mind. Make clear you're not looking for free advice.

I'm positive, I watched them remove the previous shingles. The bowing is because they didn't trim it right toward the rake. There's excess shingles bundling up in that area.

My question is how would you guys go about fixing this? Would you have them redo sections that are off?

Here's where 3 slopes come together. I'm no roofing expert.. but this doesn't look right. This looks like water could get in there. This part is horrific, how would you fix this?

Another 16x zoom shot. Shingles are literally coming off. Could this even meet inspection? The town has not been out to inspect this yet..

Here's a better shot of that infamous garage picture (with a better camera this time)

Notice how at the top there's 2 exposed nails. Also notice how the 'edge' of the roof isn't trimmed straight. Notice again how the shingles are not done per GAF instructions with a starter shingle, then 2nd shingle and so on.

How would they 'fix' this?

Look at the bottom-right, it looks weird. At 3/4 of the way up you can see the overhang isn't cut straight. At the bottom right it doesn't look like they did the rake per GAF spec.

I showed a professional roofer this picture and he said they 'dutch lapped' the rake and didn't install it correctly. He indicated the finished edge should always be exposed to the exterior.

Now this is the "other" side of the "bowing" roof. This side looks better but not that great either.

And back to the infamous side. I'm demanding a redo of this slope for sure.

Here's the 'main' slope or the front of the house. I'm worried there may be issues here too.

I have a professional roofer coming over Saturday to access the repairs needed and/or if the entire roof needs to be replaced. He's worried that the roof might not even be nailed correctly.

I haven't notified my insurance about these issues yet (I'm waiting to get my report from the roofers).

I demanded a new roof be installed last Tuesday when the owner called asking if he can start repairing the roof. The owner said he would get back to me and he hasn't yet. It's been over a week.

I signed a contract with them (they are a GAF Certified installer) to do the roof and siding. I now want out of that contract. I'm not sure they followed the insurance procedures correctly because they did the roof install before my insurance had received the affidavit of work from the roofing company. You could tell the owner seemed like they may have missed a step.

I have not paid them anything yet, I still have my insurance checks.

Here's the thing though.. the company I hired is GAF certified and bonded with the state of IL. However, I did NOT know they were going to sub contract the work out to another company. I don't know if the company they sub contracted the work to is GAF Certified or even a licensed roofing company (which is required in the state of IL).

You can get a representative of the shingle manufacturer to stop and look at the job too! Since there is a warranty on the shingles. They would be the ultimate experts on installing shingles since they manufacturer them and should use their installation techniques. I would give the shingle manufacturer a call and get the local warranty rep to do a drive by and look at the installation first hand!

It does look pretty crappy.

When i had a new roof installed it leaked 4 times in 2 different areas and i had to keep calling the company back to fix it.
It was reall annoying because they gave me one of the most expensive estimates. And i had to pay our of pocket.
It was not an insurance claim.

Your problems are over.

Do not pay them anything until you are satisfied.

I'm confused you said the owner came out & then owner of roofing company in next sentence. Are you renting the house, if you are that is the owner of the house's responsibility, he would be expected to pay for the roof, not the renter. I'd insist they start over as that is a mess.

There is no fixing that hot mess. Unbelievable. Don't get sucked into a "repair" that only serves his interests.

Looks like they shingled over the old roof. Make sure to have all removed and start over with a decent company. This one doesn't have a clue. Have it redone asap before you have water damage to contend with too.

I know this is a few years ago, but what was the outcome? I just had architectural shingles installed and noticed the same wavey-ness, doesn't look right.
