Very pretty color WTs jojogirl. If it were me I'd get some sort of shade or blind for privacy otherwise you're won't have as much light come in when the curtains are open.
It's either that or extend the rods at the end as far as you can and buy another panel for each end.

Rule of thumb for curtains is two to two and half times the width of the window for an average gathered panel. You'd go more for country and less for patterned lace.

I agree to put shades under for privacy. With the long length, I would think it would be a PITA to constantly arrange them when they are open to fall just so. I can picture a tortoise bamboo shade with all the elements in your room. A quick raise and lower seems a little easier and practical. Very pretty drapes!

If it were me, I'd just leave them with the five panels. I think if you arrange the panels when open like you have the far left window in your post, the single panel looks full enough.

When closed, I think you can arrange all five panels to cover the window with a slight fullness. How often will you close them?

I think if you really don't like the look of the panels closed with only 5 panels, you could add one to each end and see how that looks. You could also extend your rod a tad past the window so that the extra panels don't cover too much window when opened - but then I guess you'll lose the extra coverage of that panel when closed! :-)

Truly, I think I would just do the five. They look nice open and closed.

We do close the curtains every night. This window faces the street, and right now we use the dining room (which is visible from the window), as our main eating area. When we finish our breakfast nook, we won't use it every day, so I can see eventually just leaving them open.

I did find some bamboo shades that are reasonable, in a 40 x 98 size, from Overstock for $33. Would be about the same cost to buy two more panels. I like the idea of the layered look, just didn't occur to me to use those in a room like this. Then I found this picture.... maybe I will try those shades and leave the drapes alone. Thoughts?

Well you know I like the idea or I wouldn't have mentioned them. I've a couple rooms in our home with the windows dressed that way. Or will be when I finish making the panels.

I think the layered look would work well here. If you add more panels your cover too much window. Be carful with the bamboo shades, the stack on some of them can get pretty thick. May push your panels out when shades are drawn up.
