Remember My Problem With My Food Processor?

My Kitchen Aid food processor has the slicing blade imbedded in the lid. It got this way when I was slicing potatoes. I wrote Kitchen Aid and told them I had tried everything except using a hammer on it. Today I got a reply and they no longer make a lid to fit my 11 cup food processor! I wrote them back and told them, so I guess I use a hammer on it?

Wouldn't you think they would make parts you could buy to fit it? They gave a long list of their food processor models I could buy with prices and the shipping for them.

I have about a dozen Pyrex bowls. Along the years, some oF the plastic lids have got lost, thrown out maybe? I contacted Pyrex and they don't sell replacement lids now, but they did in the past. They suggested I look on Ebay.

I may have to do that Jannie as I have all these slicing attachments and the little food processor you can use on it. It really isn't that old so I couldn't believe I couldn't get a replacement lid. Thanks for the suggestion.

cookie, sometimes just changing the order and how you add things can help. I would chop the dates a bit first by hand, then pulse the coconut with the nuts in the processor, then pour that mix over the dates to coat them, in a bowl and toss a bit, then into the processor again. Pulse and add everything else. I recently wanted a speedy quick last minute salsa and knew better but put a few things in without a 2 sec pre-chop. The shallot stuck to the blade, grr, and by the end of it all, way over blended. Had coarse shallots, so i added a few more cherry toms, (cut in half) and more cilantro, yada, not so speedy after all... Dates are snotty glue. I still have a ton and have been using them allot lately as a sugar replacement. Mine are still on the stems and need to be pitted so i do that chore on a pile of a dry ingredient. In my case it was some blended granola and coconut... similar recipe but mine also has some puffed rice. Not really an extra step, but chopping a bit on the granola "flour' to coat did help avoid sticky date snot.

Thanks dcarch, but I got it loose! WOOHOO! Now I can make my chick pea burgers. I thought I could still chop up the chick peas in it, but that pusher hanging down inside the bowl would have touched the blade. I tried to think of something else I could jack-hammer down into that round tube, and thought of my tart tamper. It fit perfectly! I just kept hammerin' at it and it popped out! Whew..........won't make that mistake again. Although for a second I thought the tart tamper was stuck. hahaha That pusher must be just slightly smaller at its bottom, so that it doesn't get wedged in from the top...........but use it from the bottom, and it gets stuck. Thanks for your suggestion though!

The kids and I LOVE Tuna Casserole. DH HATES it! We don't have it anymore, but now I am thinking the heck with him, I want it! LOL I make it like this. Cook a 8 oz bag of egg noodles. Drain and cool slightly. Put in casserole with 1 can tuna 1/2 cup Miracle Whip about 1 cup diced celery and 1/3 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup milk Mix all ingredients. Heat one can cream of celery soup and 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese until cheese is melted. Add to cooked noodle mixture. Salt and pepper it. Top with crushed potato chips. Bake at 425 about 20 minutes.

I do have that food processor, and I store it on a shelf in the butcher block table that I got from IKEA, which holds my electric meat slicer. I use the meat slicer a lot more than the FP, but I need the FP for when I make hummus or bean dip, which is about twice a month. I do like that the slicer blade is adjustable so that you can dial whatever thickness you want, but I still seldom use it - only when I am making huge quantities of sliced vegetables, which is almost never. (For slicing pickles, I use the meat slicer.) I use the FP to grate potatoes and onions for latkes, and I do not make those that often. For cheese grating, I prefer to use my Kitchenaid grater attachment, as it is much easier to clean, and the mixer has to live on the counter anyway. It has a place in a corner that is otherwise inconvenient, but it is perfect for the mixer and its attachments. When I puree stuff in the FP, I put plastic wrap over the top before I put the lid on, and that way the top does not get dirty. The bowls are definitely bulky to store, and I do not have excess storage in my kitchen. If I am chopping small quantites of vegetables for a deviled egg or deviled turkey, I use my Kitchenaid stick blender chopping attachment. It is the right size and will chop without pureeing. I do not put anything into the Cuisinart unless I want it pureed, as it will not do a coarse chop or even a mince. It does a great job of pureeing, however, and I need it for that. Lars

Have you thought about looking for parts on ebay or craiglist? And don't you just LOVE our throw-away society -- always changing stuff so you can't get it fixed or replaced.

I hate that we are a throw-away society. Just last year my Step-father bought a $300 Harmony all in one remote for his entertainment toys. The battery died and he went to buy a new one at Future Shop and Best Buy and they don't sell that model or battery anymore!!! What?!

I'd contact one of their authorized repair dealers. They might have one in stock that you could buy.

Just last year my Step-father bought a $300 Harmony all in one remote for his entertainment toys. The battery died and he went to buy a new one at Future Shop and Best Buy and they don't sell that model or battery anymore!!!
If you will Google Battery for xxxx (insert brand and model # in place of the xxxx) you may very well be able to find a replacement battery.

On my cell phone I did that and found a battery supplier (Ebay) that sold the batteries for just $1.
Another time I got one for a neighbor and it was just $5, probably still cheaper than buying the original equipment cell phone battery.
