I Messed Up My Food Processor!

Yesterday, I had the slicer blade in my Kitchen Aid food processor and I sliced 10 pounds of potatoes. Of course I didn't slice them all at one time. The last time, when I emptied it, the slicer blade would not come out. It had bored its way into the lid of the food processor! I had the kids try to get it out and they couldn't budge it either. I would never imagined that would happen. Looks like I will be having to replace the top or the whole cup, break the lid I have and get the slicer blade out to use! Has anyone every had that to happen?

Sue, please be careful with that slicer blade - I got a nasty cut from mine!

You might consider soaking the whole top in HOT, soapy water - perhaps it will loosen. If that doesn't work, try taking it to a hardware store and asking them to help - they are very good with helping folks in a pickle - ACE hardware is my favorite place to get things fixed, and they don't charge for services or advice!

I don't own a KA processor but I do own a KA mixer. I'd suggest finding a KA repair center. They fixed my mixer and it works like a charm. Who knows it might be warrantied.

I also think you should do your research before you purchase a kitchen item that may or may not do what you want it to. We'll be happy to help you, we LOVE to spend other people's money. (grin) As sleevendog mentioned, though, not everyone has a bunch of expendable cash for new and expensive kitchen equipment and gadgets. If you don't like to cook the best tools in the world aren't going to make you love it, I don't think, but if you might kind of like it, good tools will make a difference. I keep telling my son in law that a kitchen is like a garage, there's a big difference between a Dollar Store wrench and Snap On. Now understand, I didn't always have fancy appliances, when I started posting here more than a decade ago my most used kitchen device was a wooden spoon, Larry Englehardt (who used to post here) told me he was amazed at what I could accomplish with a wooden spoon, LOL. I didn't have even a mixer and I was chopping onions with an old hunting/skinning knife of Dad's. It can be done but it's a lot harder. I don't have a mini-processor, so I can't remark on that. I do have a big one but I don't think chopping things is a big plus with it. Everything I chop is either uneven sizes or turns to puree or something. Many things I prefer to chop by hand. Thankfully now I have some good knives. If you might like to cook and just want to try different things, we'd love to help, really we would. Just give us a chance. Between everyone here you can probably even find a lot of easier ways to accomplish things, I know I've learned a LOT. Happy Cooking (I hope). Annie

Thanks alb. You've chosen C, which is my least favorite for a few reasons, but if that's my only option left, I'd do it. I've found the "throat" is the correct term for the 3 inch space I would have left if I cut the treads down to 10 inches. Does anyone know if the throat can be cut down to 3 inches on 4 steps on a 2X12 PT wood? Also, how would B look if I placed a small one inch piece in between the treads?

I would think that if you put a LOT of weight over a shallow root system it may affect it. So try to stack them not too high - a few layers. Just a gut feeling, I have no proof of that. The other thing is oxygen - if you completely cover the soil around a plant doesn't that keep air out of the shallow soil? Although trees grow right next to pavement and in small holes in the sidewalks in cities so what do I know.

Glacier White Corian wouldn't at all be a waste and would save you money over quartz right now with the tariffs on Chinese imports if you purchased a non-American brand which is basically anything except Cambria, and Cambria itself is expensive. You can even get the Glacier White Corian in a 3/4" thickness (most other colors only come in the 1/2" thickness). You might want to read up on some of the durability issues between the two surfaces. For starters, quartz can change color with exposure to sunlight which is something you don't see with Corian, and quartz can melt at lower temperatures (150 degrees Fahrenheit) than Corian (380 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit). Corian can be resurfaced easily, while this is much harder with quartz. Corian will develop a patina of light scuffs of which you are already aware, but again these can be buffed out whereas scratches in quartz aren't as easy to make, but if they are made, they're hard to repair inconspicuously. If your base cabinets are dramatically unlevel, then you could consider placing a narrow wood trim piece underneath your new countertop to disguise the shims. You'll want the surface level within 1/8" for any countertop installation including Corian. While Corian isn't as heavy as quartz or natural stone, it can still crack when placed on an uneven base. Another option would be to have the edge mitered to hide shimming. In any case, leveling can be done from the top as the previous commenter pictured.

I second what Kay said, be careful with the blade. I got a bad cut while washing it. The blades are super sharp.

I had to replace the whole processor once because I couldn't get the blade out. The machine was probably as old as me and I was the third owner so I guess it was was just tired, lol. My new one isn't as good but I am still happy with it.

Yes, I am careful with the blade. I tried the hot water and so far that has not worked. I have probably had mine five years, I am not sure. Amber gave it to me one Christmas.

I went to that website, filled out all the info and then to answer your question they ask, how much am I willing to pay for their answer, starting with $14 and they had $24 spot checked and they wanted your charge card info. So didn't continue with that! Thanks anyway.

Try WD40. Give it a minute, then tap it lightly a couple times. If that works, be sure to wash it thoroughly before you use it again.

Oh Sue, the KA answer was simply wrong.

I'm going to the site right now to "ask a question" and then I'll roar (in a polite, dignified and southern-lady-like way LOL) at their response.

Of all the gall; they should be pleased to share their knowledge of their product we pay so much to acquire.
