When you finish your room would you mind posting photos for those us who love French Country? I really like the open mesh doors on your night stand, it's a cute piece and you can't beat that price! I also like the drapes I see behind the nightstand, can you take another picture with the drapes more visible? Where did you buy them, was that a CL score too?

Oh I'm green with envy, Teeda! I've been looking and looking on my CL for something like that for the bottom of my staircase. What search words did you use? I've tried "chest" "dresser" "antique" "small" "nightstand" "end table" and a host of other words and no go. And oh my gosh look at that price! SCORE!!!

Thanks everyone! I just love this little table. Here's a better picture (you can get a good idea of how bad the finish is, but I don't think it would be too difficult to refinish).

Budge and flyingflower, I purchased the toile drapes on Ebay. They are in my dining room. They were custom made for someone and then she moved, as I recall. They are very heavy (triple lined). I added the fringe. I got these, three custom shades and another pair of drapes over 100" long for less than $150 I think. I'm going to try sell the other drapes and shades on Ebay or Craig's List as I don't need them. (There's a picture of the shades from the seller's home below).

Oceanna, I didn't use any search terms--just looked at my local craig's list (which doesn't usually have much). It just said "table, good bones, needs work, $20". I almost didn't open it, but was so excited when I did.

Redbazel, thanks! I was recently looking at some pics of your home in one of your posts--I love what you do with "rescued" pieces! You have a lot of talent! I will definitely be keeping everyone updated when I start working on this room--because I plan to look for a lot of help!!! (This will be the biggest actual decorating project I've attempted).

I remember your wonderful drapery find from another thread. Thanks for posting again, because they are so beautiful. Your new piece is going to be gorgeous. I know squat about refinishing furniture, so, if I buy something in need of some TLC it must be easy. I would probably use some Howard's Restore-A-Finish on it and call it good. I do not mind a little problem with finish, or scratches or anything like that--not a bit of it! My budget loves old things that will enhance my rooms without having to be perfection.

teeda: I just love that piece. It has real character. I almost like it more unrefinished. About all I'd like to see is different knobs. The drapes and sweetheart chairs look as pretty as ever!

For those looking for deals on Craigslist, some common search words I use are "antique" "vintage" "mahogany" or the object I'm looking for like "table" "chair" "mirror". It continues to amazie me that some people really have no idea what they are selling--sometimes I feel like sending them an email: "You are selling a mahogany hepplewhite chair" when all they have down is "arm chairs"

Teeda, I have to ask ... what part of the country are you in to have found such a wonderful piece for such a tiny sum? Certainly not the SF Bay Area!

napagirl, I live in New England (western Massachusetts to be exact). I will admit that this style piece is unusual around these parts, which is probably why it was priced so cheaply. Someone picked it up cleaning out an estate, didn't even know that it had a french style so had no idea how to optimize it in the description. It is truly a lovely piece, even prettier than the pic shows--perfectly proportioned (the back is fully finished and beautiful in itself!).

Valinsv--I agree about the crazy way people list items. I've come to realize that most people just don't know what they have, and the real treasures are usually hidden behind listings such as "sitting chair", "wood trimmed chair", etc. Unfortunately, this means "searching" on Craig's List is often not as fruitful as just opening up any listing that looks remotely like something you could use. My local CL just had a "classic couch" that was in fact a very nice, camelback, down-filled incredible looking piece for FREE!

BTW, thanks everyone, for your nice comments. It is so much fun "collecting" things the way I do (and even more fun to be able to share it with others who appreciate it, because most of my friends and family just think I'm nuts!).
