Benjamin Moore 'AURA' paint
Comments (34)Newtoremodeling, you have to choose what fits your painting style best because painting is a lot of work. Don't need a product that adds on more stress and effort. The blotchy areas and roller marks are most typical for DIYers who struggle with Aura so you aren't alone as far as I'm concerned. Thing is there isn't much understanding out there for a DIY painter. Pro painters can't remember or can't relate very well to what it's like for someone not to be good with a brush because it comes so easily for most of them -- and really the worse off a DIYer is the better hiring a pro looks. lol! :D Paint stores are usually very unsympathetic and don't quite understand either. If they acknowledge anything deficient about the product, then they might have to do something about it. So they tend to gloss things over or go the opposite direction and over-caution so they can say I told ya so. Practice with Aura on a board first is what I've been telling my DIYers lately. Just jumping in and hitting a wall with Aura is a mistake. A little practice is needed. Also start on an inconspicuous wall that doesn't get hit with direct light. Usually, the more you paint with Aura the easier it gets. Definitely have to have some refined and/or efficient painting skills to be successful with Aura. Aura is not DIY user friendly....See MoreCan Lowe's match Benjamin Moore colors?
Comments (5)Grey Wisp is the same as RH Silver Sage, and Home Depot can not match it (they did not have it in their system, but you could probably bring in the exact formula and they could do it that way). I don't know if Lowe's can. I have it in our office and I just painted our Powder Room that color as well. I love it! It does read a bit blue or green though, depending on the light. Not as much of a true grey as Stonington Grey. I've tried a lot of the BM Grey colors. They keep some samples in stock for $3, but if they don't have that color (and they did not have Grey Wisp last time I needed it) than you buy a sample for $8....See MoreAre Ikea cabinets really cheaper than Lowes/Home Depot?
Comments (35)Thanks all - the $4500 quote from our Contractor is including cabinets plus assembly labor for doing Ikea (I asked about this directly). This is part of a huge project that involves essentially building an addition, knocking out walls, moving plumbing and electricity, and more, etc. etc. I'm not sure how the $4500 breaks down to cabinets alone vs. labor, but I don't think he is charging much for the labor portion considering all the labor they are already doing on our house on this 5+ month project. I also think at this point reading through multiple threads that it's true we might easily spend more than that $4500 going to a Lowe's or Home Depot even if cabinets come preassembled. I got hopeful for a moment while in Lowes, but I'm now skeptical. We WILL likely cost out some options when the time comes, just to be sure in the end. It's just not at all worth the headache to us to try to DIY the assembly at that time for a number of personal reasons I won't go into....See MoreBenjamin Moore’s version of accessible beige?
Comments (10)A few things: if you went to any paint store that sold Benjamin Moore and you asked them to make you something similar to Accessible Beige, they could -- A few similar colors that come up in Ben Moore's color system for accessible beige are: 1. Inner Balance (1522) 2. Stingray (1529) 3. Smokey Taupe (983) 4. Ice Formations (973) 5. Litchfield Gray (HC-173) You can try those colors first, but they vary just a little in terms of their undertones. Benjamin Moore's paints are usually recommended by contractors because of their smooth application, their dry times, and the amount of coating you need versus something from Home Depot (takes 3-4 coats and is thinner). Revere Pewter is nice, definitely on the warm side and a VERY popular home color....See Moreauntiejan
